Many Americans share their homes with animals such as dogs, cats, and fish. For the most part, the study of sociology focuses only on human interaction. Recent studies, however, have shown that animals play an important role in human interaction. The relationships humans have with animals often reflect human’s life situation. The issue of animal cruelty is a social problem because it is often associated with interpersonal violence. Understanding animal abuse can tell us much about the interactions of humans. Animal abuse is often explained from a psychological perspective. Most importantly, animal abuse should be discussed as a social problem because of the suffering and death it causes animals.
The first issue we face when discussing animal cruelty is defining what activities are considered cruel and abusive. Since animals cannot speak for themselves, humans must guess at their inner thoughts. Because of this, there are many different interpretations of cruelty. The treatment of one species in a certain context can be regarded as cruel, while in another context it can be considered completely acceptable. For example, in the United States it is generally acceptable to kill cows for food, but it is not acceptable to kill dogs for food. In another culture, the reverse might be acceptable. Different and often conflicting opinions result from the ambiguity of the definition of cruelty. For the sake of this paper, cruelty will be defined as “socially unacceptable behavior that
Children who live in homes where animal abuse is present are often abused themselves and unfortunately, sometimes carry on with the cycle of abuse later on in life. “More than 80 percent of family members being treated for child abuse also had abused animals. In one-third of the cases, a child victim continued the cycle of violence by abusing a pet (“The animal abuse home violence connection”, 2013).”
The abuse and cruelty by humans towards animals have been on the rise as producers and retailers of cosmetics and drugs rush to position their products in the global markets. Scientific tests remain a leading player in animal abuse, especially due to the controlled environment while being experimented (Norton, 157). While there are myriads of local and international rules and regulations guiding the human
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” The social issue of animal rights first arose in the 1970s; since then the animal rights movement has gained momentum and a considerable amount of followers “Animal Rights.” Organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) hold demonstrations and protests in the streets and outside businesses to denounce the maltreatment of animals. There are two sides on this issue, those who believe that the life of an animal is inferior to that of a human’s and those who deem that animals deserve to have a life free of human interruption “What Are Animal Rights.” Without animal rights, our society can be deemed unfettered by empathy and restrained by immoral values.
Animal abuse also has an impact on the abuser. Sometimes it leads to bad decisions in the future. "A number of studies show that 70% of animal abusers lead to other crimes." Acts of animal cruelty are connected to other crimes, including violence with people, property crimes, and drug or disorderly conduct offenses. Seven boys who did schools shootings that took place in 1997-2001 have done acts of animal cruelty. (Animal Cruelty and Human Violence.) Patrick Sherrill who had a part time job as a mailman for the post office in Edmond, killed 14 co-workers before he shot himself. Sherrill had a deep history of dog fighting. (Animal Abusers blog) "Police know that in homes where animal abuse is a problem, other issues are often concurrent (Animal
Why are people so mean to animals? It’s one of the hardest questions to answer. Animals all around the world are abused every day. Around 1,880 animal abuse cases, were reported in2007, just from the media (humanesociety.org). In this essay, I’m going to inform you about some examples of animal torture, laws against animal abuse, how to help stop creature cruelty, and Kat Graham, a young activist making a difference in the animal world. You can be more like Kat and help fight peacefully against animal cruelty!
Humans have always had a complicated relationship with non-human animals. This relationship has always benefitted the needs of humans, with little consideration for animals’ needs. Some animals are tortured for entertainment, some are butchered for food and others are taken from their habitat and family, and forced to be pets for humans. These are all examples of the ways humans have exploited animals for their own satisfaction. Hal Herzog’s essay “Animals Like Us” describes the complicated relationship that humans and animals have, and how difficult it is to determine what is ethical when dealing with animals. Jonathan Safran Foer makes a similar observation in his essay “The Fruits of Family Trees” of the ethical issues in the
All animals deserve to have a life filled with happiness and appropriate care, but thousands go without their basic needs for survival on a daily basis. Animal cruelty is a big issue across the world, animal cruelty doesn’t consist of just dogs and cats, and animal cruelty spreads through every species of animal across the planet. Animals have had a huge impact on human life since the beginning of
Kia Motors is a company that sells the Kia Soul, an electric car. I started noticing people driving these cars a few years ago after seeing the company’s commercial. The commercial contains dancing hamsters with fun lights, music, and colors. This attracts people and gets them thinking that if they buy this car then they will have fun too. The car also comes in different colors and is designed in a streamlined shape to give it a futuristic look. This is a great strategy not only to sell the product, but also to help the world “Go Green.” A part of the company’s philosophy is, “As considerate citizens of the world, we want to make exemplary and sustainable contributions to the environment.” Electric cars are made to help stop pollution.
“I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter… the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. “God,” I said, “this is terrible! Why don’t you do something?” God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly, I have done something,” He replied. “
Animal cruelty such as abuse and neglect are issues that not everyone pays attention to. This is because they are not informed in the right way or they do not do their research about the certain and proper care the animal need which led to different types of cruelty. People need to start understanding what animal cruelty is and what they can do to surpass the issues dealing with animal cruelty and also treating animal cruelty like they would as human cruelty. “We need, in a special way, to work twice as hard to help people understand that the animals are fellow creatures, that we must protect them and love them as we love ourselves,” as said by Cesar Chavez.
Animal testing is a cruel way of the past, now a days there are far better ways to conduct research providing far more accurate results. By raising awareness on the act of animal testing we can ultimately put a stop to the cruel treatment of animals. There is an alternate way to find safe products for human usage without testing on animals first. All around the world different species are used for research testing; dogs cats mice and other primates are the most common animals used. Animal testing has not been proven to be the most accurate by raising the awareness hopefully people will be more cautious to the products they buy thus limiting animal tested on.
In this paper, I plan to discuss the different sides of how cruelty is seen and if it should be prevented and changed. I plan to explore the ideas of what cruelty is and what counts as cruelty. I will use these ideas and beliefs to try and understand and answer these posed questions about cruelty.
Animals should not be beaten, the number of incidents reported is out of control. They need to be taken care of while they are still here. In this research paper i will be talking about the cruelty that animals have to deal with not only in the United States but also all around the world. My paper is also a little about the rights that animals have, animals have rights just like us humans do. The reason why i choose animal cruelty is simple, why danger an animal when it has done nothing to you. I don't disagree with the killing of animals for eating purposes, but just to hurt for the fun of it or because you can't control the animal? I agree that the world needs the meats that these animals have to offer, we all need it to stay strong and healthy. Shouldn't we at least take care of the animals while their living in this world? Why don't we give them the best possible care in their precious Short lifespan. Myself and millions of others believe that animals should be used for eating purposes only, many say they shouldn't even be eaten but my topic will not deal with that. There are to many incidents reported where many scientist and humans with special occupations hurt animals during experiments, I would love to see the end of monkeys, pigs and even gorillas being tested in labs. These animals were put into this world the same reason we were.
There square measure 3 major causes result in animal abuse. Firstly, it should relate to the broken childhood of abusers. in line with an editorial, a former animal abuser, who killed 3 dogs once he was young, said the roaring of dogs continually frightened him once he was still a baby. Therefore, once he grows up, he showed emotion towards dogs. a foreign psychologist unconcealed that an oversized part of animal abusers had the expertise of littered with violence in their childhood. The emotion create them become abusive to others particularly defenseless animals in their later lives.
As humankind has progressed, there has been an increase in governance and rules and regulations of everyday life. These governance and rules rise from general disgust over happenings and concepts all over the world. One such rapidly growing concept is animal cruelty.
