Cruelty to animals, also called animal abuse, animal neglect or simply animal cruelty, is both the unintentional and the intentional infliction by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal regardless of whether the act is against the law.

Animal cruelty is any mistreatment to an animal of any size or kind including wild animals. The most common acts of animal cruelty recorded by the RSPCA are as follows;

All around the world, people are abusing animals. Animal cruelty is a big deal because some people do not look at animals as being important; some people do not see a problem with hurting them. Animal cruelty can be define as being a malicious treatment that can cause undue pain or being mistreated. Seeing an animal get brutalize by some humans seems to be cruel. Getting kicked in the ribs, left for starvation and even used for entertainment seems to be heartless. Why abuse animals when they have not done anything to harm a human. If one must see what they are really doing to these animals, then animal cruelty would not be a big deal.

People shouldn’t have any rights to abuse or neglect animals and get away with it easily. Animal abuse is a big conflict because some people get away with these acts in which they don’t get punished or little punishment while the animals don’t get to live happy lives and suffer. The shocking number of animal abuse cases reported every day is nothing compared to most of those which are never reported. Cases of animal abuse are not compiled by the state or federal agencies such as violent crimes against humans. This makes it much more difficult to calculate how much it actually happens. Information available to us can help us better understand and prevent cases of abuse against animals. They're all special and talented in their own way. Animals should not be shown for games or entertainment.

Arguments can be made on whether being cruel to animals is harsh or fair but indeed my believes are that no matter who you are or what you are, no one deserves to be treated with such treatment. Unfortunately today there are many cases of animal abuse happening around the world. Animal cruelty or animal abuse can be defined as the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals for purposes other than self-defense. There are many different types of abuse such as using animals for research, using animals for entertainment purposes, abandoning animals to shelters, and animal neglect. We need to raise awareness and find a solution to these issues. Animals are suffering and we need to help them.

Cruelty to animals is not defined the same by all people. Cruelty encompasses physical and mental harm. By definition, any action that causes physical or mental harm to an animal would be considered cruel. The blanket opinion is most often unanimous, cruelty to animals must cease, there then begins the differing of opinions. The determination of what is considered acceptable treatment of animals, and what is considered cruel treatment has been dissected and divided through the years to meet the needs of different groups and cultures. For many years now the world has seen controversy over the rights of animals and if they think and feel like humans do. Many people see animals as mindless creatures or as food, while others think they have emotions and can feel pain. In other countries animal protection laws are in place that are strictly enforced and seem to work well with the system. More people today are beginning to see that animals should have rights and should be protected by laws and regulations (Animal Legal & Historical Center). Sadly there are many people residing in the United States who don’t take animal rights or protection laws seriously. These people abuse animals in many ways, including food industries that disobey the regulations set in place for the slaughter of animals used for consumption. Luckily for the animals there are people who fight for their rights and the enforcement of laws called animal rights activists.

Animal welfare is defined as the state or the condition of how an animal lives. This includes how safe the environment is, is it under distress, health concerns etc. In all, are the animals being treated humanely. Rules and regulations have been set in place to follow in terms of welfare. Treating an animal “right” seems like it would be a straight forward concept, but not everyone thinks the same way. Concerns include housing, mutilation and handling are a few of the main points that are discussed with animal welfare.
