Motherhood is a choice you make every day, to put someone else's happiness and benefit ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you're not sure what the right thing is, and to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong. Being a mother is one of the most blessed and the most challenging job in the world. Giving birth to a new life and making it walk through the new world holding its hands showing a good trail and being the best example you can be. My aunt had her first baby when she was 19. There occurs so many miscarriages and deaths during a pregnancy. When she was first pregnant she lost her child. They did not know why this kept happening repeatedly over and over. In that one hour was driving time so when her and her husband reported to the hospital she had her baby in 20 minutes. There was no time for an epidural and he just came right out. When Robyn was telling me about her labor she said that it didn’t really affect her all that much she was more in shock. In the delivery room she had her husband and her mom. Robyn had a healthy baby and was in the hospital for a total of 2 days. She now has 3 healthy growing kiddos and is looking forward to still building her family. Amberlee had her first child when she was 24. Her baby was not planned it was just a surprise but it was a happy one. She was willing to give up people in her life and make her child her number one priority. When Amberlee was pregnant she didn’t have many problems but her main problem was she had gestational diabetes. Women can help control gestational diabetes by eating healthy foods, exercising and, if necessary, taking medication. In gestational diabetes, blood sugar usually returns to normal soon after delivery. But if you've had gestational diabetes, you're at risk for type 2 diabetes. However, after her pregnancy she was lucky to not be at risk with diabetes. Amberlee had her baby at 40 weeks, she was full term and had an adorable baby boy. Her doctors were located in Cedar city so when she went into labor with her baby they were on their way as quick as they could be. When they arrived at the hospital in Cedar she was admitted in. Amber wanted to
It is more substantial than ever, to honor through words as well as through actions, that the right of women is to access their complete reproductive health choices with the dignity they deserve. Abortion is an effective individual decision within the health care field, and it’s a choice that should ultimately be appropriate for every woman who might not be physically, mentally, and economically capable enough of bringing a child into the world. “Though women have been endowed with the gift of bearing a life form, an abortion gives them the option whether they want to avail the present or not” (Finer and Joanna). Therefore, abortion should not be prohibited because it’s a reproductive right, and it reduces the numbers of homeless babies, and might reduce the crime rates.
Women have been alienated from their rights as workers and citizens but also have been deprived from fulfilling their roles as wives and mothers because they don’t have political representation. The concept of militant motherhood explains that because women have been alienated from almost all their rights their will to thrive as mothers has motivated them to demand the equal rights they deserve. Therefore women united their collective identities as wives and mothers and demanded the political representation they deserved as citizens (Richard Stahler-Sholk et al, 145). This concept operates within women’s social movements because since they all share one collective identity regardless of what they are demanding they are all interconnected by
There are many risks associated with parental-age; including the increased likelihood of being pregnant with multiples, high blood pressure, hypertension and gestational diabetes. Consequently, these risks can cause the premature delivery of a baby with a low-birth weight (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2015; March of Dimes 2017; Evidence Based Birth 2017). Women aged 40 are also susceptible to have a 51% chance of a spontaneous miscarriage and are two and-a-half times as likely to have a stillborn baby (Birth Injury Justice.org 2017); compared to a 22 year old with 8.7% (Birth Injury Justice.org 2017; Evidence Based Birth 2017). The miscarriage rates are higher in older women as they occur within the half of the first trimester due to genetic problems including Down syndrome; as 1 in 53 at the age of 40 have a baby with a genetic disorder, compared to 1 in 1064 at 25 (Evidence Based Birth 2017).
Every year, approximately 4 million babies are born in the United States. This means that every year, approximately 8 million breasts are swollen with Mother Nature's own ambrosia, ready to start our children down the path to a healthy and well-adjusted life. Having a child is the most natural thing in the world to most women. Breast feeding is the the most healthy food for a newborn child. It prevents a wide range of illnesses as well as helps the mother feel better after birth. So why not breastfeed your new born? Although many people believe that breast feeding puts undue stress on a new mother, ultimately, as a mother, you will be responsible for every single feeding that your child experiences. Sure, it is true that you can pump the
Describing her child's birth she'd experience, I had the privileges to interview Jakedra Hightower, who is a mother of a 3 year old boy name. Ms. Hightower, explained her stages and different procedures it took to deliver her baby boy. During her first stage (The first stage begins when you start having contractions that cause progressive changes in your cervix and ends when your cervix is fully dilated) she stated that she was on her way to the grocery store, and soon as she sat in her car, intolerable contractions inevitably rushed through her body. She then stated, ''I was very fortunate that I didn't actually leave my house. I don't know what I would of done if I was on the road with my severe contractions.'' When she arrived at the hospital
Motherhood is everything dreams are made of, and yet at the same time nothing that is anticipated.
