Antigone and I Comparison Being compared to a person can be a compliment or a shameful moment. It’s all about how you personally see the being. In Sophocles play, Antigone, I caught myself comparing my personal attributes to Antigone's. I will analyze Antigone and I in these three categories; simple appearance, bold personality, and interesting childhood life that resemble each other in an extraordinary way. My appearance is simple, as well as Antigone's, preferring little or no accessories and rarely dressing up. Dressing up is only used for special occasions, we believe it’s useless and a waste of time. Just because we do not dress up does not mean we're not clean. We keep excellent hygiene and hate feeling gross. Picking out shoes is never a problem for us, if we could go barefoot anywhere we would in a heartbeat. My feet can withstand many concerns! I live on a farm covered in impaling rocks and stabbing plants. I never put on shoes, my feet have come to be comfortable with walking on harsh elements, …show more content…
We are kind, strong, determined, bold, and so many more. Calling out others on false actions is something we’re good at. "And now you can prove what you are; a true sister, or a traitor to your family." (Prologue.25) Antigone did not hesitate to call out Ismene, her sister, for something she strongly believed in. We are favorable at standing up for ourselves, as well as others. If I believe an issue is being handled wrongly, I would call it out as Antigone did. We believe people deserve to be treated equally; therefore we're easily approached by many people of different religions and social classes. "It is my nature to join in love, not hate!" (2.119) Antigone proves she joins in love and converses with various people through her actions. Curiosity and adventure often push around our thoughts; we tend to become determined with any notion thrown at us. We are similar through our personalities because of the
The Summary Is About Antigone Who Lost Her Brother Who Died In The War And She Wants To GIve Him The Right Burial For Her Brother. Antigone Loves Her Brother And Wants To Let The People Know That. She Lost Her Father In The War, Her Mom Hung Her Herself, And Now She Lost Her Brother Like Her Father In The War.
The play Antigone is about two brothers who kill each other in battle, one is buried one isn’t and laws are placed in order to prevent it from happening. A sister comes in to bury his brother despite the laws and risk potential death in the process. The person who put these laws into place is called Creon, who wants the person who buried the body to face justice. The sister who committed this crime is Antigone, who is also the character that I’m contrasting with Creon.
Sometimes the reason you hate someone so much is because they are so much like you. Antigone is a play by Sophocles about a tragic family that is filled with betrayal, anger, regret, and sorrowness. I have come up with some ways that Antigone is like Creon. Throughout the story there are quotes that make Antigone act just like Creon.
Creon says “Eteocles who died as a man is to be buried with full military honors, his brother Polynecies is to have no burial, no man is to touch or say a prayer for him. He shall lie on the plain unburied so the birds and dogs can do as they want. ”His niece (sister of both the brothers) decides he should be buried and Creon can kill her if he needed, she did not care. Creon decided to put her in a hole to starve to death for breaking his law. So it makes Creon the tragic hero because he was too late to save Antigone, she hanged herself, his son found out so he stabbed himself, and Creon’s wife found out about the son so, she also killed herself. Just to think he could’ve saved everyone he loved.
The story “Antigone” has a epic and tragic hero like every other story does; and what this will be about is, who represents a epic hero and why they do. In the story, the person who best represents a epic hero is Antigone; and the reason for that is, she shows exceptional amounts of compassion. Through the story, she wants for her brother to get the burial he deserves and goes through many obstacles and suffering the consequences for helping him.
Haimon and Teiresias both present strong arguments that have facts in them that oppose the execution of Antigone. Haimon refers to the citizens: “That’s not what all the citizens of Thebes are saying” (line733). He is referring to the fact that the citizens of Thebes believe that execution of Antigone is too harsh of a punishment. Teiresias speaks of a scenario that isn’t fact yet but soon will be: “A little time will test my metal, showing forth both men’s and women’s wailing cries in your own house”(line 1079). Teiresias is foretelling of the deaths Creon’s wife and son. It was a bold prediction, as there always are in fabricated plays, but it showed to be true. A common American saying is that success is determined not by how you
Although Antigone rebels against the King, she is more like Creon than she realizes. Both are aggressive, selfish and proud. Although Antigone was the main victim of the play, Creon was just the same by the end. Both of the characters bicker and show how their self-will made them more confident in their actions. With their differences, Antigone and Creon are similar in many ways.
In the drama play Antigone by Sophocles Antigone unlike Creon respects the people who surrounds her and tries doing the right thing in making sure they are safe. Creon in his own way is doing the right thing however nobody agrees with him. Antigone is not afraid of Creon she wants to do the right thing by fixing his mistakes and doing the right thing.
If a close relative wwas to ask me to do something illegal I do not know if I would do it or not. I believe that it depends on what we are doing and if it is worth it or not. In the story Antigone ismene is forced wiith a simmular perdicument. Ismene is asked by her sister Antigone to bury her late brother evven tho the king declared it was illegal. Unlike ismene I would have gone with Antigone because I think that is a legit reason to break the law, if I was asked to rob a bank by a relative I would deffinatly say no. Not even my parents would be able to convince me to doing something like
Either way, Antigone and Oedipus’ personalities make them what they are, tragic heroes, as well make them renowned for their story since they were first on the stage to now. Sharing the characteristic of pride and stubbornness, yet being completely different when it come to insight and ignorance, also compassion and being self-absorbed, Antigone and Oedipus are rather alike. Thought this might not seem important, whether make believe character are similar and different, but nearly everything in pop culture, from movies to plays are derived from works of fiction from the past. Tragic heroes exist everywhere even in modern culture for example Tiger Woods, O.J. Simpson, Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton, and Michael Jackson, etc. All people of power once loved by many but due to mistakes they losted fame, fortune, and even love; all with a tragic downfall; and all with a tragic flaw, that got them in the situation they are in or was in. All very similar yet different to the tragic heroes of the past, Antigone and
The play Antigone is about Polynices who fought Thebes to rebel against the state. So Polynices and Euydice fight and they both lose their life. Creon decides to bury Euydice because he loyal to the state and the Polynices did not get buried cause he rebel against the state. Antigone hears about what Creon decides to do and she loyal to family always so she decides to bury him against the state which is Creon. Antigone has gods on her side so they send a guy to tell Creon or scare him into changing his ways and making things right.
In the play Antigone, written by Sophocles, writes a story about how one person's action has the abilities to affect everyone around them. The main character Antigone openly admits that she dislikes how Thebes is being run. Even though she is alone on her beliefs, she strongly disagrees with Creon decisions, and wants the world to know her deeds. Antigone's deeds end in her inevitable death, but in her passing achieves her objectives. The writer uses her to show how much a single person can affect society, but also shows one must endure the sacrifice to achieve progress. Throughout the story we find the characters must stand by what they believe in and face the consequences to ensure change.
Torie Williams 1-11-16 WR 121 Antigone Questions Antigone is the eldest of the sisters, more stubborn and free. She's a lady and knows what she wants and will do what she wants to do. Ismene is more docile by nature. Young and beautiful, she is the more obedient, and less willful of the two.
Throughout Antigone, Antigone is a presented as a strong woman who is both dedicated to her family and her community. That said, there is much conflict between these two dedications. In this paper, I will give examples of Antigone’s different individual responsibilities and her philosophies and explain how those conflict with the commitment that she is to have to her community and indirectly, her king. Ultimately, I will argue that Sophocles demonstrated his values of family, the way of the gods, and doing what is right through Antigone’s response to the conflicts between her values and the commitment she is meant to have towards her community.
Antigone has been given strong characteristics in her story and because of this she does
