This is shown in the portal of Anubis, Anubis the protector of the dead, was the god associated with mummification and the afterlife. Through the association with mummification and the afterlife he was generally portrayed as a half human half-jackal form. Animals were usually also highly symbolic figures in Egyptian art, however the Egyptians did not worship animals, the animals were used as powerful symbols for the gods in which they worshiped, the use of the jackal portrayed the ideals of death. As the jackal itself was strongly associated with the cemeteries of ancient Egypt, it was a creature whose scavenging habits threatened the preservation of the body, in an effort to counter this threat and employ it for protection the jackal head was a symbol for Anubis. The distinct black colour of Anubis, was symbolic not of the jackals skin but that of rotting flesh and the fertility of the black soil of the Nile Valley which symbolized that of rebirth, as shown in the artwork below.

Ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians had two different ideas of the afterlife. Ancient Egypt celebrated the afterlife, performing burial rituals such as mummification, and ceremonies to ensure a happy and easy transition into the underworld. Egyption gods did not have as much interference with humans unlike the Mesopotamian Gods. Egyption gods ruled as pharaohs other deities such as Osiris, god of the underworld. Mesopotamian afterlife beliefs were not as joyful as ancient Egyptians. The Mesopotamians afterlife had a gloomier outlook. Most of what we know about Mesopotamian afterlife comes from the epic of Gilgamesh.

The Egyptians also worried very much about the after life and made many preparations before the afterlife. There graves were very important to them, and they also did much to keep them from decaying after they passed. That is why they had the idea of mummification to allow them to not decay long after they passed. We also pay a lot of money to allow us to keep from decaying on our burials and the coffins.

Ancient Egypt is the origin to one of the most intricate belief systems in the world. This polytheistic religion was composed of various beliefs and rituals. Polytheistic means that they believed in many deities. All of which were linked to the common theme of immortality. Religion laid the foundation for all aspects of Egyptian lives, political structure, cultural achievement and art. Their religion consisted of up 2000 gods and goddess. Only some were worshiped universally throughout Egypt. They were often represented as being half human and half animal. As an example, the Egyptian god Anubis was half man and half jackal. He is associated with mummification and the afterlife in Egyptian mythology. Egyptian religion was oriented toward people 's’ attainment of immortality signified by mummification/preservation of the dead.

Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece both believed in life after death, though the process in which they follow that belief differ greatly. The Greeks believed that at the moment of death the spirit leaves the body in the form of a little gust of wind or a puff of breath. The Greeks believed in proper burial rights that were performed in three parts, and the relatives mostly women are the ones that conduct these rituals for the deceased. Much like the modern world these rituals consist of the first step; laying out the body to be dressed, the second funeral procession, and the third step was the cremation of the body. Unlike the Greeks the Egyptians developed a process in which they prepared and preserved the dead for the afterlife, known as mummification. This process is believed to have been the purpose of the Egyptians famous pyramids, believed to be the stairs that would lead the Pharaohs to their kingdom in the afterlife. Artifacts are buried in their tombs such as gold, wine, and sculptures to accompany the dead in life after death.

Ancient Egyptian civilization was based on religion. Their belief in the rebirth after death became their driving force behind their funeral practices. Death was simply a temporary interruption, rather than an end to life, and that eternal life could be ensured by means of worship to the gods, preservation of the physical form thru mummification, substantial ceremonies and detailed burial policies and procedures. Even though many today have varying views of an afterlife, many of the funerary practices that originated in Egypt can be seen in present day funeral services.

Ptah was also a creator god who built the boats that carried the souls of the dead into the Underworld. Osiris was the ruler of the Underworld and husband to Isis, the goddess of fertility and the ideal wife. Isis’ song, Horus, was the god of the sky and depicted with a hawk-like head often portrayed with a double crown. These deities were worshipped daily by the Egyptians in temples built by the ruling pharaoh and his priests. The pharaoh was viewed as the intermediary between the deities and his people. Through his kingship and divine power, he was expected to maintain universal peace and order. Egyptians also underwent extensive and excessive processes to preserve their souls after death through tombs, mummification, and offerings to the gods for preservation of the deceased bodies (“Ancient Egyptian Religion”). The concept of life after death is rooted in ancient Egyptian religion where funerary processes and burial rituals were fundamental and crucial to an afterlife.

As part of “Dance Houston 2013”, the “Ndani” was performed on April sixth of the year two thousands and thirteen at the Wortham center. The dance executed by a group of eight young dancers, among which Otis Berry, was choreographed by Shaté Edwards. Miss Edwards has an engaged, skillful, and powerful style. Her background includes jazz, tap, stepping, modern and more. She is a Houston, Texas native, who attended college in Atlanta, Georgia, and has performed a lot in the U.S and China and has participated in numerous productions.

It all began on a Saturday during his sixth grade year for Anselem Umeh. He was watching his older brother play football and quickly was inspired by the game and amazed by the crowd reaction and engagement. “I want to do that too,” was his first thought after watching it, and that’s exactly what he did. The following year he joined a Pop Warner football team where he quickly discovered his love for the game on top of the fact that he excelled in the sport. He would soon find out that that Saturday watching his older brother play would be the beginning of an impressive football career to come.

As the Mesopotamian civilization rose up in the valley of Tigris and Euphrates, the Egyptian civilization was centered on the Nile River. The Egyptians were also a polytheistic religion, in that they believed in many gods. Egyptian Gods have human bodies, with human or animal heads, and wear crowns or thorns. Egyptian Gods were gods of different things such as the sky, sun, earth, and music. The Egyptians worship took place at small shrines; they left offerings to the chosen gods as well as simple prayers. The Egyptians believed that there afterlife was full of dangers, but those dangers could be overcame by magical spells in the Book of the Dead. Also the Egyptians believed in the preservation of the body and that it was essential for the afterlife.

The practice religion and the worship of gods and goddesses had a significant role on everyday life in Ancient Egypt. Anubis was a god who had a jackal head but was a human. He also wore a green shirt and a brown and white skirt. He also wore a gold scarf. Anubis’s responsibilities were, he helped to embalm Osiris after he was killed by Seth. Also, he watched over the process of mummifying people where they died. People would pray to Anubis because, Anubis helped with really important things. Like, he sent people to heaven. That’s the best thing people want. To go to heaven peacefully. Which is what Anubis did. Religion was important to ancient egyptian’s because, everybody wanted to go to heaven peacefully. Which again, is what Anubis did

Moreover, talking specifically about the Gods, Osiris was the one determining the good and bad, judging the everyday morality to determine if the person deserved an everlasting life (McKay, A History of Western Society, p. 23, Egyptian Religion.’’). Osiris dies by getting trapped in a box by Set, and his body is shredded by Set later in the story, Osiris ends up becoming the judger of the dead after his revive into the afterlife, and, stated just before, Osiris is revived into the underworld by Anubis for his afterlife. Osiris, being a myth of the ancient Egyptian culture, gives the supernatural explanation for death, judgement, and, most importantly, the afterlife that the Egyptian people lived
