Animal cruelty is a major problem that I believe threatens society to this day. Since the beginning of time, we have always relied on hunting down animals and plants to consume. However, as society progressed over centuries, we are faced with a large issue. The problem is obvious; animals are now being treated with disheartening cruelty. In slaughterhouses around the world, many animals face unsanitary, uncomfortable and disrespectful treatment. They are not fed well, and are kept in cramped cages with tens of hundreds of other animals of their kind. Humans are on top of the food chain, so I clearly believe it is necessary for people to keep balance between the organisms under the food chain as a form of respect for the environment. They recognize the lack of support for animals, and part of what they do is perform regular undercover investigations into various farms and slaughterhouses. According to the website, approximately 9 billion animals in farms are killed each year for human consumption; another one is the egg industry killing male chicks since they can’t produce eggs. In addition, there are 0 federal laws protecting animals on family farms. However, according to the website, a vegetarian spares approximately 31 farmed animals each year. (The Problem n.d.) According to a 2014 review sheet, they spend their money in various methods which will be guaranteed useful to the animals living in poor conditions. There are several diverse possibilities they use to help animals; from approximately a 1000 dollar donation, they use every single dollar for good reasons: $390 goes to outdated undercover investigations, $300 would be given to pivotal online research, $150 on essential educational outreach, $70 on social media outreach, $60 on correspondence to corporations, and finally $30 on legal matters. The report estimates that the lives of 8800 animals would be saved from these types of activities (Animal Charity Evaluators
Did you know around 56 billion animals are killed each year for food alone? With these staggering numbers, could they suggest that the morality of humans should not be intact. Animals are defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “any such living thing other than a human being or plant” but should animals be treated equally? Animal rights establish that animals should be entitled to the same treatment as humans (such as freedom) to prevent abuse and exploitation. The reasoning and foundation behind animal rights was spoken by philosopher Jeremy Bentham in 1789, “…the question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?” Since animals are capable of suffering, animal rights should protects animals from medical
Animal cruelty is a nationwide problem rapidly growing in today's society. They are being beaten and starved everyday and millions of helpless animals die each year because of heartless, greedy Americans. It is appalling how so many individuals eat meat or wear clothing that's covered in fur, knowing that it comes from the slaughtering of innocent creatures. As of 2017, there are more than 30 million animals killed for economic gain and food, and the numbers are constantly rising. Animal cruelty is the foundation of our society because most could not live without the things animals provide. They are used for clothing, shoes, drugs and the cosmetics you see models wearing. Not to mention the numerous of animals who get sent to the slaughter house and end up in grocery stores.
Every year about 56 billion animals in the United States are massacred by humans. These innocent animals are slaughtered for our taste enjoyment and fashion. Pigs, cows, and chickens are being treated inadequate living conditions slaughterhouses. Instead of animals, they are treated like property and objects. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals exclaims, “On today’s factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and stuffed into wire cages, metal crates, and other torturous devices. These animals will never raise their families, root around in the soil, build nests, or do anything that is natural and important to them. The employs are not responsible with the animals.” Famous brands, like Tyson spend such little money on what the animals are raised in that tons of the animals die before they make it to their slaughter day. These innocent animals do not see the sun’s warm rays and get fresh air until they’re on their way to the slaughterhouses. Animals in slaughterhouses should be treated more humanely.
The most cruel type of animal abuse is to farm animals. Did you know that chickens spend their whole lives in small cages that they can barely fit in? Or that male chick eggs are either thrown into a trash bag to suffocate and die or are chucked into high speed grinders, while still alive? Slaughter houses are where all the action happens. The chicken's legs are shackled together, their throats are cut, and they are thrown into very hot water to remove their feathers. This is unfair to farm animals. Male chickens do not get to live for one day before they are murdered.
Cruelty can mean a number different things in different situations, it could vary. But certain things are cruel no matter what the situation, no matter who the person was, or is. First of all I whole heartily believe that once a person if cruel to you, or anyone that you may be close with, you have the absolute right to completely cut them out of your life. Whether given an apology or not, it doesn't matter. Now, for me, an example of cruelty it an empty promise of providing for another person, if you promise to provide for someone (especially children or animals) and never intend to keep it, then you are basically not caring about them living anymore. That person is depending on you for their well being, someone placing that much trust in
Every single second all over the world, animal cruelty happens. I'm going to tell you how member from the famous british band, the Beatles Paul McCartney talks about this nonsense, if slaughter houses had glass walls, and how it involves other people. Just think about it, animals don't deserve this behaviour farmers do. Just imagine that poor animal who's getting abused, it's terrible. After this, I guarantee you'll feel sorry for the animals around the globe who don't deserve the actions most humans do.
