Unless you have been living under a rock, there is a good chance you have participated in or watched sports sometime throughout your existence on Earth. Whether you play everyday or every so often, or even if you don't play at all, sports affect your life in one way or another. Not only do you get exercise while playing sports, but they can help you in more ways than one. This may be a challenge to digest in your currently curvy stomach, but sports can actually help with improving your grades too. Participating in sports can also promote sportsmanship. Sports are beneficial for the youth because they can improve your grades as well as promoting sportsmanship.
First of all, when kids play sports it can positively influence his/her grades. A study conducted in Michigan has proven that children who have participated in sports have prominent academic aspirations and are more driven than children that don't participate in sports (Are High School Sports Good For Kids?). Not to mention the scholarships you can get by partaking in sports. Injury is a big reason many parents prevent their children from participating in sports. The sport that has the most injuries has got to be football. A study by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that boys aged 10-14 were most likely to end up in the nation’s emergency departments with a traumatic brain injury ( High School, College Football Comes With Risk). Football although has the most injuries isn’t the only sport. Soccer, basketball and even baseball can have players injured for majority of the season. Are sports beneficial or detrimental to youth? Why and how? When and where? A lot of questions have been asked either by parents or by other people who are doing this type of research. Although the physical exercise provided by sports is essential, there are many other benefits both immediate and long-term. Some state that it gives children an opportunity to play Sports and interact with other children and form social bonds and relationships but along with that it is beneficial but from the research I looked at and my own opinion, I feel that most children drop out or do not play because of lack of interest or other reasons.
Injuries are one of the top reasons why sports are bad for kids. In the video we watched from WCPO called “Pressure On Teen Athletes Sore” they say that the amount of injuries have increased from 7 Thousand to 22 Thousand a year. The amount tripled. Also with sports that helps me is you don’t get time to procrastinate because if I know I have a game tomorrow and I have a big essay do the day after that I will do it tonight because I know I can’t do it after the game. This proves again that sports truly do help are kids in school.

Some people might argue that students in sports or extracurricular activities have lower grades than the other students, but it's the opposite way around. Sports improve your performance in school because they strengthen your concentration ability and leadership traits.
Playing sports or even having the knowledge of them can result into happier and more social students. In the video Notebook: Kids and Sports, Katie Couric states, “Playing sports cannot only give kids more confidence, it can also give them more rewarding friendships” (Notebook). This implies that our school can be more successful if we have greater variety of sports kids can join. Although being happier and more social isn't the only benefit of being in sports.
Young children having major physical injuries while participating in sports should be of more concern. Sure some Schools have a minimum G.P.A requirement of 2.0, and to get that all your classes have to be “C” or better. Well that’s better than letting them have a 1.0 and letting them play.
