When the members and I were discussing our interpretations and understandings of the essay, I was slightly surprised by their response since my assumption was that we would have the same or similar opinion about Answering the Big Question by Father Raymond de Souza. Their analysis was Father Raymond suggesting that parents should discuss religion to their children more frequently, those who fail to are lazy and that children should not spend so much time with extra-curricular activities. The members dislike and disagree with what the essay is conveying, stating that parents have no need to discuss religion with their children and that the children are allowed to believe whatever they wish.
I did not necessarily comprehend it this way; however,
In schools, the place where Americans first learned critical fundamentals and values of freedom, religion is separated from home life to school life. In the United States, 89% of public school teacher’s cannot lead a class in prayer, 36% can teach a class comparing religions in different countries, and only 23% can read from the Bible for examples of literature (citation). Without religious instruction in schools, students are not granted with the option to display their faith and practice their religion in a school setting. Despite the advantages, some Americans argue that teaching religion in public schools can be dangerous and harmful to students. Schools disapproving of students practicing
Children may have to attend a school that is associated with their religion. It is always possible that this gives the child a different quality/balance of education. They may struggle to understand other people‘s religion or lifestyle choices. They may become confused or isolated and
With reference to Peta Goldburg’s (2012) Transforming religious education: Implications from the Second Vatican Council, the following discussion will review and critique the important religious education approaches that has had an impact on the Catholic schooling system for the past fifty years, and also help shape the contemporary classroom we teach in today.
Regarding the article, there’s aspects that make me both agree and disagree with his statement. I’ll touch on how education can interfere with religion, how education can bring you closer to your parents, and why your relationship with your parents is almost entirely in your control.
Regarding the article, there’s aspects from both my personal experience, and my assumptions in general, that make me both agree and disagree with his statement. I’ll touch on how religious education ruined my relationship with my parents, how education can bring you closer to your parents, and why your relationship with your parents is almost entirely in your control.
Religion is one of the largest controversies in the world, due mainly to different people with different backgrounds and cultures are in America. Religion creates positivity and brings people together, but can also cause arguments and debates. America founded its nation on religion; however, society has slowly pushed it away year by year. Religion is being pushed out of our classrooms, schools, and communities because of the miniscule percentage of people in America who aren’t religious. People are becoming offended easily by religious topics, which is causing the negativity among American citizens. America’s youth are being deprived of an education that includes world religions and culture. There hasn’t been a single successful effort to reinstate religion into schools despite efforts to slowly take away the changes that have been made to take religion out. I propose to reestablish religion into Athens High school because it forms good morals that will help America’s youth become better contributors of society.

Brandt’s essay, Do Kids Need Religion?” is based on how someone should answer a kid’s question. When Brandt’s daughter was ten years old, her friends died in a house fire. The parents of Brandt’s daughter’s friends took the death well because they were strong and brave about what happened. They were devoted Catholics and talked about how their two little girls were in heaven. But Brandt is not religious in any way and when her daughter asked what happened to her friends, he told her something that he did not believe in because he thought that these deaths had no meaning and could not justify it. Brandt asks families if they think that their children needs religion. He also asks doctors on their point of view about religion and if kids need it. People who have a religion do not have to worry about what kinds of question their child can ask them because they have their own faith and can confidently answer their question. Brandt essay is mainly towards nonbelievers and wants to know

While religion is a complex topic and an ongoing search for answers and explanation, the in-depth class discussions throughout the semester have significantly helped shape my personal understanding of religion. With the thorough reading and, discussions, my knowledge on the different ideas behind multiple religions has expanded. I gained a spiritual awareness of the diverse world of religion and an appreciation for all it has to offer. Now that I possess a better understanding of many different religious ideologies, I have a clearer view of what role “faith,” “religion,” and “critical reason” play in my life. Faith and Critical Reason has shaped my spiritual understating of myself in a positive way.
As we know, parents and their children ad a strong raltionship. Especially the children with their mom. Usually, children always hear what their parents say. When will they go to school, what school will they attend, what will they do after passed Senior High School. Even when the children was born, their parents have to choose what religion will their children have. Usually, the children will agreed what their parents say. They will think that’s the best choce for themselves.
What stood out to me in this chapter was the fact that socialization has a major role in how we interact with those around us but most importantly was when it talked about religion. What caught my eye was that religion has a significant importance on the way that we interact in our society due to the fact that our primary caregivers. The way that we see the world having is accepted by our caregivers because we are raised and taught at a young age the customs of they believe is the right way and that everyone else is wrong. I agree what what is being said because whatever we a taught or learn throughout our lifespan, we take all of that inconsideration and eventually start to apply it in our daily lives. Those that grow up in religion behave a certain way because the customs and norms that they have. They prohibit a lot of things and see the world differently compared to those that do not
The subject of religion in public schools is one that has been debated vigorously and passionately. The warriors from the Right and Left fail to appreciate the facts because they are caught up in the rhetoric and have difficulty viewing this emotional topic dispassionately (Haynes, 2011). Both sides are right about one thing: this is an important subject.
One of the avenues of influential learning is in school. The place where students spend half of their life. Going to school aids students in acquiring knowledge, establishing rapport and developing skills. When students attend school, they showcase not only their characters traits and attitudes, but they also carry with them their cultural differences and religious practices. (Green & Oldendorf, 2005). Looking at how diverse our society is, the question of teaching religions and their ideologies at a school-level rise. Whilst the state practices neutrality towards religion, there are still issues and challenges when it comes to accommodating religious diversity and its integration in the education system (Berger, 2013, p.104). Therefore, integrating religion in the education system can lead to
In this essay, I am going to discuss religious education under various topic headings including R.E and the R.E teacher, World Religions and morality and ethics. Through attending lectures and seminars, I have learned a lot about the Religious Education system in Ireland and further afield. Furthermore, in my reflective journal, I have reflected on a world of possibilities of what religion means to me. Throughout the year, my opinions on certain topics has changed, or has strengthen and I feel the reflective journal has helped me. In the essay, I am hoping to include reflections, readings and my experiences from the lectures and seminars to discover the various of topics.
