Sagging is a form of self-expression among a group of people altered as having some form of crime affiliation. But is the fad a crime?
Young men and women of all cultures across the United States have adopted this style of dress. The “Sagging” of one’s pants unbelted and oversized white T-shirts are generally what are worn. Individual who do not know the history of this sag has found themselves at the brunt of the fashion police.
In the early 90’s this fad found itself circulated through communities across the United States. The wearers unaware of this prison fashion find it cool to sag. Others consider this dress to nasty, disgusting and some feel it is disrespectful and gang related. Sagging is a form of self-expression among a group of people altered as having some form of crime affiliation. But is the fad

This fad which is now considered a crime was worn by Hip-Hop and R&B artists then the skateboard community decided to sag. “In response to the growing popularity of this fashion, city councils are passing a new type of public indecency ordinance. These “anti-sag ordinance[s]” prohibit individuals from wearing their pants so as to reveal their undergarments in public. In some instances, violators of the ordinances may be imprisoned.” Delcambre, La., Ordinance 2007-04 (June 11, 2007).
The proper outcome would be to keep such ordinances in place however; the punishments should not be to the extent of a jail sentence. Is this fad a crime or just a minor form of indecent exposure? This fad as in others will dwindle with fines imposed and a taste of community service for showing your underwear in public. The disallowance of entry to particular establishments, because this style of dress does not fit in particular settings or establishments would be a way to prevent patrons from feeling
The prominent reason behind the various overdone school rules regarding dress is the loose power that administrators have been given. They have been “reserve[d] the right to determine if a clothing item or accessory is appropriate for school” (Carroll High School Student Handbook 2010-2011 18). The officials at school are using their own personal opinions to judge the students’ dress. Since styles change as time goes on, the generation in control and the
The outfit we may choose to wear causes certainly, absolutely no harm to others surrounding us. Thus, what may be the point? Why must they enforce it? Therefore, now is our time, as students of Westlake High School, to stand up for what we believe in and declare we be given the right to wear whatever we may please. Under certain circumstance of course, nothing outrageous, or whore-like. And as for males of our society, no pants must expose thou of thy nature below the waist.
Today’s fashion trends, such as leggings, yoga pants, shorter skirts, booty shorts, form-fitting shirts, and spaghetti straps, have sparked controversy in schools. They have been banned from a great many. In my school, leggings, shorts, skirts, yoga pants, tank tops and off-the-shoulder tops were banned for girls. This
Sagging has become an issue in several states to include our schools. This type of expressive dress is currently an illegal action, severe enough to warrant fines, ISI (in school isolation) or, and, jail time which ironically is where it all started.
Fashion is very important in modern day society, and can be seen all around. Most of what people know about fashion today came from the fashion during the renaissance. From the vibrant fabrics to the spectacular jewels, renaissance fashion has been thoroughly threaded in the fashion of modern society. Modern day women often wear shorty, fun gowns, tightly fitting jeans, and lower cut tops. Popular fashion trends for men in modern society include saggy jeans, V-neck shirts, and stylish watches. “A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months” (Oscar Wilde). Fashion in modern day society is ever changing, but most changes do not stray too far from the original product.
The American culture has had many different trends. Though older individuals have never quite approved of young men and women’s dress code, it has been excepted and never severely charged. Fashion trends have become an expression of one’s personal style among today’s youth. In some cases, it can be thought that a certain type of dress is directly connected to performance, attitude, and overall behavior in school, outside activities, and life in general. The continued argument between parents and their children over what is considered to be deceit has lasted since the beginning of time. A very popular yet rarely fashion statement among teenagers these have raised the question of indecency and criminal activity to
Growing up we were taught to express ourselves freely. If this law were to ban young men and women from sagging, then they would no longer be themselves. From my understanding, freedom of expression has allowed many people to dress to however they like. It gave them their right, and their right to voice their own opinion and not be judged.
