Social media is something that an average person uses daily connecting people throughout the world easily. In recent years there has been many different social media sites that have taken over the minds of teens which have brought the rise of many different problems. There is a special type of message every person should be taught to use on social media – Netiquette; the acceptable way of communicating on the internet. Netiquette is the etiquette of cyberspace, cyberspace has its own type of culture many touchy things are posted all over social media making it fairly easy to offend a person by things posted because of different beliefs. Author of book Netiquette Virginia Shea created this book to give a list of the core rules that should be applied while posting on the net, Chapter 3 of Shea’s book she gives rule number one, “Remember the human” this chapter goes over the fact of remembering that every person is indeed human and has feelings so being ethical about the posted is crucial. Another important rule that Shea discusses is “Egregious
Out of the variety of news sources such as TV, radio, or newspapers, one of the popular sources in today’s world is social media. People are getting addicted to and can’t live without social media such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. They use social media as of where they can post their status but also where they can receive a lot of different news. While social media are spreading any kinds of news such as trend, celebrity or even politics, people easily get the information that is not true called “fake news.” The fake news raises the major problem in social media as the news source. Once people see the news, they tend to believe and share it. Liking can spread out fake news in a second. When people like the news, the activity
With social media being fairly new to our modern world, there are a significant amount of different ways to utilize it through many different applications and websites. Some of these websites are being applied towards social media. People need social media to initiate relationships with new friends or keep in contact with distant friends along with family. Social media is also operated to help promote upcoming events or to help speak your mind so that everyone can see things from your own unique perspective. Debates over social media are very popular, this is because it can be easier to hide behind a screen than to argue in person. Social media is applied for easier accessibility to news of what is happening around you as well as what is happening around the world. Countless people value group messages, Facebook messages, for example, to reach out to people who might be harder to connect with in person. Social media has become more than just something that we play with for fun, for some it has a become a part of their lifestyle and everyday living.
Social media is a very big deal in today's society, teenagers use it to socialize, find information and for entertainment. The first thing we could find on social media is really nice comments on teens photos. The second thing we could find is teens speaking out and being heard. Social media is helpful to teens because it boosts their confidence and lets teens have a voice. Despite this, some people say social media leads to cyberbullying, but only a small percent of teens said it made them feel less.
Nowadays, a lot of people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and so on. Since the Internet has propagated rapidly, social media have progressed a lot. The generalization of the internet makes us to live conveniently and fast. People are almost using smart phones, i-phones or comfortable devices which can access to internet. These equipments make us to do social network easily. It helps contact friends, family, and other people even though they live far away. It could be, however, abused, if you don’t use properly. Especially, it is important that we understand and regulate the use of social media by young children.
Social media is a world-wide network being used by millions. It’s either Facebook, Snapchat, even just text messaging that can be considered social media. Nowadays kids don’t ask for toys or some cool contraption that they saw in a store; hence, they are now asking for any technological device they see at stores. Social media can be very treacherous, for example: false advertising, inappropriate website, giving away personal information because they think the person on the other side of the screen is their friend, or because they’re going to give them something they’ve really wanted. Teenagers have been becoming more vacuous throughout generations. They don’t know what’s good and what’s bad at this point. Many of us rely on the phone and many people say they can’t live without it. Once they lose their phone they go into a state of panic and find themselves dumbfounded not knowing what to do with themselves anymore. When trying to look for a news story, you find yourself reading an article about what a Kardashian was wearing, or “How to get Noticed on Social Media” , or when a celebrity just had a baby. All illogical news, no importance.
There is a transformation happening today that is completely changing the way that we do things. The ways that we are communicating are shifting from face to face interactions to short, interactive messages. Technology seems to be making it easier to stay connected, but it is restricting our interactions with others and leading to isolation.
Imagine a world that hinges on how people view one another through a narrow scope of social media. Reputation is built on how you interact with followers or viewers and the face to face value of conversation is diminished to the point where people no longer default to conversations in person. This is the direction that society is moving in because of the growing presence of social media within our lives. Everyone knows that one person that is glued to their phone on some sort of social platform and lives their lives through the lens of their smartphone camera and the screen on that phone. Social media has a responsibility in the lives of humans and that responsibility should be to promote face to face interaction and the benefits of socializing and meeting people. There are arguments for and against the growth of social media. So, this paper will argue for the opposition first and then have the thesis argument stated and go back and forth responding for both sides. Ultimately, this back and forth argument will give proof as to why social media has a vital role in society that it is not currently fulfilling.
