Animal poaching What is poaching:
Poaching is the illegal hunting, killing or capturing of animals. This can occur in a variety of ways. Poaching can refer to the failure to comply with regulations for legal harvest, resulting in the illegal taking of wildlife that would otherwise be allowable. Examples include: Taking without a license or permit, use of a prohibited weapon or trap, taking outside of the designated time of day or year, and taking of a prohibited sex or life stage. Poaching can also refer to the taking of animals from a wildlife sanctuary, such as a national park, game reserve, or zoo.
What are the causes: The causes of animal poaching is a very widely open topic. To sum it up in a few words, Animal poaching is caused by
Did you know that poaching has led to most animal extinctions this century? Poaching is a continuously growing problem that will cause many problems to the environment and people. Poaching can be defined as the illegal hunting of animals on land that is not the hunters own. Poaching does not only happen in unprotected lands such as the wilderness, but it has also happened in protected lands such as zoos. Animals may soon become extinct because of the high rate of killing the poachers are doing. If animals do become extinct, life would be very different. An example of how life would be different without animals, such as tigers, is talked about by Eugene Linden when he said, “the wild tigers of old will be gone forever, their glory surviving
Around the world, there is an abundance of animals that are becoming extinct or endangered due to poaching. Animals such as Rhinos, Turtles, Gorillas, and the Tigers are critically endangered due to vulnerability and have been jeopardized by human activities. Many countries have legalized poaching, but still this problem has increased significantly in the past decade. If the world does not stop this issue countless of animals will become extinct, and our older generation will never be able to see these exotic animals living in their natural habitat. Poaching is happening all around the world and will never be stopped until people are more educated about this crime and what is occurring from it.
Poaching animals when not in season is a big habit for many, and a lot of those people don't get caught and even the ones who do aren't getting punished like they should. When we kill animals when
Poaching animals is defined as the “illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals mainly in areas in which hunting is forbidden” . The main difference between poaching and hunting is the legal permission, indeed “hunting is regulated by the government, and hunters must obtain permits authorizing them to kill certain animals” .
The wildlife is beautiful in Western Kentucky, but some people don’t respect them and the right way to hunt them if they are legal to kill. The main animals affected are usually the most common animals poached. The animal the that was affected the most is the black bear. The poaching was so bad, it almost erased black bears from Kentucky. The second most affected animal in western Kentucky is a whitetail deer. This is the most commonly hunted animal in western Kentucky. The poaching of these deer, have at times made the population low. The next most affected animal is the wild turkey. This type of hunting is less common than deer hunting, but it is still pretty popular. The turkey weren't that close to endangered as the others but it
Many people believe that poaching is wrong, but what most people do not realize is that poaching animals is an illegal crime in most places. Orenstein, proving his assertions, stated that, “Perhaps it is stating the obvious, but poachers, whatever drives them to poach, are breaking the law…The media often confuse matters by talking about ‘illegal poaching’ as though there were such a thing as
As we know, Utah has vast wilderness areas, five national forests, and wide array of wild animals attract both responsible appreciators of nature as well as opportunistic poachers. The weekends is the last day of the rifle deer hunt and one of the busiest days of the year. Unfortunately, over the past six months, coverage on the peak times on Friday nights and weekends has been decreased.
Laws were put in place to stop the great detriments in animal population, but the hunter ambitions overtake them and make them greedy and they use any way necessary to get their prize animal. One man who was caught Wesley Barrow said “ I did not care if I was caught I was set on my goal and I cared not what the repercussion of my action would be.” (wasser)This was said before his court date where he was found guilty of killing an animal in a protected area.At this point you're probably thinking why would a big game hunter and poacher work together. The reason they do is they're both after the same thing a big game animals even though they may have different motives like, one may be for a wall piece one while, the other before a paycheck but they're both still
This quote not only shows that poaching is a generational concept passed down from the years before, but that with strong enforcement and education, the act of poaching can be thwarted. Poaching, in my eyes is theft, a slap in the face to everyone who attempts to follow the rules and respect the natural world in which they live and play. It is estimated “that less than 5 percent of the citizens poach. This number is just an estimate, but we also speculate that less than 1 percent are caught” (Chapin 4). I feel the reason being that only 1 percent of the 5 percent of citizens that poach get got is due to the lack of enforcement officers. With an average conservation officer’s range of duty being 650 square miles, it makes it quite difficult to catch every abuser. This is where programs like Turn In Poachers (TIP) can be effective in supplementing a citizen's concerns with an officer’s daily patrol. Created in 1981, “this program has been a deterrent to the senseless waste of wildlife and is extremely beneficial to the DNR Enforcement Division” (“Turn in Poachers”). Thankfully, as stated by Chapin, poaching has diminished in certain areas. The social acceptability of big game poaching of deer and other small game just is not like it once was. Although, the poaching of fish has not been diminishing, but in some cases increasing overall. Poaching in general, is a senseless act of greed and gluttony that needs to be eradicated through strong enforcement and education to help preserve and protect our cherished
Trophy hunting is the legal hunt for wildlife, while poaching is killing animals illegally. Some people believe that the locals are thriving off of the money created from trophy hunting.
Wildlife hunting is a big business a 2013 estimate valued the illegal poaching trade in Africa worth 17 billion dollars a year and growing. While elephant poaching between 1800’s - 1999 and 2000’s and up have some similarities they also have a wide variety of differences. Elephant poaching in 1800’s-1999 was done to meet the worldwide demands, but elephant poaching in 2000’s and above was done for sport. Elephant poaching is wrong and shouldn’t be done.
Although poaching is an illegal act, it is still a growing problem in the world because it is making the extinction of various animals more probable. Not only it cruel, but it affects the environment and ecosystem where these animals reside. Although various people, usually trophy hunters or those uninformed, argue that it isn’t that big of a problem, there are realities to it that won’t be stopped unless we act upon it and bring awareness of the situation.
Planet Earth is the one and only home for humans, and it’s their natural duty to protect it and all of its inhabitants. For many people, the fate of animals is of little importance, especially when there are so many of their own species suffering throughout the world. However, only when one has respect for nature can he or she come to appreciate for his or herself. In the past few decades, some animals have progressively come closer and closer to extinction. When compared to demographics 30 years ago, less than 5% of tiger and rhino populations remain in the wild (Congressional). The main culprits for this abominable crime against nature are avaricious poachers who seek personal gain and profit. Poaching is the illegal killing of
“We are experiencing what is likely to be the greatest percentage loss of elephants in history,” said Richard G. Ruggiero, an official with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (Ney York Times; December 3, 2012). The poaching of elephants started in the late 1800’s and is still happening today. People are slaughtering these majestic animals for their ivory tusks. Ivory has been sold on the black market for millions of dollars. Before the start of ivory poaching there were millions of elephants in the world in both Africa and India, but today because of the hunting for ivory, there are barely any of these giants left in the wild. Throughout history Europeans have been moving in on central African states to make
Studies have shown in recent years that the amount of problems for game wardens has increased dramatically. In an article by the New York Time’s, William Dicke states that in previous years, economic issues have caused an uptick in poaching (Dicke, para. 7). Due to the sheer number of unemployed and the rates going up, crime is rising as well, and it shows in abnormal crimes like poaching. Since the unemployed have nothing to do, and they have too much time on their hands, the act of poaching is becoming more common. Often the animal is not harvested for its food products, but instead for its antlers or skin. This goes to demonstrate one of the various problems that game wardens often face, poaching.
