Should animals really be used for practicing medicine, cosmetics, and diseases that only inflict pain and suffering on them? Animal testing is controversial because scientists believe that the tests are doing a good deed to society by using animals to test products that may not be safe to humans, but animal testing is an inhuman practice and is animal abuse. The animals that are being used for the testing are the ones that do not cause harm to us and even help balance the ecosystem such as rats, rabbits, cats, snakes, cows, sheep, etc. Animals should not be used in this manner, there are much safer uses that can benefit humans that do not allow animals to suffer in such ways. Dogs and cats make great family house pets, cows provide us with dairy products, rabbits fertilize and graze the grass, and so on and so forth. So why do experimenters feel that it is okay to take them from their natural habitat and perform procedures that do not guarantee results? First of all, researchers use animals for all sorts of vaccines and medical testing. This results in mutations and infertile offspring along with other complications. Farm animals are the biggest victim when it comes to mutations in their offspring. Researchers are trying to improve food products by remodeling how farm animal’s reproductive systems work. “Cows, which normally bear one calf at a time, have been retooled to have twins and triplets, which often emerge weakened or deformed, dying in such numbers that even
There is a debate in the world today. Some people think they should do testing on animals and some people think they shouldn’t test animal because it’s not right for them to test and kill the animals when they're done. The United States is having a lot of trouble with people testing animals because this group called PETA is trying to end testing all over the world. The PETA is fighting for the animal welfare act. The animal welfare act does not let test on animal.
People can die due to store bought products being dangerous. With the help of animal testing these people can be saved. Animal testing is a series of experiments used to help save lives. Animal testing is used to find out if cosmetics, cleaners, and many other things are safe for human lives. If animal testing never happened more people would not be as safe. Because of animal testing many innocent lives have been saved. Animal testing is a very effective way to ensure product safety and should not be banned.
One major dilemma that companies face today is animal testing. Many cosmetic companies still use animal testing in an immoral ways of testing products. Out of the major 5 companies that are still animal testing for cosmetics stated by one green planet unleash your green monster. Which is a special interest foundation to protect animal-rights. In a recent article by Pam Ryan “Hate animal cruelty? You should probably avoid these cosmetic brands” states that that Olay was number one on their list (Pam Ryan).
According to the New England Anti-Vivisection Society on their research from Harm and Suffering, “[e]very year in the U.S., over 25 million animals are used in biomedical experimentation, product and cosmetic testing, and science education.” Animal testing has been traced back to Aristotle and Erasistratus who according to Rachel Hajar from Animal Testing and Medicine, “[were] [e]arly Greek physician-scientists” that have conducted animal experiments. Another physician who has performed animal experimentations, Galen, “conducted animal experiments to advance the understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology” (Hajar). Animal testing has furthered expanded to over 115 million animals that have been tested globally and 25 new medicines being approved each year by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). With the affirmations about animal testing that has an outcome of being positive, there are many factors why animal testing has failed to protect humans from drugs. Although animal testing is used to prevent the public from drug defects, it is revealed to be unnecessary to conduct animal experimentations because of the maltreatment that is forced upon the animals and the drugs that have been approved by numerous animal testing fail to treat humans.
Animal rights is the idea that all animals are entitled to the possession of their own lives and that they are entitled to their most basic needs. The topic of animals rights has been discussed in occurrences of illegal hunting, domestic animal abuse, and testing on animals for any purposes. There are a vast variety of reasons for why to test on animals, whether they be cosmetic or scientific. The most argumentative topic regarding animal testing is medical testing. The community that complies with medical animal testing does so because testing on animals for medical reasons helps researchers find drugs and treatments, proves the safety of products, and it is regulated. Those who protest testing on animals argue that it is expensive,
In today’s cosmetics industry, many ordinary animals, such as dogs, cats, rabbits, and monkeys, are being subjected to animal testing on products that could potential benefit a person’s complexion. Such animals are often chosen, because their DNA is genetically very similar to humans, and thus could be used for testing. The extensive procedures to testing various merchandises could potentially harm the animals during the process, because there are multiple trials to see whether or not the product is safe to use on humans. Of these trials, many animals suffer from intensive allergic reactions that could have long-term affects on them or potentially kill them. American cosmetic industry today are harming innocent animals, specifically rabbits, through testing procedures and instead should be using human cells to make synthetic cells that could be tested on rather than on live animals.
