Social media is everywhere and can be best explained as a worldwide connected culture, or a platform which lets the users share their thoughts or participate in social networking. This invention has brought people closer than ever before. With the help of this blessing we can send messages and see our friend’s online activity even if they are overseas. Social networking cites spread information faster than any other media but the question here is does social media really bring people closer? In this paper, with the help of sociological perspective, am going to try to answer two questions how social media influence our life? And if social media is making us less social or not? Social media has a major influence on the society. An average person’s daily life is surrounded by interactive social networking sites such as facebook, instagarm, twitter,snapchat and etc. These networking sites provide people with the opportunity to get innovative ideas or share their own ideas or to make new friends or to promote their business with the world etc. It also keeps us informed and updated about the world. Since the invent of social media it has significantly helped the economy to grow. Today’s generation is so much influenced by social media that it plays such a huge role in shaping their actions, belief and especially their values. Mass media first grew as an entertainment but slowly it took over as a dominator. According to “The Next Web” there are 3 billion internet users in the world. People want to be liked and get famous through social media. When a person gets like on a pic or something he shared, it triggers a release of dopamine in the brain, dopamine is a chemical which releases in the brain when a person gets happy or achieve a goal. And of course, if you would like something you would want to keep doing that. Ever since the invent of smart phones, it has become easier to access our friends through social media and maintain our friendship with them but is it true? The answer is no. People spend so much time maintaining virtual connections that they don’t have time to maintain real life relationships.
