In the second entry of Anne Frank's diary, Margot got a call-up from the SS, which forced the Franks to go into hiding in fear of their future. After Otto Frank came home, "Margot and I started packing our most important belongings into a schoolbag" (Frank para. 15). Margot and Anne went packing after their Father told them they were going into hiding. This was the same day that Margot got called-up. Anne packs memories and some objects to keep her occupied in her hiding place because it reminds her of home and what it was like before her world turned upside down. After Anne arrives, she glues her entire postcard and movie-star collection on the wall. While Anne is hiding in the Secret Annex, she writes, "The first thing I stuck in was this diary, and then curlers, handkerchiefs, schoolbooks, a comb and some old letters...Memories mean more to me than dresses" (Frank para. 15). Anne packs the stuff that means most to her and will keep her content while in the Annex. The following day, she continues to write about her life in the Secret Annex. Anne writes, "...I was able to plaster the wall with pictures. It looks more cheerful" (Frank para. 19). Anne tries to make the Annex as homely as possible. She puts up her own posters to make the place look like her home as much as possible. …show more content…
Olivia uses evidence of when Anne talks about people who are nice to the Jews. For instance, Anne would say that the ferryman and the dental assistant are benevolent. Anne also talked about Hello. Even though there is a lot of chaos going around with discrimination against Jews, Anne brings up Hello, the ferryman and the dental
While in hiding, Anne Frank was closed off from the world as she was not allowed to leave the “Secret Annex”. To pass time Anne would read books and wrote in an autograph book she received for her 13th birthday, the book in which she used as a diary described her life in hiding, her various thoughts, and relationships with the members of the Secret Annex in which Anne was hiding in. Before going into hiding, Otto Frank had notified a few of his most trusted workers where they would be hiding. The workers would shortly visit the annex to tend the Franks with necessities such as food and gave news of the war. Although life was hard, their survival from Hitler’s regime seemed promising until in a sudden sad turn of events, one of Otto’s workers
The only thing she had to do was study and write in her diary. She never goes outside and always has to worry about if their ever going to be discovered and killed. The Frank Family wasn’t the only ones that went into hiding in the “Secret Annexe”, also the Van Daans and Mr. Dussel, making a total number of eight. Their survival in the “Secret Annexe” was dependent on their helpers who brought them food, news from the outside, and books.
On Anne Frank’s 13th birthday, she received a journal and immediately fell in love with it. Despite her loving family, numerous companions, and a throng of admirers, Anne felt that she has no true friends. Thus, Anne wanted “the diary to be my friend,” and named it Kitty. Anne dived into her journal by providing a brief description of her life, including the discriminatory behavior that Jews faced in Amsterdam. A month later, the Frank family was shocked when they received a call – up notice from the German SS for Margot (Anne’s older sister). Due to the call – up, the Frank family packed hurriedly and left a false note that they would be in Belgium. In actuality, they hid in a disused laboratory in Otto Frank’s (Anne’s father) office. Otto’s coworkers (Miep and Bep) were aware of the situation and provided food, clothing, and other necessities. Due to the increase in searches for Jews, Mr. Kugler, one of Otto’s colleagues, installed a bookcase at the entrance of the secret annex.
The Holocaust was a time of war where many families were separated from one another and many had died from this tragic event. Although, from the book “Diary of Anne Frank” a Jewish girl named Anne that had been affected by the Holocaust had said, “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” Even though Anne and her family faced many hardships during the Holocaust Anne still saw the good in it all, and after reading the book I have to agree with Anne’s quote. One of the main reasons of why I am siding with Anne is because of Peter’s actions throughout the book and how his actions rapidly changed once Anne showed kindness to him. However, I can see how some people may disagree with Anne’s quote throughout Mr. Van Daan’s horrible actions throughout the book.
In the late 1930s and early 1940s the world experienced very traumatic events. Adolf Hitler comes to power in Germany. He banned all political parties, except the Nazis. Two of the families that were affected by his changes were the Franks and the Van Daans. Anne Frank was a member of the Frank family. Her family and the Van Daans experienced what was happening personally. During the time that she was forced to go into hiding, she kept a diary with her. The diary has become very important item for learning about the events that happened. Historical events are reflected in the play “The Diary of Anne Frank” by showing how what’s happening in the outside world affects the families that have had to go into hiding.
“In 1924, Anne Frank was born in an upper class Jewish family in Frankfurt, Germany” (Frank, Anne(lies)). She lived with her parents (Otto and Edith) and older sister (Margot). In 1933, she was only four year old when the Nazi’s hatred for Jewish began and Nazi claimed control of Germany in the second World War. For the first five years they lived as a normal family. After trying to immigrate to England on the U.S had failed so they decided to hide. Then Anne’s parents starting thinking about hiding in the Annex from the Nazi for fear being captured. The hiding spot the parents picked out was in Amsterdam, which they moved to in 1934. The Annex was in an office building where her father
“She kept a diary while in hiding at Prinsengracht in Amsterdam.”( Annefrank.org) She was very thoughtful of what she need to do to survive in the house. Anne used very smart words while writing during hiding for 2½ years. In the house that had little supply of food and things that they needed in the house, so Anne proportioned her food very well so she would have plenty to eat.
