A constant trait we all share is survival, every second of every day. Real life stories from Hyeonseo Lee, Bethany Hamilton, and Aron Ralston show that these people have surpassed a hard time, but their labeled as survivors for a reason. They all possess a trait that relates to Survival, Aron has Knowledge, Hyeonseo has Devotion, and Bethany has Positivity. These three survivors possess a trait related to survival, being Knowledge, Devotion, and Positivity.
Three main traits helped three people see another day, Aron Ralston possessed the trait of Knowledge. Evidence to support this statement is when he thought of ALL the different ways to get his arm out from under the boulder. He even considered how contaminated/decomposed his arm must've been to escape. This summary explains that Aron Ralston is a pretty smart man. He determined the amount of time that his arm was under the boulder, leading to his arm decomposing making it easier to escape. Knowledge and Time is why Aron is still alive, combined with the stress of hunger and dehydration, he is really lucky to still be roaming this Earth.
Hyeonseo Lee underwent an unfortunate event in her life. Devotion helped her survive this experience. Here's why. A piece of evidence to support this claim is when

Each person might share another trait not mentioned, for example, Bethany possesses both positivity AND calmness. The 1st paragraph shows Arons knowledge used to its full extent, the 2nd paragraph shows Hyeonseo Lee's devotion of getting her family out of prison, now living happily, and finally the 3rd and last paragraph shows Bethany's Positivity over the traumatizing and painful experience she went through with that shark. When you think about it, Life Is a big game of survival, some people unfortunately make it to the end credits, but these three-people defeated the final boss, which IS
Persistence, resilience, and grit- three traits that I believe are often the most sought after by professionals all over the world. Developing these three skills can be a difficult process, however when all three are present in a person, that person can become a valuable asset for any company or business. In JD Vance’s memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, we see how he develops these important traits throughout his life. Through his struggles and victories, we the reader learn that no matter the situation you are placed in, you can succeed if you develop 3 important skills- those being persistence, resilience, and grit.
Each person has their own unique combinations of personalities traits or skills. Sometimes those unique combinations of traits or skills can either save you or hurt you during a deadly situation. For Aron Ralston being someone who is determined, athletic, and experienced at hiking probably saved his life when he plunged into Bluejohn canyon and was trapped there for five days.
Everyone encounters obstacles in life that they feel like they can't overcome. People that have 'resilience' can take these challenges head on, stay calm in any situation, and use their problem-solving skills to take advantage of the situation and get themselves out of it. In a section of "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand, a biography of war hero Louie Zamperini, Zamperini is adrift at sea after his bomber crashed in the ocean. He is left with just the remains of the plane and two others, Phil and Mac. Louie Zamperini's key characteristics of resilience and the differences between all three men allow them to overcome adversity, and Louie and Phil make it out alive.
These strong survivors pose as teachers and role models by revealing strengths, weaknesses and survival techniques. Wiesel and Ten Boom survive against the odds, but not without physical and emotional scars.
Anna can persevere through seeing people she was helping survive yesterday, die today. This is the biggest trait that is needed to survive as healthy as you can; doing what Anna does day by day. If Anna couldn’t push through what she does she would be stuck to dwell on the death of somebody she knew, and would be of no help to anybody else.
This trait helps people recover from many things. Resilience help Louie recover faster from many traumatizing things, mentally and physically. Like when Louie was beaten even before he got to the POW camp“A fist connected with Louie’s nose, and he felt a crunch.”(145) But when Louie was attacked by Japanese sailors, who broke his nose, but Louie didn't let that stop him and pushed his bone back into place. Also when the Japan forced Louie to run against a Japanese olympion. “He lengthened his stride, seized the lead and crossed the line.” (158) Louie would ended up beating the other olympiad, even tho he knew and did get beaten by the Japanese guards. Louie hoped tho that he would eventually become a runner again. And finally as punishment, the Bird made Louie hold a board over his head“All he knew was a single thought: He cannot break me. Time ticked on, and still Louie remained, the beam over his head, his eyes on the Bird’s face, enduring long past when he should have collapsed. The Bird stopped laughing.”(213) While holding the board, Louie was determined and showed the Bird that he wasn't going to give up and that the Bird couldn't break him. Louie would resist many things while being a POW and this made him strong enough to stand up to the
One piece of text evidence is “Louie groped for the patching kit, and as Phil and Mac pumped and fought sharks, he began the laborious task of gluing patches on the bullet holes” (p.122). This quote resembles the character trait resilient because Louie and the other two people are acting quickly and recovering from a difficult situation rather than just waiting for the raft to deflate all the way. A second statement from the text is “At last, on the third day without water, down came rain.... They had to find a way to save the water. The water tins, opened to the downpour, caught virtually nothing.....spread fabric into bowls, and let the rain pool, sucking it up and spitting it in the cans” (p. 112). This quote models the character trait resilient because Louie or the group in general are not letting themselves die. They had a rough patch but finally found a way to save some water. The last piece of text is “Minutes passed. Louie stood, eyes on the Bird. The beam felt heavier and heavier. The Bird stared, mocking him” (p. 213). This resembles the character trait resilient because it is saying that Louie is not going to give up and is recovering quickly by not thinking about what’s happening. These are just some of the multiple ways that shows how Louie is
Vance has portrayed the theme of resilience, persistence, and grit many times throughout this story and his life.
There is an abundance of survival characteristics to choose from, some of which we may not even consider, and the individuals from this unit have shown many. I believe that Melinda Murphy and Cole Matthews showed determination to survive life threatening situations. Melinda fought breast cancer like a mercenary, and Cole Matthews strived to live through a severe bear mauling.
A hero from a fairy tale, a military veteran, or a cancer patient. These are the type of people that one may think about when they hear the word survivor, but what does it take to be one? In "Trapped", "The Most Dangerous Game", and "Hyeonseo Lee: My Escape from North Korea", three different survivors display different qualities that help them through their difficult situation. To escape these situations, Rainsford displays intelligence, Lee has determination, and Ralston shows courage.
In My Escape from North Korea by Hyeonseo Lee, she survives because she never gave up to make sure her family was safe. In the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louis never gave up and survived through the torture and abuse from the Japanese. (T) The three traits that all of these people have are to sacrifice, persevere and be resilient. (C) To begin, it takes sacrificing to be a survivor.
He knows that he can sail through it only losing six men, but also knows if he goes slow or something happens, he may end up losing even more. These traits help show us that through hardships, you may able to come out a stronger and better
Violet Duran being a protagonist of the novel “Feed” by M.T Anderson stood out the most. To me she wasn't just some girl, she was different. Titus was drawn to her and from the minute he and his friends started talking to her at the moon, they noticed she wasn't like them. Violet had her feed implanted in her brain when she was seven years old due to her parent’s financial situation. She is also home schooled by her father who is a professor who teaches the dead language.
H: “Survival of the fittest” is a common phrase originating from the theory of natural selection. But what does it take to survive? B: Hyeonseo Lee proved she was a true survivor by escaping from North Korea, but returning to save her family. Aron Ralston displayed traits of a survivor when his arm was pinned to a crevice wall in Blue John Canyon, yet he never stops conceiving new ideas on how to escape. Likewise, Alison DiLaurentis and Cece Drake of the hit show “Pretty Little Liars” had to survive in hiding while they, and everyone they cared about were tormented and threatened by an anonymous being. T: Lee’s courage, Ralston’s cleverness, and Alison and Cece’s endurance show their audiences what it takes to be a survivor.

Until Violets father figured it was necessary for his daughter due to the generation she was going to grow up in and because of the job interview. He stated “Then one day, when
