Tattoos have become the newest trend in the 21st century, with 40 percent of millennials having a tattoo. We have seen a major jump of people with tattoos in the past 20 years (npr.org). But even though so many people have tattoos, many of them don’t know the long term effects tattoos can have on your body. I believe there are many reasons why tattoos should be banned in America.
First of all, tattoos can negatively affect your career, especially if your tattoo is visible. There are many workplaces where body art is banned in its dress code. Body art isn’t allowed in many workplaces because some people feel uncomfortable around other people who have tattoos. Tattoos can also determine which career paths you will take. A survey was conducted by careerbuilder.com, to find out if tattoos had an effect on someone’s career. Their studies showed that 31 percent of HR managers said that visible tattoos has a negative impact on whether on not they will hire that person. Tattoos can also have a negative effect on the owner or boss of the company because most of them don’t like tattoos. This is because many middle age and older Americans, which is how old many business owners are, associate tattoos with bikers, convicts, and gang members (psychcentral.com). Even if the owner isn’t middle aged, many of the customers of the business are over the age of 40. In addition, tattoos are very painful and expensive.
