Anne’s story has touched hearts and changed lives, telling the tale of war from the perspective of a innocent child at the first stages of her teens. Not all, but many have read this book as an assignment of some sort, only to come out with information that makes the heart truly heavy. The Diary of Anne Frank illustrates the effects of war in a brutally honest way, especially to the minds of developing humans such as teens. In the play version of The Diary of Anne Frank we follow a young teenager named Anne struggling to grow up. As she is growing up the holocaust starts and she is forced to go into hiding for a few years. A similar novella titled Night follows Elie Weisel during his struggle during the Holocaust. This book is straight from Elie many years after the Holocaust, where he writes about all the pain and torture he went through as a teenager in concentration camps. Although Anne Frank and Elie Weisel didn’t go through the same torture and had different focuses, both felt value in their father and strength because of him.

However, the book Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is a coming of age story, where the main character, Anne Frank, struggles through her teenage years while having to face the conflict of belonging to a persecuted ethnic group.

The book is filled with references to the deprivation which jews had to deal with at the time and shows how the war bought on a discriminating attitude toward Jewish people, which forced her family to suffer unbelievable hardships; they starved, they suffered illnesses, and went through a lot of psychological strain. Particularly because Anne was my own age when she began her diary, I felt that I could compare my own life to to hers at the time, which gave me a deeper understanding of how the Jewish holocaust had affected the jews. Although she didn’t blatantly say it, I felt that Anne also understood the way that her suffering influenced others. This is shown when she said “If we bear all this suffering and if there are still Jews left, when it is over, then Jews, instead of being doomed, will be held up as an example.” This diary humanizes and brings back to life the Jewish people who were unfairly taken from their homes and gives faces to the millions of jews who were victims of the second world war, which I think is what makes it such an important historical
