While I understand the points given by both writers, I personally believe that screen time on today's technologies is a great resource that we should always take advantage of. It is very true that a lot of time is wasted on our phones and other media devices, but if we can learn to not be completely dependent on technology and use it as a tool then it can advance the human race far beyond our imagination. If a child has an issue with health or maturing issues, it makes sense for the parent or gaurdian to set restraints, but placing an all-out limit on such powerful tools can prevent your child from getting the education that is now available to him or her. Many people, adults included, use various forms of digital media as an escape from
Most children today have access to devices such as television, smartphones, computers, and tablets. These devices can be used in a variety of ways, with both positive and negative outcomes. For example, preschool aged children may use a device to learn letters, numbers, or colors. School aged children may use a computer to conduct research, or watch an educational show. A child may also sit in front of the television for many hours, reducing physical activity, and become obese. I believe it is important for the parent or caregiver of the child to monitor the amount of screen time, as well as the content to optimize the benefits these devices can offer.
Technology has been part of our daily live more frequently than before. Screen time has been more popularly used on kids and adolescents. On a daily bases many kids seem to spend more time inside on their tablets, instead of having to spend time with other kids. This is a problem that is becoming more popular over the years,on whether kids need to spend that much time on technology or not. Parents either seem to have strict technology usage, or they either don’t. There has always been a huge controversy with experts, who either think that screen time is beneficial or could cause problems later on in life. There are many views towards this topic, from hurting kids brains, to helping them during school, and socially.
Now, many of us may know a parent that hands their child a tablet or phone to keep their child busy so they can do their own work. Well, this has a very negative consequence on the child because just like alcohol, drugs, and gambling, items such as electronic devices that may seem harmless at first, can actually be very obsessive. These devices are so chronic and habitual that you tend to get isolated from the real world, and since you aren’t managing to do any physical exercise or movement, this could possibly result as a physical handicap. Parents don’t realize this is an issue until their child faces actual circumstances. Technology does not only have negatively influenced physical effects, but it also has a psychological impact. The overuse of electronic devices may cause impairment in the development of a child’s social skills. This includes the ability of to make friends, talking to others in a respectful and polite manner, displaying good behavior, and controlling temper and emotions. A child who uses technology extensively can become socially isolated which can lead to many other things such as loneliness, low self-esteem and low self-worth, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. In every child’s life, their childhood is the most crucial part of their _________ journey. It's that time of life where whatever a child learns, that learning will continue on and affect their on-going future. The negative things will misguide them from a very young age, and same goes for these children that use technology
Statistics show that screen time negatively affects children’s learning abilities and development. “The effects of so much screen time can include speech delays, aggressive behavior and obesity.” (Lavey) Since parents play a role in how much television their kids can watch, they can minimize the chances of their brains not developing correctly. “The first 2 years of life are considered a critical time for brain development. TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” (Kids Health) Children do
1.I think that in the “Blame Society, Not the Screen Time”, “How to regulate your child’s use of technology at every age”, and “Don’t limit your teen’s screen time”, the same thing they talk about Why people need to limit teenager live in a digital-only world. The difference that Boyed claims that the culprit is society, learn and decompress instead of the screen time. However, Bergman mentions that even though he did not limit his children’s screen time, his children are more active than his nephew who is restricted by parents. And Young describes that “How to regulate your child’s use of technology at every age”, and she shows that recommends guide about how people should regulate children’s technology use.
Although children spend about seven hours a day on tech devices, parents should not limit how much time children spend on tech devices. Children should not be limited because some children only comminicate through these devices, some children use teir devices for educational reason, and some children only know how to enternain themselves through their devices. If a child is limited on their devices, they will rush and mess up and there is no clue how nuts that child will go.
When it comes to children spending time infront of screens such as tv's, tablets, I pads, cell phones and video games it can be a difficult argument for parents. Parents can widely dissagree on their perspectives. Making this a difficult topic for them to come to solution on.
Adults constantly tell young adults and children that the growing technology is not healthy, but in "The Digital Parent Trap," the author, Eliana Dockterman, writes about how she thinks it actually helps people to learn and grow. In the beginning ot the essay, she talks about how people believe technology is negative. For example, she states that there is an, "aversion to sitting kids in front of screens, thanks to decades of studies proving that watching too much TV can lead to obesity, violence and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder" (Dockterman). This led me to believe she was against the excessive use of technology, but later, she wrote, "early tech use has cognitive benefits" (Dockterman).
All in all, children spend too many hours behind an electronic device, 'frying their brains.' However if we would be to impose time limits for our children, it would be benificiary to their depression, developement, and
When it comes to how much personal screen time I use throughout the day, the time varies between 8 to 10 hours per day. Doing some research, if I don't make a change I can develop dry eye syndrome. Being that I'm taking a six classes total, three of them online, it's merely impossible to veer away from the computer screen. Moreover, my physicality has deterred and I'm starting to have concise aces towards my lower body. Also I feel that my creativity has been slightly demolished, and I'm subconsciously turning into this robotic figure. With this noticeably haggard look on my face, I totally understand that this amount of screen time is healthy for me physically and mentally.
Technological advances have placed technology into the hands of our children at an unexpectedly young age. For some reasons, such as education, technology can be a good thing. those children who use technology for this purpose can have incredible advantages over their peers. These toys, games and television shows are meant to have adult supervision and age restrictions. However, there are two sides to every coin, and by allowing children unlimited time with technology is where it can cause issues.
When children are deprived of the ability to learn things correctly, children will eventually develop behavioral or extensive health issues. It is that Adult’s responsibility as the primary caregivers to these children to give a child their best chance at success and to lead a functioning lifestyle. This is where the caregiver also needs to learn and know the ultimate meanings of the negative side effects of technology.
In today’s technology driven world, people’s lives are greatly influenced by technological devices such as laptops, iPads, cell phones, televisions, etc. Technology has become a big part of our culture and it is not going anywhere. It is not only an obsession for adults, but an obsession for young children as well. Programs such as Baby Einstein videos might grab the attention of a child, but children under the age of 2 years will not remember information from such a video (Hoecker, 2016). Using technology in early childhood is not beneficial for overall child development. Parents today are actually setting their children up for failure in the future. This failure is supported by evidence that overall development does not happen while sitting in front of a screen. Also, children develop issues later in life and an increase in screen time is related to an increase in child obesity. However, there is also counterinformation that describes technology as a positive in which it allows for better and faster advancement in children development.
Have you ever wanted to stab someone after playing a video game? Many people believe that violent video games can take a toll on the person playing it. They say it can make the player violent or develop uncontrollable emotions. There are many facts that can prove that just simply isn't true. In fact, video games tend to do just the opposite, they have many beneficial properties. Some of these benefits include helping with dyslexia and improving decision making along with improving vision. Based on the evidence of collected research, I do believe that video game do not cause children to inherit negative behavior, but instead, do the exact opposite.
As you know everyday a person wakes up and goes on their device to check anything important. But for a child they wake up and like to sleep in or proced their day by going on the cellphones. Notice that I did say they go on their cellphones in the morning once they wake up. Well, back then before devices and technology children did have more interaction with the outside. A 2010 Kaiser Foundation study showed that “children between ages 7 - 11 use on a average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment technology.” (Chris Rowan 2013) Now it’s 2017 and technology has become more advanced meaning more children have become attached to the technology world. Children now rely on technology for most of their life. Its limiting their creativity and imagination skills. Also, the importance of optimal sensory and motor development. A mom in Robinson, Texas has a daughter that uses her phone all the time.
