There could be certain communities of people that will have their own secret agenda within the organization. This alone can create discrimination and stress. The second limitation is the thought that spirituality in the workplace can create an atmosphere where employees may perceive the spiritual dialect as being too personal and private – leaving others to feel pressured to express their spirituality. The third significant limitations noted was spirituality being used as a management and/or manipulating tool to the employees. The article reports that spirituality will in essence lose its authenticity and will be seen as a marketing and/or managerial
1. Based on reading this selection, how is ethnographic research different from other social science approaches to research?
Workaholism is a disorder that has ruined the lives of many individuals. The need to work can over shadow and dominate a person. Workaholism is a disorders that is driven by the person themselves. Shifron (1999) writes that the disorder itself not only dramatically affects the person but “also negatively affects the individual’s entire family system and society. This disorder dramatically takes a toll on the person’s mental and physical ability to deal with everyday reality. A workaholic may even fantasize about work during leisure time and family events (Snir, 2008). To a workaholic their drive to work is viewed as a gift or luxury to their loved ones. But in reality working is an escape from the problems, hardships, and insecurities a workaholic has. In this article workaholism is shown as a disorder that can easily ruin lives ranging from the workaholic to those in close proximity. Workaholism can easily be noticed and employers should take the necessary steps to help a workaholic out of their habits. Plotrowski and Vondanovich (2008) suggest that employers “encourage workaholics to participate in counseling.”
Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding why organizations fail and spirituality in the workplace. While many organizations make the claim that God is a stakeholder, these words are of non-effect unless the leader first partakes in whatever is necessary to ensure the followers share the vision and are led by example.
This is my first time that I come to New York, so I am curious about many things in this new place, such as the famous resorts, and the people here. As we know, the Times Square is very famous in New York. When I was in China, I hope I can visit Times Square, because I saw Times Square was very great in some of the opening of American series. Now, I am in New York, and I have enough chances to visit Times Square whenever I want. In there, it gives me a new horizon to understand the culture that is different from China.
When I and two other people left class and walked to the Anthropology open house, we were stopped outside of the door to receive the paper. We were told we needed 6 other stamps in total to get the extra credit for the assignment. One stamp was given to use at the door.
There are many lost civilizations that today anthropologists and archaeologists are slowly finding. They go into these places and dig up artifacts and information about the people that live in these places. They also try and find what happened there to see what government they had, what they usually did in these places, and how they became lost. There are three places where each has an old, small, lost culture or civilization. These three places are Peru, Bangladesh, and Florida. Here is some information found in three videos about the civilizations in each country or state.
1. In which region and in what country is San Basilio located? What is the language of the linguistic minority in this region? What are the cultural advantages of being in this linguistic minority?
An individual becomes a victim following an event resulting in an injury, a loss in some manner, as well as incidents creating a hardship (Karmen, 2016). A victimologist studies the impacts of various factors following an incident where an individual has been victimized. There are several perspectives a victimologist may study an incident, this week the question asked for a reference to the anthropological, historical, and economic perspectives as they would relate to a stabbing. An anthropological perspective examines situations through comparison to other regions of the world as well as in events that occurred in the deep past. The historical perspective examines past events in an effort to understand current events. Finally, the economic
An ethnographic study would be the most beneficial methodology for my research because it focuses on an in-depth study of a group (Hoonard 2012).
In the first couple of weeks we have talked about multiple topics about humans. Starting off the beginning of class we got a brief description in what the coarse was going to be. We learned that anthropology was the study of people and culture. There are four subfields of anthropology which include cultural, linguistic, archeology, and physical or biological anthropology. There were many different hypotheses that people believed in how the world was created. People believed in different ideas like the young earth hypothesis, catastrophism, and uniformitarianism. Charles Darwin was the one that created the theory of natural selection. The coarse then went into biology and talked about the genetics of the people. We learned about genes,
This paper is just the latest to come from Professor Henshilwood and others' research on African archaeology that has debunked the idea that modern human behavior originated in Europe after about 40,000 years ago.
Although many organizations forbid religious express, it is almost impossible to stop an employee from thinking about their religious commitments (Hick, 2003). Understanding how individuals are influenced by their religion and how that affects the work environment is vital for leaders to avoid conflict within the workplace. In higher education, practicing religious pluralism at work is essential because of the diverse groups of people that are involved in the higher education workforce.
According to Merriam-Webster, sociology is defined as, “the study of society, social institutions, and social relationships.” While sociology offers a perspective usually about the United States, anthropology offers a new perspective. According to Merriam-Webster, anthropology is defined as, “the study of human beings and their ancestors through time and space and in relation to physical character, environmental and social relations, and culture.” Anthropology holds a comparative analysis component in study that sociology lacks. It is the comparative analysis component that makes anthropology an important lens to use when looking at human reproduction. Human reproduction is not a universal event, it varies from person to person, culture to culture. Using anthropology as a lens for the study of human reproduction allows people to understand a biological process in a social context comparatively.
I chose four different anthropological projects from around the word in which I believe would be best for the Archaeology Conservancy to protect. I ranked these different projects based on quality of work, potential for public use, threatened nature, and heritage importance. I first reviewed the Mosfell Archeological project in Iceland. This area will construct a vivid picture of the human and environmental change in southwestern Ireland. The purpose of this project is to find the prehistory and early history of the Mosfell region. I also looked into the Pylos Regional Archaeological project. This project started in 1990 to look at prehistoric settlements in western Messenia, Greece. The Yaxuna project caught my attention because the
In no other time in history have we witnessed such a drive towards overwork. Some may get a sense of satisfaction from it, but many become less happy and have to suffer much. With the appearance of this phenomenon, the term “workaholic” has been coined to describe these people. Since it was familiar to men, more research have been done to this popular issue—workaholism, and it has been proved that workaholism has great effects on human. This essay gives definitions of workaholism and reveals its positive and negative impacts on our well-being in terms of health, personal relationship and society. In spite of them being two sides to workaholism, I am convinced that its negative impacts far outweigh its positive ones.
