Every human being has within him an ideal man, just as every piece of marble contains in a rough state a statue as beautiful as the one that Praxiteles the Greek made of the god Apollo.Greek myth is comprised of many Gods and Goddesses and the stories of how they came to be and of their life stories. And this is the story of the God apollo One God that caught my eye was Apollo, was associated with many aspects of life in the time of the Greek gods. Apollo’s father was Zeus, the king of the gods. Zeus, though married to Hera, had some problems with fidelity. He impregnated Leto, the daughter of a Titan. When he was four days old, he asked Hephaestus to make him silver bows and arrows. Hephaestus created them for him. Apollo was …show more content…
The reason he never got married is because all of his relationships end badly. Take Daphne for example, Apollo was joking around with Eros telling him that he was a better archer. It was not a good idea to insult the god of love. Eros decided to pull one over on Apollo. He took one of his magic golden tipped arrows and shot Apollo in the heart. He immediately fell in love with the nymph, Daphne. Apollo decided he would go after Daphne and try to win her love. That didn’t work out too well, because Eros had thought that Daphne wouldn’t be stupid enough to reject Apollo. So he shot Daphne with a lead tipped arrow, making her instantly hate Apollo. So as Apollo was chasing Daphne across the forests, Daphne ran from him because she felt a deep unprovoked hatred for him. She called to her father, a river god, for help. As she reached his shore she was instantaneity turned into a laurel tree. Apollo was deeply hurt by Daphne’s decision. She would rather be a tree than be with him. Apollo took some leaves from her and left, that’s why heroes of ancient Greece were awarded laurel leaf crowns, and why one of Apollo’s many signs was the laurel leaf.
Not all of his relationships ended badly, just most of them. Like Cassandra, she was the princess of Troy. When Apollo fell for her he promised he would teach her the art of prophecy. She pretended to be in love with him until after he taught her prophecy.

Apollo became more like his father zeus which they were both drawing to woman but unlike his father Apollo always want more. At it said in this ancient greek quote “ Once, a long, long time ago, all people had four legs and two heads. And than the gods threw down thunderbolts and split everyone into two. Each half then had two legs and one head. But the separation left both sides with a desperate yearning to be reunited. Because they each shared the same soul. And ever since then, all people spend their lives searching for the other half of their soul.” And in that quote my intention was that i felt that quote may have describe what apollo was yearning to have which was love. As may of us in modern day life may also be searching for , and it is also believed that gods were just like mortals with the same humanity as some but just immortal forever. In the eyes of ancient Greek mythology the gods are depicted so much like us. In which we share Pain and love, hand in
In The Odyssey, Penelope and Odysseus have this strong, kind, and sweet love. They are separated for twenty years, but they both stay faithful to one another, even though Odysseus meets these two beautiful and enchantress goddess, and Penelope's suitors trying to marry her ( she never dreams of marrying one of them). When Odysseus comes back from fighting in Troy that lasted for ten years, Penelope-the perfect mate for the wily Odysseus-uses caution and test him. She takes Odysseus back because he knows something only those two know.
He is unfaithful to his wife the during the journey, having affair with multiple women, although he claims that ”‘[…] the gods brought me to the island Ogygia, where Kalypso lives, with ordered hair, a dread goddess, and she received me and loved me excessively and cared for me, and she promised to make me an immortal and all my days to be ageless, but never so could she win over the heart within me. (Homer 254-258) He is basically saying in this quote that he did have an affair with Kalypso, so he was still faithful to Penelope in his heart. I don’t really agree with his reasoning because even though he his heart never said yes, he still did not fight back. This was one of his many affairs
Zeus was known for a number of things, but his love affairs was one of the numerous things he was famous for. Zeus was the king of all the gods, he was known for the god of the skies, weather, fate and laws. Out of all of his lovers he had over the years, his first was known as Aphrodite. She was the goddess of beauty and was followed by Zeus when she first emerged from the great sea, but she managed to escape him. It did not take much time for Zeus’ wife Hera to realize that their marriage was falling into the deep end. Zeus had a deep lust which then made Hera’s jealousy fester. (Summary 1).
Apollo apparel was attractive to women. Apollo was beardless, athletic, and had a youthful appearance. Apollo is the god of music, poetry, prophecy, and medicine. He is also known as "the healer." Apollo was called the healer because he represents the healing aspect of the medical arts.