Everyone knows that being a mother is not and easy job, especially those who have the right to be called “mother”. Women who are gifted with the miracle of giving birth are gifted too with an enormous job of guiding a person’s life. Moms are always known for being there always, breaking the obstacles with their sons and making them learn from their own mistakes. Being a mom is a hard work and sometimes they suffer from abuse from their sons or family members for just wanting the best for them.
She needed to see the doctor about the C-section and stated that if she could have an epidural she would try and deliver the child naturally, if it didn 't work (like with her first child) she would want the C-section.
Louise was a nulliparous woman in her thirties who had no pregnancy complications and nothing sinister in her medical history, so she was classed as “low risk” and she was 7 days over her estimated due date. Louise came on to the delivery suite and my mentor and I were looking after her throughout her labour, her partner was away at work so Louise only had us for support.
Surprisingly, an emergency C-section was not needed to deliver the baby because Payne was somehow able to respond to her husband telling her to push even though she was sleeping.
A mother is one who has endless love for her children. She serves as a protector, a provider, and a friend to say the least. She is selfless. She makes sacrifices. All in the name of protecting and providing for what she knows is her most precious gift from God. Many would agree that being a mother is the hardest but most rewarding job a women will ever have. Hardest because this world has established many barriers for mothers; logistical, social, and political.
Abortion has always been an incredibly controversial topic. It has been one of the most widely discussed issues in the American culture for decades. Abortion is a discussion of human interaction, in which emotions, ethics, and law all come together. In many cases, people on both sides of the argument have valid points and take moral positions. A pro-choice position would assert that the decision to terminate a pregnancy lies the mother and that the government has no right to interfere or step in and make that decision. On the other hand, the position of pro-life advocates argue that life begins at the moment of conception. They believe that because the embryo or fetus is a human life and that one has no moral right to abort it. This theory argues that this human has no power or say in the matter and is rendered helpless from advocating for itself. Although abortion is a morally and emotionally charged issues, it is ultimately protected under the 14th amendment. The most common reasons for abortion include but are not limited to, teen pregnancy, rape, and health issues.
I will never forget the moment my labor began, the moment that marked that step in my journey into motherhood. I can remember everything about it so clearly. My mom, fiancé, and I woke up early Friday morning to make our way to Western Missouri Medical Center. I stood in front of the mirror looking at my belly knowing it would be my last time standing in that bathroom with my baby inside of me still. It was a bittersweet moment that I cherished as long as I possibly could. I was set to be induced that morning and very excited, yet a little bit nervous. I had no idea what to expect. I’d been waiting a very long 37 weeks to finally meet this precious human that had been growing inside me. I had ideas of what he might look like, and what the experience might be like, however nothing could have prepared me for what was in store over the next few days.
Mother: I have a case of moderate arthritis from playing tennis and gardening, so my doctors were concerned about my body's ability to carry the pregnancy to full term and handle the full ordeal of the delivery. The birth of our child took a long time. I was in labor for nearly four days. We hired a lovely midwife who has specialized knowledge in handling special births, but after the second day, we decided to load me up in the car and head for the hospital. It was frightening, I suppose, but I also felt a clarity of purpose. I really wanted this baby and I knew that the baby's best chance and my best chance for survival was for me to stay calm and coherent as possible, for the sake of my family.
Many different aspects of life characterize motherhood. Traditions along with society influence the role of motherhood. Carol Stacks' "All our Kin," is an essay about the "structuring of kin groups" (1974, p.47). In the society, if the mother is not mature enough to raise the child, a close female relative takes on the role of the mother; whereas, the man has the option of choosing to claim the child and take on the responsibilities of fatherhood or he can imply that the father could be anyone, which is a socially acceptable reason. Ruth Horowitz' "The Expanded Family and Family Honor," portrays a Mexican Family as a "nuclear family unit" within an "expanded family" (1983, p.64). After marriage, motherhood is an expected
