This paper addresses animal activists who strongly believe that animal testing is cruel and inhumane act. My audiences are already aware of the situation where tremendous amount of animals are harmed and some even killed from animal testing and experiments. Since they lean towards the side of arguments that disapproves animal testing, my purpose of writing this essay is to at least let my primary audiences to understand and accept the fundamental reasons for conducting animal testing.
Animal Rights or Medical Research According to Charles Darwin’s evolutionary theory in mid 1850s, he suggests that animals could serve as effective models to facilitate biological understanding in humans. Humans has used animals as subjects for experiments and researches

From the article “Animals and Ethics” by Ruth Cigman, Aristotle, a philosopher of education, who is the first natural scientist to conduct animal testing said, “Plants exist for animals, and animals exist for humans” (35). This saying can be interpreted as humans having dominant power over all living species, and us using animals for our needs can be justified due to the providence of nature. Thereby, it is okay to assume that humans have power over animals to use them as the subject to animal experiments. Apart from the providence of nature, National Geographic’s animal scientist Peter Miller’s essay “ Do Animals Have Interest Worthy of Our Moral Interest?” states even in a situation that directly affects humans survival, only human can take “responsibility” of killing other species (320). Bearing in mind that all living species are in food web where dominant figures take advantage of weaker figures, using weaker figures like animals, humans using animals as a way to benefit their survival can not be seen as a sense of
Picture yourself in a testing laboratory; needles, drugs, and knives pointed in your direction with you having no idea what’s going on around you, this is how animals everyday are treated, we have to stop this now! Millions of animals are killed in laboratories everyday with no chance to object to what the testers are about to do to them. Animals feel as much pain as humans do so why does it make it okay to test on them when they are so alike to humans? Every day people test makeup, shampoos, and medicines on animals, the strange thing is that animals have different skin, hair, and internal organs than humans have. Since the animals have different internal organs than humans only 5-25% of the testing results are agreeable between animals
Animal testing has been around since the third and fourth centuries BC, when it was performed by Greek philosopher-physicians. However, it is unknown when people began to question this process. In today’s society, the idea of testing products on animals has become more and more controversial with numerous groups being created and becoming even more vocal. While people will decide for themselves where they stand in this argument, I would hope that most would agree that animal abuse is wrong. So, if animal abuse is wrong and animal testing can be, and usually is, much more painful and severe than animal abuse; why can’t people agree on the subject of animal testing? However, the argument for animal testing is also legitimate. Animal testing
The subject of animal testing for human advantages has always been a debatable topic. It is still undecided whether the use of animals for human benefits is morally right. On the other hand it is scientists and researchers who think that animals are good testing subjects because of various reasons such as preventing harmful products or finding cures to diseases. The two essays “Animal Rights, Human Wrongs” by Tom Regan and “Proud to be Speciesist” by Stephen Rose talk about the concerns of animal rights but display the opposite viewpoints on the use of animals. Regan's argument has a more broad concept to the matter while Rose takes a deeper dive into exacts with an opinionated personal vibe. As the authors continue writing it is obvious
Did you know that the shampoo you use was probably forced down the throat of a rabbit, cat, or maybe even a dog? Each year, millions of animals are used to test how safe and effective products, such as cosmetics, are. They are genetically modified, force-fed harmful chemicals, blinded, scalded, and maimed. How could one not object to this awful cruelty? Animal testing should be banned because it is cruel, unnecessary, inaccurate, and expensive.
Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. Every year, more than a hundred million animals- including mice, dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, and many more- are killed in the U.S. They are killed for laboratories in biology lessons, training, curiosity experiments, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Experimenting on animals is a cruel way of testing products. Alternative testing methods now exist that can replace the need for animals. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, which wastes the lives of the animals. Also, animals suffer just like humans, so it is speciesism to experiment on animals while refraining from experimenting on humans.
Animal testing is used for scientific or commercial uses. Warm blooded animals , such as bunnies and mice, are used as subjects for makeup and household products. According to the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) it is legal for animal testing in the United States. Animal Testing should be banned unless the Animal has no more life in them.