The people hiding knew they were in trouble. Nazi officers questioned someone helping them hide which led to and investigation of all rooms of the building in the office. Soon the Nazi’s came to the room with the secret enterance behind a hinged bookcase. Once the discovery of the enterance to the hiding space the officer entered to arrest the people who spent two years in fear that this event would come. “I remember that day as if it were yesterday. I was so scared as I heard the officer with the gun run up the stairs,” Anne stated as she grew with anxiousness throughout the interview. AFter being caught by the Nazi’s their valuables were collected and they were given five minutes to head out of the annex. One thing that was not viewed as a valuable was Anne’s diary. Anne had spent two years writing in her diary. Each entry would be titled with “Dear Kitty,...” until her last entry right before she had to abandon it for her new life in concentration camp. Four days later she was sent to the camp Westerbork only to be sent to Auschwitz later in September. “ I remember the amount of happiness I felt when I was sent to the barracks and not to the gas chambers even if I still had to suffer the pain of a concentration camp. I wanted to survive as long as I could,” says Anne Frank. About two months after being sent to Auschwitz she was sent to Bergen-Belsen where she had to leave behind her mother, father, and more. She was sent with her sister Margot who is extremely ill currently. “ I am all bones right now and starving but I am try to fight even if my parents are probably still not alive. I miss my parents dearly,” states Anne as tears start down her face. Anne’s story is just one of many in this camp, but any story of this horrible time must be
In the beginning, Anne’s naivety is apparent, but she makes a sensible choice by attempting to stay positive by partaking in enjoyable, everyday activities, such as singing and dancing, which allows her to distract herself from everything that is going on outside of the annex. Then, she maintains her positivity by making presents for her friends and family to remind them to never to leave behind past traditions even in desperate times, demonstrating her growth in maturity. In the end, when times become tougher than ever, Anne turns to her diary even more so to hide away from reality, giving her a genuine chance to collect her thoughts and find herself as a woman. Anne’s mixture of positivity and maturity allow her to face adversity with a smile on her face and teaches readers that they can do the same if they find ways to alleviate their burdens while staying positive. Although Anne does not survive the harsh, inhumane actions committed upon her, through her optimism and unwillingness to give up, Anne Frank leaves a long lasting memory of her life and inspires others to do the
A young girl named Anne Frank was a German refugee in the Netherlands who was one of the millions of Jews affected by the Holocaust and World War II. She went into hiding in the summer of 1942 with her family and the Van Daans in the Secret Annex, located inside her father's workplace, to prevent going to a camp. Anne recorded events that happend while they were in hiding in her diary along with her personal thoughts and feelings. After World War II, her diary was published and is now the second most read non-fiction book in the world. Anne's entries tell us about what life was like in hiding and the problems they faces while in the Secret Annex. It also showed us that people are willing to try and prevent bad things from happening to them and their families.
Have you ever heard of the Holocaust? The Holocaust was a terrible time in history when Adolf Hitler was torturing many innocent Jews. He put them in concentration camps, but many tried to hid just like Anne Frank and her family. Anne Frank who was Jew, has a famous quote that says “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” Even though throughout the “Diary of Anne Frank” we see that people are not always the best they could be, I agree with Anne and believe that everyone is still good at heart. One overall reason I chose that people are really good at heart are the acts of kindness Peter has throughout the book to Anne. However, I do know that there are two sides of an argument, I can see how some might

In chapter two, which contain dates Thursday, July 9, 1942, through Thursday, November 9, 1942, Anne and her sister Margot are hurried too quickly begin packing for the time that they are spent in hiding. They bring little with them
Do you ever get mad when your parents say you can’t do something or go anywhere? Well, imagine how Anne feels being isolated in that room all day long, every day. The story "Diary of Ann Frank" reveals what it’s like to transition from childhood to adulthood in the modern life. The theme of the story is living in oppression and how it affects Anne as a person, both physically and emotionally. For two years, Anne and her family along with another family are locked up in hiding in a secret loft. “The diary of Anne Frank” shows us that sometimes family is all we got but we have to make the best of it and be thankful we have our family. Anne Frank quoted “we all eat and read like one family” (page 230) This statement tells us that no matter what
In Anne’s diary her hideout, also the setting of the book, is a big reason why the diary is how it is. Because of their setting, it shows how the theme of war is all around the Franks and they are lucky not to be caught. For example, because they shared their home with an office building, the Franks witnessed some attempted robberies. On March 25,1943, Anne states, “ Mr.Van Daan got up and put on his coat and hat and followed Daddy cautiously downstairs, Peter took up the rear, armed with a large hammer in case of emergencies. The gentleman reappeared five minutes later and told us all was quiet in the house. The excitement had affected most of our tummies, you can imagine the atmosphere was like when we had each paid a visit in succession”. The burglaries in Anne’s diary remind us that every day they had to be worried about something. It kept the readers wondering what will happen next.