Five Greek Gods in Roman Religion and Their Traits. Zeus (Jupiter): Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, was adopted into Roman religion as Jupiter. Both Zeus and Jupiter are associated with thunder and lightning, symbolizing their supreme power and authority. Although Odysseus was going through tough times, he never thought of getting into a relationship and remained loyal to his wife. With this the mighty slayer of Argus departed, and the lovely Nymph, mindful of Zeus’ command, looked for valiant Odysseus. She found him sitting on the shore, his eyes as ever wet with tears, life’s sweetness ebbing from him in longing for his home, since the Nymph no longer pleased him. He was forced to sleep with her in the hollow cave at night, as she wished though he did not, but by day he sat among rocks or sand, tormenting himself with tears, groans and anguish, gazing with wet eyes at the restless sea. (BK V 148-191)
She offered him a child named Merida. He accepted the offer made by Hera and told her he would find out what happen to Zeus and where he was. After some time the Oracle, that was frightened, told Hera that nothing happen with Zeus, he was just with a new lover named Diana, close to Punta Cana.
Greek mythology is a subject that has fascinated humans for millennia, that has inspired numerous books and movies alike. While the family tree of the Gods is a huge, and slightly confusing article of notice, full of many characters, both monstrous and beatific, two siblings are worth noting more so than others. Apollo and Artemis, twin siblings of the moon and sun, patron of archers, have been a subject of fascination for historians and mythology fans alike. These siblings have been known as both ruthless and fair on many occasions in Greek literature and are believed by some to be the most influential characters of the Ancient Greece. While they have been viewed as equal in importance, there are some key differences that make Artemis superior
When Hephaestus was born Zeus and Hera were in an argument. Heras anger built up and she grabbed Hephaestus by the leg and threw him off Mount Olympus. Hera said that he was the most appalling child she had and that she wanted nothing to do with him. Therefore, for nine days and nine nights he fell from Mount Olympus to the seas. He was then brought up by Thetis and Eurynome. Thetis was the god of the sea and the leader of all fifty Nereides. She was married to Peleus who was chosen for her. Eurynome was the third wife of Zeus and she actually caught him as he was falling from Mount Olympus. The two gods raised the boy and taught him all the skills he needed to know. Especially what it take to be an amazing artist. This incident made Hephaestus have to walk with a walking stick. As Hephaestus grew up he became the father of Blacksmiths. Hephaestus developed armor for Archillies, who was in the Trojan War, and many more accessories. Due to the amount of work he did, he always had crud on his clothing. The dirt on his clothing proved his hard work. The act of being a craftsman met a lot to
Penelope is the wife of Odysseus who is the king of Ithaca. When Odysseus is called off to the Trojan War Penelope shows great faithfulness and wit. She stays faithful to her husband and waits for him for twenty years. This shows strong internal will and love for only one man, her husband, Odysseus. During this time, many different suitors tried to court her and offered marriage proposals. She shows great wit
Apollo, the ninth Olympian, rules over a multitude of things including archery, the arts, truth, prophecy, healing, light, and so much more. Mythologically, he is described as being filled with contradictions in a way that mirrors the complexity of the human condition. Apollo is both ruthless and kind, gentle and merciless, guilty and guiltless. With that said, Apollo may be the most “human” of the Olympians, constantly having differing views based on different situations. Apollo, through his mirroring of the human condition, also somewhat mirrors certain aspects of humanity’s wishes, satisfactions, and fears through his failed attempts at true connection with others and the various competitions and contests thrown because of Apollo.

Aphrodite was known for having many love affairs. She had an arranged marriage, set up by Zeus, with Hephaestus, the ugliest of the gods. Her true love was Ares, the god of war and violence. Hephaestus knew of the affair and to get back at her, he humiliated her in front of all the gods by setting a trap for the lovers. When the two were about to make love, they were scooped up into a net where all the gods could witness her betrayal. Ares and Aphrodite conceived many children: Eros being the most famous. He is also known as Cupid. (“Aphrodite History”)
The Greek god Hephaestus also known as Hephaistos he was the god of fire and blacksmith for the gods. He was responsible for creating some of the greatest weapons and armor for some of the Greek gods some of which include Achilles’ shield and Hermes helmet. Although making weapons wasn’t the only thing that he did. As the Greek god of fire he was also represented as a craftsmen and artisans which meant that he also created art. As you know all gods have their stories and for Hephaestus his as well and has many different ones about his life but most of them are the same so I will share two different stories from two different sources.
In Greek Mythology, perhaps one of the most rudimental yet one of the most important elements are the Greek Gods and Goddesses. The ancient Greeks created the stories about the lives and journeys of the Greek Gods, known as myths, simply as an endeavor to elucidate nature and all phenomena which were difficult to explain using modern science and logic. These myths about the Gods were spread around the world by explorers and storytellers, and later merged with Greek religion. To this day, numerous myths survived through many writings and through much art. Each of these myths is very unique, and moreover, tells us much about the Greek Gods. The Greek myths in particular convey to us that Greek Gods and Goddesses looked and acted like humans,