Our society has become heavily reliant on social media, and today’s younger generation cannot avoid using it in their everyday lives. As time has progressed, social media has advanced significantly, becoming easier to access with a touch of a button. These advancements provide both positive and negative consequences to youths’ relationships. Due to the rapid advancement of social media, youths’ real-life relationships with their peers have been affected both positively and negatively.
Can you imagine how things were 20 years ago? How did we communicate and exchange information? Some things then may not be that accessible to us now, but in this day and age, everything is almost made possible by the advanced communication technology that surrounding us. Printers, televisions, radios, telephones; all are now within our reach, especially because global trading is available to all over the world. Furthermore, with the invention of the internet, all sorts of information are accessible to the youth in just a click or a tap. Along with all these, just imagine the vast information being thrown in each and every one of us almost every second, which would lead to a lot of problems.
Ten million years ago, humans lived a simple life, worrying only about getting protection from wild animals and gathering food. With the invention of small tools, made from stone and other tangible resources, humans living in the Stone Age overcame their worries and led the way for not only mental, but technological advancement. Over time, the human race has become more educated and technological; however, in the last 100 years, humans have become concerned about insignificant matters and problems ranging from the type of phone to buy to how many likes an Instagram photo gets. Through the juxtaposition of the quality of life before and after the technological revolution, one can realize that the quality of life before the revolution was less-stressful, while the quality of life after was much more unpleasant and demanding. One aspect of technology which has contributed to the increase in anxiety and distress in humans is social media. Within the last 20 years, cultural critics of social media have argued that it creates a false sense of connection and contributes to decreased productivity among its users. Although social media aids in the greater access and exchange of online information, while connecting people socially, it does not enhance wellbeing because it inhibits people from meeting their basic needs by creating false realities and negatively affecting mental health.
What is todays version of the cigarette? What is something that we think is fine today that ends up being the complete opposite in a few years? People have many theories, some could be right some could be wrong. I have one, it’s social media. Now social media isn’t going to harm you like a cigarette would but there are multiple problems social media can cause someone. You might value your worth based on how many followers or likes you have, you may be deceived when pursuing a relationship, it might affect your job eligibility, and it may play a role in your psychological health. Being that social media and the dawn of the tech age is so new there are many grey areas when it comes to how social media effects a person on a daily basis. I will explore how social media may be different than it seems and why people need to be educated on the possible negative consequences if it is used unwisely.
In this age of social media, we are constantly worried about being popular. We are driven by “likes,” “comments,” and “followers.” Not caring what our peers thought, our middle school selves posted anything and everything. Now, as seniors and having had access to social media for an abundance of years, we are far more cautious about what we post but not in the way you might imagine. Instagram is a resourceful tool but, if used incorrectly, could impair your social status.
As social media has been on the rise for the past 10 years, so has the concern about the effect on people. A college student name Alexandra Tendler wrote an article about how social media make us anti-social and how the world evolves their lives around social media. Though social media has now become one of the world’s biggest resources, it’s now affecting people on how they deal with things going on in the real world. This argument contains visual evidence and insights to support their claims and it also contains a flaw or two. It’s not that Alexandra misworded or miss the point of the arguments, but this is indeed an opinionated topic and it misses the reality of things and how people deal with it.
The use of social media in this modern time poses negative influence on the youth. For this reason, the parent must exercise some level of restrictions by limiting the time children spend on the internet, and also filters the data content available to them. The tremendous growth of social media has caused the youth to share unnecessary information on the internet making them vulnerable to sex predators, kidnappers, child molesters, identity theft, bullies, and so on. In his Blog, Suren Ramasubbu the Co-founder and CEO of Mobicip.com observers that “According to a report by Common Sense Media, 75% of teenagers in America currently have profiles on social networking sites, of which 68% use Facebook as their main social networking tool” (Ramasubbu 2017). Ramasubbu went on to emphasize that while social media clearly plays an important role in social connection and technical skills, it risks cannot be unnoticed in the life of the youths. The difficulties with self-control and defenseless to peer pressure makes teenagers helpless with such problems as social depression, social needs, sleep deficiency, and cyberbullying which are deemed realistic threats.
Our generation is so consumed with the idea of social media and has convinced us of how we are meant to be for us to be “accepted”. We are influenced by such unrealistic standards, we look up to celebrities who create such vulgar music, words and quotes. We stop doing things like camping or go out to other places because social media and technology has ruined that for us, and everything feels easier with social media. Too many of us are in love with materialistic things that we do not even notice the harm it can do to us. Adults instead of helping us how to manage time on our phone all they do is complain about how we are always on the phone and let us not forget they are the ones who buy it for us.
