In the painting titled “Post Apocalypse” by an unknown artist it falls under a landscape painting. There is no sort of balance in this painting, all of the colors look bland and boring and have no depth to them. The only thing that remotely catches my eyes when I look at the painting is the birds flying, but that’s really it. Looking at the painting it’s hard to tell if there is water in the distance or you’re looking at the blue sky. In this painting the main emphasis that I see is the dead two dead trees painted in the front that are almost identical. Another point of emphasis I see in the painting is the birds flying into the distance. The reason they can be a point of emphasis is because they are rather large for being far away and very
Joseph Hirsch’s painting Daniel was painted in 1976-1977. In 1978 during the153rd Annual Exhibition of the National Academy of Design, it won the First Benjamin Altman (Figure) prize. It measures 38 inches by 45 inches with a five-inch gold wood frame surrounding it. The medium is oil on stretch canvas. Everything within the painting centers on the king 's turned head and Daniel 's pointing finger. According to the placard next to the painting, the artwork depicts a modern day version of the biblical story of Belshazzar’s Feast following the sacking of Jesualism from the Book of Daniel. The painting portrays a seated king, a dozing courtesan and Daniel. The three figures exist as the focal point of the composition. Hirsch applies a strong
The ‘Red landscape’ is a perfect example of these themes. It shows the landscape surrounding Mount Olga in the Northern Territory. The dead twisted tree trunks, and extremely vivid colours express a strong mood of isolation and desertion. Although the artwork is not as realistically precise as Glovers ‘Constitutional Hill at sunset’, it manages to express the true essences of the Australia desert. There is a house and washing blowing in the wind but there is no presence of human being, or anything living for that matter. This gives a bleak, depressing feeling.
The Veteran in a New Field is an oil painting by the artist Winslow Homer. This painting shows a Civil War soldier after the end of the war. The soldier in the painting has returned home and is harvesting grain on a beautiful sunny day. In my opinion I think that Kooser’s words and phrases are very symbolic.
During the final twelve months of the Civil War, over 45,000 prisoners that was part of the Union was held as prisoners at the Andersonville Prison located in the southern part of Georgia. The Union soldiers was held in poor sheltered conditions guarded by Confederate soldiers which is seen in the photo. With 45,000 prisoners, shelter was very limited. The picture is showing the endless tents that held all the prisoners. In the picture, someone can see how shelter was provided to the prisoners. The tents was basically a sheet held up by a stick structure and provided limited protection from the elements. If one looks closely to the picture, a person can see how the tents was arrange as living situations for the multiply soldiers who stayed
In this painting, two visual elements stand out over all the rest. These elements are that of color and texture. Color in art is an element that has to be phenomenal in order to get recognition and true appreciation from the viewers. In this painting, the colors are rich, vivacious and standout as dark, but bold representations of the uniqueness of it all. The use of brown and yellow and green and grey and white all come together in a harmony of color and unity. As for the texture in the painting, it is that of brisk and roughness that is nature. The sharp edges of the bucks rack and the cold, rough edges of the dead tree show
In this painting by Ross Dickinson it shows the impending fate of the rich individuals that populated the 1920s. With the mountains and smoke in the back creeping up of the green fields and houses that showed the prosperous life within it. Some areas getting hit faster than others, since not everyone during the 20s were ridiculously. Like George Wilson and Myrtle from The Great Gatsby who were still hanging on but could never afford the lavish life Gatsby possessed. Unlike them George and Lennie from Of Mice and Men were stuck in the time that was overtaken after that during the 1930s, but in the painting it would be shown as those little openings of grass that had already been overtaken by the mountains that have no homes and sign of life.
I am analyzing the form and content of a stylized painting entitled The Palisades by John William Hill. This was found in the collection section of themetmusuem.org which was painted during the pre Raphaelite movement; when artist emphasized meticulous detail in what was observed rather than imagined nature. This artwork shows the aesthetics of nature, depicting a peaceful scenery with spacious green acres during the year of the 1870s. During the late 18th centuries, natural resources weren’t highly industrialized and that in itself shows how nature was essential for all human species. I argue that this painting shows how everything in nature connects and communicates with one another.
Nell Irvin Painter’s theme of Standing at Armageddon is the study of political economy. “Political economy is the relationship between politics and money: it’s voting, and taxes and governmental policy – the nuts and bolts of who get and who pays.” Painter describes the tension between workers and wealthy business owners. Her main focus is on ordinary working people and the historical events from 1877 until 1919; by describing “what happened, what meanings people took out of what happened, and how people processed the events.”
The artwork that I did was by an artist named Sue Andrew. Sue makes paintings of beautiful Paraguayan landscapes and tropical scenes. Her artwork has won many awards and she has sold some of her artwork. Her paintings include portraits and landscapes. The painting that I remade was inspired by the trip the Sue took to Paraguay, it shows her sense of the country and how she believes that Paraguay is magical. The painting is very colorful and captures the true image of Paraguay and how beautiful the place is. I chose this painting because I thought that all of Sue’s paintings were very imaginative and creative. Sue’s paintings were very different than the other paraguayan paintings.
I was not able to attend the first friday art trail because of work. However, I did have three pieces of art that stood out to me.
The stone painting Apollo 11 is a art piece that dates back to 25,500-23,500 BCE during the Stone Age. Using what we learned from the starter kit, style and medium we can analyze how and why the art piece might have been created. You can infer that the medium was a painting. Using period style I believe the art piece may have been created to depict a certain type of animal. This painting might have been created for teaching hunters the specific animal they might or should be hunting or perhaps a animal they should avoid. The animal drawn might also represent a role in rituals or in legends told. The painting might have been created using a mix of charcoal and salvia and human fingers in order to paint the image on the stone.
The short story “The White Paint”, loyalty and betrayal are displayed to show the struggles throughout a relationship. John has always been loyal to his wife for seven years now, he presents his loyalty to her by working hard every day on the farm. “John never hired a man to help him. He wanted a mortgage-free farm; then a new house and pretty clothes for her” (3). John’s persona demonstrates how he puts others before himself for the happiness of others, he does many things for his wife, such as having a roof over their head, clothes for her to wear and soon hopefully, a new home. John risks his own life going through the snowstorm to visit his old father who lives alone, and does not take care of his own well-being. As Ann says, “I’d like you to spend a little time on yourself” (2). John spends so much time on other and the farm that he endangers himself; for instance, lack of sleep, his physical appearance and not waiting until the storm settles down to visit his father.
The painting I chose is called “Grey and Silver, Old Battersea Reach,” which was made by an artist named James Whistler, full name James Abbott McNeill Whistler. He has made many other paintings such as “Arrangement in Black and White No. 1, Portrait of the Artist’s Mother”, and “Morning Glories.” “Grey and Silver” was made in 1863, oil on canvas. The style of the artwork is realism, which means it represents a person, place, or thing. Whistler was born in 1834 and died at the age of 69 in 1903.
Deer, the deer are the central focus of this painting. They are centrally placed and proportional in size to the rest of the objects in the painting. The contrast of colors is very different in my eyes, I am not used to seeing all of the colors of the rainbow in one picture, it is just odd to me, however, in this situation, I find it very pleasing. To me, the colors are extremely dull, he used the lowest variant of the colors and placed them in a way that made them somewhat pop at your eyes. It catches your attention, in the best way possible.
When I saw the painting for the first time it grabbed my attention. At first I thought it was the beautiful colors that attracted me to the painting, but it was more. In the picture the shadowy men look scared. They looked as though they were trying to run away from something and this lake that forms into this river that is surrounded by tall grass is the way out, or at least a place to hide until the coast is clear. During that time in my life I felt