Clothing has always been a social representation of who you are as a person. Throughout time clothing has been changing from the time of cavemen when humans wore animal fur and skin to now where you see models wearing diamonds as a shirt. In the 1940’s women stole the scene of fashion introducing a different style of clothing you would never see in today’s fashion world. As the world changes, so does clothing.
School dress code is possibly one of the most enforced rules in today's school system. Despite the issues of drugs, alcohol, or dangerous weapons on campus, the dress code system is clearly the most important issue in schools today. Who cares about the fighting, the bullying, or the education of students? A teenage girl's shoulder being shown is obviously much more distracting and dangerous to the school environment than kids throwing punches left and right.
For example leggings, leggings are one of the most popular clothing items that are now a days used a lot by females, but not only girls, female teachers use them too. If teachers would real want to re enforce dress code, they should set an example for us. And the consequences they give students sometimes go overboard. For example, The wrong choice could get you kicked out of class or suspended; and if you want to fight for your right to a hoodie or a short skirt, you and your parents may have to file suit and head for court. Sates the article, “Strict School Dress Codes Have Gone Beyond Safety Concerns”.
What’s the harm in it? Humans appear are the only species that consider their body to be offensive and needs to be hidden behind pieces of clothing. Freedom of choice is the only answer. If somebody wants to wear clothes, that's fine let them. If somebody does not want to wear clothes, that's fine let them. If someone doesn't like what they see as they drive or walk by, then don't look. Nudity, in and of itself, is a very natural thing. We are all born that way. Those who desire the freedom to be nude should be allowed to do so, as long as everyone in their community is in agreement. most of the clothes people wear these days leave little to the imagination anywayIf it was legal for long enough people would become used to seeing
Trends come and go, but I believe the worst but a recent one in which men are wearing flashy feminine clothing and accessories, known as “swag”. I believe this trend has attracted many followers, many of who are heterosexual, mainly because they want to make a statement by showing that they are manly despite of what they wear, to get attention, and also due to psychological body image issues. It is my preference that these men dress more masculine, because I do not find it attractive when straight men dress like women.
A bug bite was my greeting as I walked into a warm blast of air, promptly, I looked up only to see a ceiling that never seemed to end with the words Wal-Mart written all over it. Without delay, I darted for the frozen food section in hopes of finding my favorite food, Sushi. While searching through the aisles I couldn’t help but realize something very peculiar, everyone I laid eyes on was either dressed in an appropriate or inappropriate manner. After realizing that many people in the store dressed inappropriately for public spaces, I began to question my own dress code. This pattern has gained recognition not only by me, but also by the media. According to an article in the CNN Living, dressing up in public has become something of the past,
Scoliosis is a complex deformity or curvature of the spine and entire torso and has been recognized clinically for centuries (Asher, Marc A.). “For a few of the patients an underlying cause can be determined, including congenital changes, secondary changes related to neuropathic or myopathic conditions, or later in life from degenerative spondylosis. However, the cause of most scoliosis is not known and since about 1922 such patients have been diagnosed as having idiopathic scoliosis (Asher, Marc A.).”
The Years between the 1950’s and 1960’s was an explosive time in fashion. The 50’s represented an out coming of the new generation. People began to gain their own personal style and appearance, influenced by films and singers (“Vintage Fashion”). Their styles incorporated leather, jeans, corduroy, and the ballet shoes for the girls. Men’s wear began to drastically change. Men would wear a leather jacket, with jeans that narrowed at the bottom, and a simple t-shirt (Peacock 210-211). This was the first time in history that jeans were not just worn by the working class but by all men (“Brief History”). The man’s lust for flesh grew during this time, so women’s skirts began to get shorter and the bikini was invented. Clothes were made to glorify the female body and emphasize every curve. It wasn’t until the Barbie doll was created in the late 50’s that young girls began to have a separate fashion from their mothers. Young girls would wear sweaters with full skirts or pants
