Analysis of a Printed Advertisement
Introduction ============
The point of a magazine advertisement (or any advertisement) is to attract your attention and persuade you to buy their product. Another issue is that all advertisements have a target audience; this is basically a certain group of people the company is aiming for to sell their product.
This advertisement that I am analysing is about a cosmetic called Oxy Duo Pads. It is said to be able to get rid of spots because it 'clears the dead skin grease and grime out of my pores.'
Target Audience ===============
This advertisement is aimed at teenagers and from a stereotypical point of view you could say is aimed at

Also there are certain words such as 'Oxy Duo Pads' and 'Spots are wiped out.' First of all these groups of words are highlighted. This also refers to teenagers because it is them who use highlights often in school.
The picture of the Oxy Duo Pad container is there twice because it will make sure people can distinguish their product in the mists of hundreds of other cosmetics and people tend to remember a picture more than a name.
The girl also plays a large part in this advertisement. She obviously has no acne and this is a major part in the advertisement because it proves that the product works. The difference between the girl and her parents are also highly noticeable.
The parents are in the background, out of focus and only concentrating on the television. You can see that the advertisement implies that this is boring and is not the way you should be going with your life. The girl however is right at the front of the picture and is staring right at us. This catches the attention of a possible customer. She is reading a book called 'Work Your Way Around The World,' and is saying that she is 'Planning for the Future.'
By doing all this, the advertisement tries to say that this is what you should be doing and instead of being like the girl's parents whole are dull and boring you can be like the girl and
Michael Jordan has star power that bridges age, race, and socioeconomic class. Nike understands this aspect of the popular superstar and decided to give him his own clothing line named Jumpman23. It is the most popular form of sports apparel available and the white logo that adorns each article of apparel is known worldwide. Michael Jordan is arguably the most loved and respected athlete of this generation, thus the ad for this company depicted in ESPN The Magazine takes advantage of his immense popularity. In an attempt to expand the companies influence Jumpman23 uses professional baseball player Derrick Jeter to send its message and promote its apparel. In the essay “Absolution for Sale,” Charity
We live in a fast paced society that is ruled by mass media. Every day we are bombarded by images of, perfect bodies, beautiful hair, flawless skin, and ageless faces that flash at us like a slide show. These ideas and images are embedded in our minds throughout our lives. Advertisements select audience openly and subliminally, and target them with their product. They allude to the fact that in order to be like the people in this advertisement you must use their product. This is not a new approach, nor is it unique to this generation, but never has it been as widely used as it is today. There is an old saying 'a picture is worth a thousand words,' and what better way to tell someone about a product

In this essay, I will be analysing the 2008, £15 million Hovis TV advertisement. Filmed in Liverpool with a cast of over 750 extras, director Ringan Ledwidge portrays a young boy (13 year old Brian Mackie) buying a loaf of bread in 1886, which was when the first Hovis loaf of bread was sold, and then travelling with the bread tucked under him arm, through 12 decades in British History. The concept behind the advert is to show that Hovis has been around for 122 years and is a British Institution. For this reason, the advert lasts 122 seconds; each second depicting each year. The product is shown to be just as good, hence the slogan “As good today as it’s always been”.
At the end of the text is an ellipsis. This adds to the beckoning feel

The owners of OxiClean used the elements of color/lighting, focus, and character in this
Every day we walk past advertisements that are thrown at you in such abundance that you often ignore them. Only a spark catches the eye of the viewer. In that spark, they may have sold you on their product or event; others may become curious; some not intrigued at all. I found myself asking
On the contrary to attempts of making universal advertisements, some companies focus on a certain demographic when trying to sell their product. Some ads do relate to more than one person but sometimes companies choose to target specific genders and their vulnerabilities. For example, “ It can make us unsatisfied with who we are… “ (Day), introduces the fact that some people are insecure with themselves. Advertising creates a sense of need and desire in one person in order to be like the perfect image portrayed in the advertisement. Targeting both genders an ad for mascara “ If you miss her, … then you may miss her for ever”, (Day). This creates a false dilemma for the male, either you buy the product for your partner or risk losing her. On

After an extensive search of the market, an advertisement from the company Secret and the company Adiction were chosen due to their success.
