According to Angela Duckworth, grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint. It means that you do not have to hurry up and do it to succeed you can go slow, and take years to achieve it. It matters because it does not make us feel time limited and rushed to doing it, for it is letting us take our time. This is important because it’s hard to really see a lot of growth within a time period. In the article, Carol also backs this up with evidence from a controlled experiment. The experiment was focused on the minds of seventh graders and talking to them in a certain way that influenced their mindsets. The seventh graders were split up into two groups and were to work on an eight-session workshop, however, the control group was taught about what a growth mindset is and how it can be applied into their school life. This factor leads to the control group having improved at the end of the semester. This experiment showed that just by knowing about what a growth mindset is and how it could be applied in life, people are more likely to grow more rapidly than people whose minds are fixed on having a limit to their knowledge or skills. This is important because the sooner that kids know how to make their brain think that there are endless possibilities to who they can be or what they can do, the more they are likely to excel in anything that they attempt, not only in school but in their own personal life. This will allow a person with a fixed mindset to be able to change their way of thinking and start to see more about what they can accomplish with their life.
According to Judy Willis, “When you are experiencing highly negative emotions or severe stress, incoming information is routed to a different part of your brain”. When the high-level thinking happens, the information routed is to the reactive lower brain. When that happens, the memory is affected, all active learning stops. A fourth way is recognized and valuing incremental progress boosts a person’s motivation and enables him or her to deal effectively with setbacks. According to Dweck, “people with growth mindsets, believe their abilities can be developed though dedication and hard work- brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have these qualities.” With a growth mindset, people realized by having a failure in the past don’t mean they will in the future.
Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face. However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset.
Unfortunately, students often struggle when it comes to school. While some will blame themselves or there professor for there failure, other students will embrace failure and see it as an opportunity to improve. Carol Dweck, a professor at Stanford University encourages that students adapt something called a growth mindset. Dweck defines a growth mindset as "the idea that we can grow our brain 's capacity to learn and to solve problems." In order to learn, the brain undergoes a process called neuroplasticity, where it rewires and molds itself by forming new neurological pathways each time we encounter a new experience. However, fixed mindset students believe that qualities such as intelligence are fixed traits and are inherited through genetics. While growth mindset students embrace making mistakes and look for ways to improve, fixed mindset students run away from making mistakes and care about being judged. Students should adopt a growth mindset because they will embrace their mistakes as part of a learning process, and because growth mindset students achieve more.

You can grow your brain and you can change your mindset. Some people think that you were born with a fixed set of talents and abilities that can not be changed. But, in reality, everyone and anyone can change by just doing simple things. If you have a growth mindset, you are more likely to improve and succeed then if you have a fixed mindset. Students with growth mind-sets like challenges and work hard to get better and improve their skills and knowledge. They also honed in on the skills needed to accept challenges and confront difficulty in order to better solve their problem or problems. If they make a mistake or answer a problem wrong it drives them to want to try harder and figure out and solve the problem they were faced with. This lets them academically surpass their fellow students who have a fixed mind-set because of their hard work and drive to succeed.

I learned that if we nurture a growth mind-set in our homes and at schools we will give children the “tools to thrive in their quests and to become accountable employees and citizen” (Dweck, 2007, p. 6). In the long run my goal as an educator is to prepare students to become responsible citizens and help them thrive. Carol Dweck, stated, educators could improve their students' learning if they “persistently encouraged them to think about their mental skills as malleable, rather than as properties fixed at birth” (Glenn, 2010, p.5).
By reading the book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success people are able to determine if they are fixed-mind set or growth mind set. There are many people across the world who are fixed-mind set and believe that their abilities and intelligence cannot change. They dwell on the problems at hand and fail to recognize alternative ways to solve them. This group tends to have low self-esteem so they will prove themselves to others so they can feel superior academically or skilled related. If they fail at their task, they become more concerned with other’s thoughts, which diverges them from the actual objective. On the other hand, growth mind set is completely different from fixed-mind set. Growth mind set is someone who accepts the problem and thinks of a positive or useful way to fix the issue. This person believes that their strengths and weakness can grow with time and practice. These two mind sets help scientists explain why people act differently when faced with the same difficult situation.

There are two different mindsets. There is a fixed and a growth mindsets, which affect their learning cycle. A student with a fixed mindset, believe there potential for intellectual success is by working hard. A student with a growth mindset they believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication.
What is mindset? Mindset to me means, the set of attitudes established by someone. When I hear growth mind set, it become apparent to me that growth mindset starts at a young age. I for one think that when you start learning at a young age, all the information that you take in from learning will be in your mind. When you do this you can become smarter and smarter over time. The next topic is fixed mindset. When I hear the topic fixed mindset, my mind agrees that fixed mindset is your mind is fixed. When you have a fixed mindset you will try not to learn new objects. Usually a person with a fixed mindset will not try exploring different subjects, apart than learning the same thing over and over.

Doing things along with having a growth mindset, like getting enough sleep, eating nutritional foods and exercising regularly, can also lead to an improved intelligence.
