Pork chops might look good on your dinner plate, but do you really know what you are eating? Pigs are where we get pork chops. There are many things that happen to these pigs for us to have something as simple as pork chops. Some things are just cruel, and some are just unbelievable, but it's true. Of course there are the benefits and the risks, but which one weighs more? This is what you decide.
To start off with, pigs need fifty square feet to live a healthy lifestyle, but in most pig farms in the US, pigs only receive about only twenty square feet if they are in good conditions. Most mother pigs spend majority of their lives crammed into metal cages. After mother pigs give birth, then they are moved into cages only big enough to nurse their young, but too small for them to turn over. Once the piglets are about one month old, they are torn from their mothers and crammed in a room filled with other piglets. Male piglets get their testicles cut out when they are only ten days old. Pigs live in harsh crammed conditions. They are forced to live in their own feces and vomit. Genetically manipulated by enzymes, pigs grow faster than normal. Pigs are fed grains and seed oil to hire their omega six level which also causes them to also grow at dangerously high levels. Americans eat

Pork chops come with the good and the bad. Something about how pork chops are produced is that the pigs live in harsh conditions, and the food production affects the environment greatly creating many issues. There is also the risk of cancer, heart disease, and bacterial infection through overconsumption. Some good things about the consumption of this type of food are that we obtain many different macromolecules like carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. Pork chops may have its benefits, but it also comes with risks. Hopefully, in the future, there will be better solutions to these problems we face today like overconsumption and environmental
In his article “Boss Hog: The Dark Side of America’s Top Pork Producer,” (Rolling Stone Magazine, December 14, 2006) Jeff Teitz reports that not only are millions upon millions of pigs being abused and slaughtered each year by America’s largest pork producer, but, in turn, the waste produced by those pigs is polluting, destroying, and even killing others. Teitz begins by revealing that Smithfield Foods, the world’s most profitable pork processor, killed 27 million hogs last year, which is roughly equivalent to the entire human populations of America’s thirty-two largest cities. As Teitz delves deeper into statistics, he explains that more fecal matter is produced from half a million pigs at one Smithfield subsidiary than the 1.5 million
In chapter four, it is said that from colonial times to the 1950’s when it was overtaken by beef, pork was the major source of meat for Americans. Pioneers kept hogs as free-range animals that foraged for their food. Corn-fed pigs grew faster and bigger, so it was common practice to round up surplus hogs and corn-feed them in the weeks before they went to market (value is weight-based). In 1818, the first meatpacking plant in Cincinnati was opened and became the dominating entity in pork production until the civil war,
Most of the pigs raised in the U.S. live on large scale factory farms where they are overcrowded and treated inhumanely. At an extremely young age, piglets are stolen from their mothers and placed in crowded, windowless pens. Due to being jampacked, the piglets do not have much range of motion and are constantly laying in their own waste material. This can cause extreme irritation so they begin biting each others tails, causing farmers to rip off their tails and teeth without a sedative to ease the pain. Most sows in the U.S.
We haven’t always endured the dramatic effect of these ghastly creatures. Around three hundred years ago the Spaniards, during their explorations introduced the hogs to Texas. The hogs were intended for sustenance and lard for the new settlers here in America. During the fight for Texas’s independence the hogs were left unattended and managed to escape their encasements. That being said, the hogs began reproducing at an alarming rate; now the feral hog
It used to be very common just to eat any meat we pick up from our local grocery store such as Walmart or Target, but with this upcoming millennial generation’s new lifestyle expectations, people are starting to care more about what they consume and how they treat their body. It is important to understand where the food that is being put in your body is coming from and whether or not it is really what you think. Most people understand that eating meat is healthy and good for you always, but the manner in which the animals the meat is being produced from are raised affects the way it tastes and how it either damages or helps the body. I personally believe that people should eat humane meat because it is much safer for the human body due to it
Pigs are one of the most similar animals to humans, and can be analyzed to learn about the organ systems of the body. Both pigs and humans are mammals, omnivores, furless and featherless, and their fetuses receive nutrients from their mothers through the umbilical cord as they develop (Field). These