Is a human life worth the same as an animal’s life? Diseases that were once very deadly and killed millions, are now treatable with ease. Although animal testing is inhumane to the animals, it is beneficial to the human race because it is responsible for saving many lives that would likely not have been saved.
Throughout the world, right under the human nose, millions of innocent and helpless, animals are being tortured and murdered. They are used for product testing as well as to put into products without consumer knowledge. These defenseless animals are deprived of respect and are victimized to an extent where it becomes unbearable to watch. There are many organizations that are trying to fight for animal rights. However, these organizations struggle with is because there is no legislation in the United States to combat animal testing. Even though it is not against United States regulations, animal testing should be outlawed because of its harmful and cruel effects.
Animal testing is defined as “any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm”(Cruelty Free). In my opinion, it is unethical to experiment on a thinking, feeling animal just for the purpose of a new beauty product because of this agony caused to the animal, not to mention the millions of animal deaths each year due to this testing.
Imagine being a rabbit; a vertebrate and warm blooded species. Hopping around an open field and eating all greens. All of sudden, you were captured by an unknown human. You start to rattle around your cage figuring out how to escape. About “twenty-five million and 30 million” animals are exploited in experiments; “half are only used through education” (Donna 7).
Many people have animals around the world, whether it be dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, even horses and llamas, and they all love them very much. A lot of people will do anything to ensure the comfort and safety of their companion and friend. Many people may be shocked and horrified to find that over 100 Million animals die each year due to animal testing. This essay will go into more detail about some reasons why people might find animal testing wrong, and some reasons why a lot of people see it as a good thing. While most believe that animal testing is important for medical research, some people think it is wrong because it’s been shown that less than 8% of all animal test results actually contain profitable data and that over 100 million
Animal testing is inhumane and unethical based on the scientifically supported claim that humans are also animals and have much to learn from them. It could be taken to the extreme that testing animals is similar to testing a family member, such as a cousin. In Ferdinando Boero’s “Humans Are Animals” he takes the stance that anthropologists and zoologists are in the same scientific sector. His claim is supported since humans are animals, then anthropology is a part of zoology. They can use this to help contribute to each other’s research, if only humans didn’t consider themselves above other animals. Humans are self-centered and consider themselves to be on the top, in respect to others within the animal kingdom, which is true in the sense that they are more developed in
Humans are animals, and as such it is morally wrong to use them to test pharmaceuticals intended for use by humans. Those who support animal experimentation believe it is a necessary evil, in part due to the false information put out by the media. The so-called benefits of animal testing have not helped humans for years, yet in many countries the law still requires researchers use animals to test their medications. In fact, although alternatives have been found, few steps have been taken to put an end to animal experimentation. Unfortunately, the way the activists present their argument that is one main reason they are not taken seriously, even though their points are valid. Animal testing is morally wrong and has not benefited humans as the media has claimed, but there are alternatives, such as new technology, if only humans would take the first step.
Every year, millions of animals suffer through painful and unnecessary tests. Animals in laboratories all over the world live lives of deprivation, pain, isolation, and torture. Even though vast studies show that animal experimentation often lacks validity, leading to harmful human reactions, we still continue to use this method of experimentation, while many other less-expensive and more beneficial alternatives exist. Going beyond the issue of animal experimentation being morally wrong, this form of research is also hindering medical progress. Although the use of animals in laboratories is said to be necessary for the welfare and health of humans, people mistakenly believe that this immoral and unscientific method of experimentation is
Is research on animals justified? Both Aristotle and Erasistratus used animals for research. “Galen, a physician in 2nd-century Rome, dissected pigs and goats and is known as the ‘father of vivisection’.” (lpag-biomed for the layperson) In the mid 1900’s Louis Pasteur discovered that microorganisms where responsible for diseases like chicken cholera and anthrax. He tested his hypothesis on animals and his research helped discover the need for immunizations against infectious diseases. (Botting & Morrison, 2002, p.79) The National Institute of Health states that medical research benefits both animals and humans. Research on viruses helped create the Dog parvovirus vaccine. Research dealing with reproduction lead to breeding programs for endangered species. HIV/AIDS research aided the creation of the Cat leukemia vaccine. Animals played an important role in the
