Arguments Against Animal Research

Animals, whether cats in the house or lions on the savannah, reserve the right to life. The disregard for animal life has been equated to racism or sexism; acting on principles of disrespect for life and thoughts of discrimination (Animal Testing and Ethics). The continuation of animal testing and experimentation take an enormous psychological toll on humanity, leading to rationalization and flawed justification. To carry on this path would darken the mark this animal abuse is currently leaving on our humanity, one step towards yet another fault in human nature.

Have you ever had a sick relative? If so, have they used medication to help with said illness? Well that medication had to have come from somewhere. Animal testing has help conduct products such as vaccines for smallpox, hypothermia, and other major diseases. Now take into consideration what might have happened to that relative without the medication. As you can tell, animal testing has a positive impact on society, despite what might be claimed to be unjust. I will be explaining why this is so, and how some of the arguments are irrelevant.

The controversy behind animals as research subjects is mainly one of morals and the ethical treatment of said animals. Many people believe we should use them in this way, so we aren 't actually harming people in the pursuit for better things for humans. Though animal testing was a viable resource for many years, it has proven to be extremely controversial and unethical, therefor the use of animals as research subjects should be outlawed.

The testing of animals in scientific and commercial research has been debated for many years. Some people view animals as companions or part of the family, but others think of them as a way to advance medicine by providing researchers with a means to develop better medical techniques, discovering vaccines, and helping to find a cure for a disease. Regardless of how a person may view animals, they are worthy of better protection by our government and us as a society. Although some animal testing has been successful, there are research alternatives that could eliminate the pain, suffering, and deaths that animals endure in scientific research. Therefore, animals should not be used in scientific research

Countless brands that people continue to use in their everyday lives test their products on animals. So many products that people keep in their homes stem from some sort of animal cruelty. Animals are being tested on products for the benefit of human use. " These include tests for cosmetics, food additives, household cleaners, pesticides, and industrial chemicals" (Baier, 136). Many people are not aware that animals are being tortured for products used in everyday life. Millions of animals are being tortured during animal experiments; when this cruelty is unnecessary. The results researchers receive from animal tests are inaccurate and wasteful. There is no denying that animal testing has led to many medical discoveries which have saved many lives. The first pancreases taken from dogs directly led to the discovery of insulin, which has saved many diabetics’ lives. This discovery is the back-bone to allowing animal testing to continue because it is proof that animal testing can lead to lives being saved. Animal testing is a controversy that has lasted for over 30 years, and it will continue to be the center of many debates until an equivalent form of testing is discovered that no longer puts animals in the line of fire. The life of an animal in testing is almost like you being in prison for a crime you didn't do. Animals in labs never know when their next meal will be, why they're trapped in a cage, when the next time they are going to be tested on, or why any of this is happening to them. Animal testing is when animals are forced to be tested on with products for human use. Some people say it will benefit humans and animals, but that is not the case at all. In 2016, the number of laboratory animals used for research was 820,812. This number indicates a 7% rise in laboratory animals since 2015 (“US Statistics”). That may not sound like a large change, but that could have been your favorite animal trying on your favorite mascara. I am one hundred percent against the use of animals for any type of laboratory testing. I am against animal testing because I know there is a more effective way to find the cures and medication that human beings need without harming animals. Also, the act is just cruel: the animal suffers extreme burns and pains; which is why I argue against the use of animals for laboratory testing.

With the research that has been preformed the people of our society has benefited from both tests and research.

Animal testing is when researchers use animals to test out the effects of drugs and diseases. Sadly, this is something that ordinary people may not be aware of the awful things innocent animals endure behind closed doors in laboratories for scientist or researchers own personal gain. Animal testing has been a controversial issue for decades as many claim that it is cruel and unnecessary while others insist that it is unavoidable in the process on ensuring human health. I support the former viewpoint for a variety of reasons.