Acknowledging the problems we have today is a good way to start, but let’s take it back in time to know just how it originated. To begin discussing the history of animal cruelty is to go back as far as far as the 12th century
Animal cruelty occurs all over the world, but you can step up and help stop it. “Animal cruelty is a serious problem. If you see an animal being hurt, remember that you can help speak up for that animal”(Paws). In other words, do not be a bystander when you see an animal being abused because you can speak up. “Abusers of animals are five times as likely to harm humans. Nearly half of the victims who stay in violent households do so because they are afraid for their animals. Countless more never leave the home for this very reason. Companion animals like cats and dogs may be threatened or harmed; the vulnerability of other animals like horses may also make it difficult for victims to escape in emergencies” (Animal Legal Defence Fund). There are many types of animal cruelty, but all of them might lead to the abuse of actual humans. “It is important to distinguish between the different forms of animal cruelty. While fundamentally different at the source, all forms result in the physical and/or emotional suffering of the animal victim” (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Animal cruelty will lead to harm
Each and every human around the world have always and still are mistreating animals and not giving them the respect they need. They have always been put in danger by many of us. Animals are creatures that should not be treated like trash. They are part of this world that god has brought, just like he brought us humans as well. Animals do matter as individuals, and many of us do not realize that. The death and mistreatment of animals has become a serious issue around the world. “All animals have the ability to suffer in the same way and to the same degree that humans do. They feel pain, pleasure, fear, frustration, loneliness, and motherly love” (Singer 2). Therefore we all have equal feelings just like them, Animals should have virtuous rights.
Just last year 10 billion animals were slaughtered in America alone (Site source later). Billions of animals are killed every year to satisfy the worlds hunger for meat. People do not realize how much meat they consume over the course of a year. Everyday Animals are killed to meet the demand for meat consumers. As the population increases so will the amount of food needed, this will lead to even more animals being killed each year. Animal abuse is happening all over the world no matter where someone lives, Animal abuse can even be at a restaurant or even just at someone’s house. People do not know how many forms of animal abuse there actually is. Animal abuse is in more forms than just physical abuse, there is also mental abuse
René Descartes, a famous philosopher, once argued that, “animals are not sentient- they are machines, like mechanical clocks, devoid of feelings and incapable of experiencing pleasure or pain” (Vaughn). Today, unlike Descartes, most people believe that animals are intrinsically or instrumentally valuable, also, whether they have or deserve any rights. Defining what cruelty is has been very subjective. To some people. An animal is just property and they can beat it around as much as they want, to others, animals are part of their family and they would never lay a finger on them. There is legislation against animal cruelty but because there is so much subjectivity, the legislation fails to deter people from abusing their animals. For there
Animal cruelty has been going on for years at a time. With the illegal hunting of animals and cruel test given upon them it makes you wonder if anybody really cares about what is being done to animals. Author of “Animal Rights, Human Wrongs”, Tom Regan, discusses the cruelty of what several animals go through and what people are doing about it. In this selection Regan tries to appeal to the emotions of the reader, gives facts on the things that are being done by people to animals, and tries to establish his credibility in the reading.
Imagine if you were thrown in a cage, beat to the verge of life, and all of this for no exact reason. These are some of the many hardships done to animals. All of this done for the entertainment of others and because of this, millions of animals are being abused every day. What is animal cruelty? Wikipedia states: “Cruelty to animals or animal abuse is the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals, other than humans, for purposes other than self-defense”. To put it in other words its harm for specific gain, such as killing animals for food or for their fur. Many people may say that that in an ideal world, animal cruelty would not exist. And, because were not an ideal world, animals are abused and beaten every single day. Should animals
Since the beginning of human-animal interaction, there has been a one-sided power dynamic that cripples animal welfare for the egotistical goal of filling our human desires. Animals of all kinds die a painful death in order to become the burger on another obese child’s plate, the fur coat for yet another greed driven member of the one percent, and for the lab testing for the perfume of another heartless person. Humans have turned a blind eye to many a tragedy in the past, yet the injustice against animals is one that is overlooked each and everyday. The entire world has convinced itself that it the act of killing animals for any reason is justified with the anthropocentric alibi that nothing matters but human comfort and expansion.
Animal cruelty is the act of inflicting harm or suffering upon animals for purposes other than self-defense. It may sound and be a terrible idea, but many do not notice that it is actually an ongoing issue and happens to all types of animals across the world. Animal cruelty has been an issue since the 1800’s and continues to be a problem. This act of violence is used by people and companies who we would hope would never do such things, yet we continue to support without realizing what is actually going on. The use of animals for entertainment or game hunting contributes to animal cruelty because it is unfair, cruel, and unsafe for animals of many kinds.