It is important to know the history of “The Three Little Pigs.” As Sutcliffe explains, the story started out as a nursery tale, almost identically to the way it is told today. Around the beginning of the 1900, Grimm printed the story The Wolf and the Seven Little Little Kids. This story is not the exact same as “The Three Little Pigs”, however, it has many parallels. The fact that the story was taken away from the german author, explains why it focuses on family and nature. The personification of the pigs would come from Grimm’s aspect of adding nature. The family of the three pigs (although two die) shows the differences that can occur within a family and how one way is can be better. THE TRUE STORY OF THE THREE LITTLE PIGS by A. Wolf published
Have you ever wanted a pet that was intelligent, adorable, affordable, and healthy? They are pigs! One reason, their food is
Factory farms have abused these animals in way that is so horrific, it is not often revealed to the public what really goes on inside these “farms.” Animals such as chickens are shoved together into battery cages to the point where they are unable to move. Their beaks are cut off without anesthesia, and they are propelled with antibiotics and excessively fed for the purpose of making their breasts larger quickly. The excessive feeding makes their bodies grow unnaturally and disproportionally – causing heart failure, respiratory troubles, chronic pain, and leg weakness; after a hen’s egg production reduces at a certain age, the bird will be shocked into its final laying cycle and then be sent to slaughter to be used as food scraps – if they are not already killed on-farm. As for mother pigs, they spend up to four months in gestation crates with only limited mobility during their pregnancy. "Her piglets are
They are successful invaders due to their high adaptability to novel environments (McClure et al 2015; Michel et al 2017) and food sources (Stolle et al 2015). Wild pigs also have a high reproductive rate, with females averaging 5.6 fetuses in Saskatchewan (Koen et al. 2018), though it is important to note that this value is from a small sample size and was not determined to be statistically significant (Koen et al. 2018). It is however the only estimation of wild pig reproductive rate available in Canada. High birth rate plus a quick gestation period that allows pigs to potentially breed at least twice a year (Bieber & Ruf 2005), coupled with the fact that wild pigs have no natural predators in Canada, population growth and expansion is inevitable. Pigs are known to be carriers and transmitters of a number of diseases like swine brucellosis, pseudorabies, and Escherichia coli (Michel et al 2017). All of which pose potential health risks for not only livestock and wildlife but humans as well. Second, it is well established that wild pigs contribute to the billions of dollars in agricultural damage done by invasive species in the United States each year (McClure et al 2015). While claims of reported crop damage in Canada associated with wild pigs has been minimal to this point, the ever expanding populations all but ensure that crop damage claims will increase
Pigs are unable to move in their cages. The baby pig ears, tails are cut off and their teeth are chopped off to prevent them from harming other pigs. They are castrated without any pain killer. The baby pigs are given antibiotics to promote rapid growth. Their body grows, so fast, the legs become crippled. Many pigs are ill, but are kept alive to be shipped off to slaughter to get a profit. The pigs that did not make it to slaughter are shot with a gun to prevent them from eating the farmer’s feed. Pigs are abused by beating them with a gate rod to be moved from one place to another. Most pigs arrive at the slaughter lame or dead from the crowdedness during transporting. Pigs are electrically shocked to move on the killing floor of the slaughtering
Bacon is a very nutritious food. It is soaked in healthy fat that is helpful in preventing heart disease1. It is also a great source of protein. Protein is one of the essentials of life, without protein, we would all have inadequate diets. This combo of fat and protein is great for your health and the taste is said to be "amazing”. If people ate more bacon then we could send the other cuts of meat to needy countries and feed the
The wild Boar came solely from domestic stock brought to North America by the european settlers and explorers. Hernando de Soto ‘the true father of the pork industry brought the first pigs to america in 1539. As pig herds grew….the explorers used the pigs for eating fresh meat and for salt and preserved pork as well. Also the american indians were so fond of the taste of the pork that they also tried attacking the people which resulted in the most assaults on their expedition. Some of the methods of control Included some heavy wires and posts were used to keep the pigs out of people's areas. Electrical fencing was a common thing used here but it was difficult to maintain over large areas. When the pig population begins to increase people began to use the cage traps which is the most effective
Sunday my mother fried some pork chops, and pork chops are one of my favorite fried food with corn and rice. I started to feel so weak inside and yearning for it, but my mother
In addition, the eating of dead animal corpses is not as healthy as eating a plant based diet. For example, meat is high in saturated fat, which raises blood cholesterol. High cholesterol increases the risk of heart disease. Meats are high in sodium as well and consuming high amounts of
