Ayaan Hirsi Ali was born in Mogadishu, Somalia where she spent her early childhood years living with her mother, brother, sister, and grandmother. Her father at that time was in prison. Although he does escape prison and ends up living in Ethiopia for a while before moving to Saudi Arabia. When he moves to Saudi Arabia his family eventually moves there to join him.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali was raised in a strict Muslim family. She has endured civil war, female mutilation, brutal beatings, and a life of moving from one troubled country to another country that were both unstable and ruled by dictators.
Application of Ecological System Theory

Protective factors. There aren’t a lot of protective factors for Ayaan Hirsi Ali within her microsystem. One protective factor that I found involved her sister. Ayaan’s sister would try to help her learn what was appropriate and what wasn’t in their culture. By doing this her sister was trying to help her stay out of trouble or in this case to keep the number of times she was beaten to a minimum.
Later on in her life she went to Germany to visit relatives while waiting for her visa to go to Canada. It is then that she decides to run away after remembering the story a friend told her about how her and her husband traveled together and become refugees in Holland. So she gets a train ticket to Amsterdam. She was aware of the risk that this could either be a start to a better life or a miserable one if her application is denied.

In this paper, I will be talking about how an individual develops throughout their life and the many changes they go through while still maintain the skills they’ve learned. Human Development is very important for a person’s emotional and physical growth. In this paper, I will be discussing Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Model, providing examples of Mesosystem, Ecosystem, and Microsystems. Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development and Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Reasoning will be addressed by giving examples of what stage of cognitive development Harry shows and what stages of Kohlberg’s theory he represents. This paper will further the understanding of the different developments a person goes through to reach their fullest potential of
The Ecological Systems Theory was founded by Urie Bronfenbrenner. This theory focuses on the impact of the environment on a child’s overall development. The identifying characteristics of Bronfenbrenner’s theory are the five systems used to organize external influences within a child’s development. These systems are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Each system is aligned with specific interaction levels. The microsystem is considered to be the most intimate of the levels, in which development is dependent on the immediate environment. The immediate environment would include adults, peers, and siblings with influence to learning new behaviors and the environment in which the

Ecological models can answer many questions regarding hypotheses, ecosystem parts and their functions (Marewski & Schooler, 2011). My ecological model was very standard for my teenage years (McWhirter, 2017). I was the first of four children and lived in Ohio, growing up during the ‘60s and ‘70s. We were an average American family living in an average suburb. We all had bicycles and went on bike rides all the time. In the summer, we would ride to the swimming pool in our town. In the summer, we did the book clubs at our library and we always had something to do together with our friends (McWhirter, 2017).
The old African proverb ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child’ (Mohamed, 1996, p. 57) rings significantly through Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory (Bronfenbrenner and Evans 2000); a theory which focuses on gaining insight into human development through identifying the circumstances and considering the environmental influences of which a child is raised not just the genetic components.
To begin, Muhammad Ali was born in a life where his parents knew he would accomplish great things. Ali was born on January 17th, 1942, in Louisville Kentucky. According to, the book, The Importance Of Muhammad Ali, his father said that Ali, ”Came into this world with a good body and a big head, that was the image of Joe Louis. That made me real proud, I loved Joe Louis.” Ali was known as a leader, even
Discuss Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory and how it applies to the plight of children in the European migrant crisis
There, she feared leaving her home because of crime in her neighborhood, thus she almost always stayed in her home. This is one of many reasons why people immigrate to the U.S. However, since they are illegal, they are often sent back, with the U.S government ignorant of what exactly they’re sending them back to. To illustrate, Martine Kalaw wrote about the time she was almost deported in her article “America Should Think Hard About Deporting Illegal Immigrants Like Me”. The immigration judge had threatened Kalaw with deportation by sending her to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he thought she belonged. What he may not have (or may have) knew was that the DRC was violating human rights, such as the systematic rape of women especially in Eastern Congo, and war was also taking place in the DRC at that time. Another example is with Syrian refugees recently coming into the U.S, raising debate about letting them stay. But what people who are against the idea don’t seem to realize that sending those refugees back will send them to a country that is currently in a brutal war between a terrorist group and Syrian rebel militias, hence, the reason the refugees fled in the first
Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali born Dutch politician, was raised as a devote Muslim. She then fled from an arranged to Holland. She attended university, learned to speak Dutch, and converted to atheism with the same devotion she once had for her Muslim faith. Hirsi Ali eventually won a seat in the Dutch parliament.
I had the opportunity to interview Mohammed Iman. Mohammed is a 32-year-old originally from Somalia, who moved to the United States 5 years ago, to be with his wife. Before moving to The United States, Mohammed was living and attending school in Egypt. Mohammed has lived, what he describes, a very fulling life, with an optimistic future. His story is one of love, compassion, and resilience.
We know Aaliyah Dana Haughton as Aaliyah singer, songwriter, and actress. Aaliyah was born in Brooklyn NY on January 16, 1979 to her parents Diane Hankerson and Michael Haughton. Later the family moved to Detroit, Michigan where Aaliyah was raised and later graduated from Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts in 1997 with a 4.0 GPA. (the biography.com website)
Developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner first introduced the Ecologicial Systems model in the 1970’s. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in which the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems model concentrically depicts how a person’s development is influenced by their wider environment. In the original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979 Bronfenbrenner added an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing person in the centre, the five progressive levels of environment include the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem and the chronosystem.
During the devastating time of World War II, a Jewish teenage girl wrote a diary about the gruesome events she witnessed, this diary was named, Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank. Anne Frank lived in Holland and went into hiding when her sister, Margot, got a letter to go to a reception camp. The Franks faced terrifying moments during hiding. They witnessed war outside their window and stayed in the same house without even going outside for about two years. To add on, the Franks had to keep in mind how every day they could be arrested or even die. Sadly Anne and her family are arrested and are sent to Auschwitz, a concentration camp where she would later die. While in hiding, the Franks and the Van Daans, who were also in hiding with them,
The ecological theory of development that was proposed by Urie Bronfenbrenner (1917-2005), is relevant to state all of our lives. Bronfenbrenner’s research demonstrates how our development is affected by the environment in which we live. The model consist of five major systems; microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. "Ecological systems theory is an approach to study of human development that consists of the scientific study of the progressive, mutual accommodation, throughout the life course, between an active, growing human being, and the changing properties of the immediate settings in which the developing person lives, as this process is affected by the relations between these settings, and by the larger