Animal testing is conducted every day for scientific research. About twenty-five million animals participate in experiments annually. These tests occur in order to determine how chemicals or products can affect a human body. Although the use of the animals has advanced scientific research, there is a worldwide debate on the belief that the use of animals in experiments is immoral. The US government did not require animal testing until a drug, elixir sulfanilamide, was put into certain products causing people to die. Many people died from the consumption of the liquid drug, not knowing such a thing was so deadly. Afterwards US Congress passed a “Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act” in 1938. This concurrent law forces new medications and chemicals to be tested on animals before taking a risk to test them on humans. In the article “Animal Testing” the author explains that medicines and certain chemicals are required to be tested on animals before being allowed to use on humans by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Marc R Fellenz states in 1966 the United States invented legal control over animal experimentation using the Animal Welfare Act. This regulates animal tests by requiring research laboratories to establish animal care and committees to monitor the treatment of these experimental subjects. Knowledge from such experiments provide a foundation for education in human anatomy and physiology. Occasionally, scientists will experiment on animals with
Killing. Torturing. Unfair. Inhumane. Cruel. Barbaric. These are all words to describe the evil that is animal testing. Animal testing has been a hot topic for many years and is still being debated today. If you are against this savage act then you have the right opinion. Animal testing is the wrong way to go about experimenting with drugs and products. It is cruel to put innocent animals in harm 's way, these animals are unfairly chosen, results can be inconclusive or just a waste, and there are other, better options to explore. Animal testing isn 't just some trivial problem. It’s an immoral dilemma.
As a society we have failed to notice, it’s everywhere. The animal testing footprint. Aeroguard, Chapstick, Michael Kors, Palmolive and Dettol: these common household brands all have the dark footprints of animal experimentation embedded into it.
Animal testing in the scientific and cosmetic fields has been a controversial topic throughout the world for many years. This topic keeps coming back up only to be pushed aside or covered back up by officials. Many people stay outraged and concerned when it comes to animal testing and the fact that it has gone on for so long. The fact of the matter is, that for years now scientist have been studying and developing numerous different methods that can be used for these type of testing’s and completely exclude animals from it all. The next step now is to apply these methods and keep moving forward and progressing with these methods.
Animal experimentation is not the most accurate testing, just because some medicine and cosmetic product pass an animal test it doesn’t mean it has a beneficial effect on humans. Animal tests have evolved in many ways throughout history in negative and positive ways. A strong negative being that we are different from animals but not just animals we are also different from each other. There are many arguments that we humans wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for reliance on animal testing. However, because of all the improvement in technology we have started to lean away from some animal practices. Which is excellent because some of the cruel testing has started to die down, some studies showed that testing isn’t always as
Nearly every disease known to humans has been researched at some point in time using animals (Lee). As a matter of fact 100 million animals are used in chemical, food, cosmetic, and medical testing every year (Mendoza). Testing on animals can be cruel and inhumane. Many of the test done to animals have already been performed. Despite animal testing alternatives many researchers still use animals in research today. Animals should not be used in research.
Although many believe animal testing is necessary to ensure medicines and cosmetic products are safe, alternative methods of testing, such as in vitro tests and EpiDerm, are available and should be implemented. Animal testing is the use of animals in research to determine the safety of a product. Animal testing is an outdated science while alternative, non-animal methods are rapidly becoming more effective. Laws in the United States do not require cosmetics or medicinal drugs to be tested on animals, only that the products must be proven safe. Animals are harmed during the tests, despite the numerous laws put in place to avoid cruelty. In order for animals to be protected and laboratory tests to yield the best results, animal testing methods should be replaced with alternate tests.
In the world we live in today there is a pet present in over fifty-one percent of the families. Because we are talking about in the world the types of pets can ran range from a cat or dog to a giraffe or elephant. To the owners of these animals they are not just pets, but members of their family. Considering these animals are looked after as if they were children; would you like for your child to be a test dummy for products of cosmetic and military supply? Sensible beings will say no because it would be considered inhumane. It should not be any different for animals. Just as we have senses and feelings animals have the same if not a more intense version. Animals require more space to live efficiently, the ability to be in their natural habitat to learn survival as well as a social life; their constant inclination to extinction is growing and military testing is shortening their lifespan, animals feel just as a human which is why animal testing should be banned.
When it comes to the topic of preventing and treating diseases in humans, most of us will readily agree that animal testing is a great way to go about testing our products. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of does animal testing effectively allow humans to move forward in life, allowing us to live a long and healthy life. Whereas some are convinced that animal testing isn’t effective, animals having lived in a completely different environment are more immune to diseases than us. Others even maintain that there are alternatives to animal testing, saying animal testing is not needed. I agree that animal testing is viable, because millions of treatments to diseases have been discovered due to animal testing.
