Virtual Reality/Video Games and Kids The world of virtual reality is loved by people who are fan of video games. However, the main victims to get so deeply absorbed in this kind of world are children (as young as 7 years old). It is easy for young minds to become addicted to something they are possibly not yet ready for; especially screens and consoles. Video games are not good for kids because it isolates them from real life, could encourage violent behaviors and ideas, and chips away at their social skills. Children could spend the whole day sitting in one place and be perfectly happy with a device. The bad thing is that the majority of them become unaware of their surroundings because they are too hypnotized by what is being held in their hands. Most children are very easy to entertain, but entertainment should not be provided by video games. When he or she becomes addicted to video games, they probably might rather stay in one place on their electronics instead of experiencing real life. Childhood is when kids are slowly learning the differences between reality and fantasy. If a child is not mature enough, and if he or she is exposed to video games at that age, then it might be difficult for them to differentiate fantasy from reality. Fantasy is usually fun, so a child might rather believe that what they see in a video game will happen in real life. Kids are like sponges, so when they take in all of what they see into their minds, it’s going to stay there for a while. With that said, not all video games are filled with sunshine and happiness. Typically, the popular video games involve violence. Once again, a child can take in what they see and believe in it. Therefore, kids could mimic what they have observed, and sometimes those actions and thoughts are not what a person would want to see. For instance, the character in the game they play is under their control. They might even see themselves within that certain character, which might not be a good thing. To solve a conflict or ‘achieve’ something, one might have to solve it with violence. Subconsciously, it could teach a child that in order to get what they want outside of a video game, they could possibly win with aggression. Not only might the

Many know these games for their violent nature, stemming from their graphic scenes or gameplay involving shooting or beating up opponents, and these factors have caused these games to stir up quite a bit of controversy. For the last few decades, people have debated the effects of these games on the people who play them. Many believe those who play the games become more aggressive as a result of their violent nature, while others argue that playing the games has no effect on one’s behavior. Society should realize that violent video games have, at most, minimal effect on players’ behavior.
Being a person who plays video games some being violent and others being strategy based, I personally do not think that violent video games make or cause people to act violently. Yeah I will say that some games could be quite graphic but even before games came out, people were violent and acted aggressively towards each other they would fight or bully each other even kill one another they did not even need or have to play games to do such things. People tend to have violent tendencies even without playing a violent video game, just imagine the time you were so angry at somebody that you wanted to harm them be it punching, slapping, or beating them up a game did not influence you to think that way. You thought about hurting that person because you were upset with them or something they did.

Did you know that according to Dr. Bret Conrad, the majority of gamers believe that video game violence has few, if any harmful effects on them personally? Well, many people today play games with simulated violence ranging from games like “Killer” to games like Grand Theft Auto. One example, “Killer”, takes place in multiple New York City high schools at the end of the year. It consists of two teams, each student is assigned a person to shoot and they have to shoot them before they are shot. The students have to use water pistols to shoot their person. Once they are killed, their game is over. While some agree that games with simulated violence are perilous for teens, games with simulated violence are beneficial for teens because they help kids with problem solving skills, keep them busy and helps them help others.

The graphics in games now make the game almost look as if it were real life. That has brought the video game industry a lot more players and part of those new gamers are young children.
