From John Lewis to Martin Luther King we can only thank these people for stepping out of the social and cultural norm to create change with the inspirations of religion. Even with the flaws in the church today, it still will never be the same because of the actions of these men and women who decided to let religion motivate them to act. This is a piece of history that will forever affect us and hopefully inspire us to stand up for what we believe in no matter what the opposition.

First we got Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who is a preacher and one of the biggest vocal influences in the movement. Without his voice (which was a big deal when no one would speak out) the African Americans of this time may not have had the morale to keep fighting on. Then we got people like Rosa Parks who is a believer and during her famous choice to sit at the front of the bus she said “I instantly felt God give me the strength to endure whatever would happen next. God's peace flooded my soul, and my fear melted away. All people were equal in the eyes of God, and I was going to live like the free person God created me to be.” (christianity.com). and I know that these are just famous ones. But we got groups that stood up for rights like SNCC which was as Christian group, and a huge impact on the movement.
The church now a day has changed drastically from how churches functioned then. I would say there has been a big change in speech. The church has seemed to focus mainly on personal problems such as Depression, Mental Illnesses, and addiction. Which Is still very important to our current world. But some social issues it has strayed away from that are serious problems. Such as gender orientation and identity. This is a complex issue but even if Christianity disagrees it must be shown more love and caring too. Because it seems that most people in this category has strayed from the church
