Arranged marriages are traditional in Africa, South-east Asia, The Middle East and Latin America. Due to migration the practice has been extended today to western world countries. Many families choose their daughters’ husbands according to wealth, so converting the woman into a tradable good. Arranged marriage is a marital union where a third party matches the bride and the groom; arranged marriages were common globally until the 18th century.

The definition of marriage is the legally recognized union of two individuals. For many people that is the only definition. However, to others it means so much more than that. Marriage is not for the weak, it is not for people who are selfish and people who do not want to work at it. Marriage is being there for each other and being selfless for the other person. For those people who feel that it is much more than just a legal representation. They feel that two individuals coming together for life is more than a piece of paper. It is two individuals blending their lives together forever.

As the writer, personally I think that arranged marriages are against my personal culture and ethnic moral standards. Growing up in a society where young individuals like myself are constantly exploring our minds and bodies, arranged marriages are out of the equation. We want to meet and find people that fit our niche and personality, and hopefully find a significant other to spend the rest of our lives with. The topic of arranged marriage is not in our dictionary, such an approach in dictating our dating lives is out of the question. With social media outlets and numerous social reforms such as gay marriage being recently legalized, it has allowed this millennial age to become more liberate and free in the way we feel and want to express our thoughts. Marriage is clearly discernible in the History of Salvation; we can trace the theme of marriage right from the beginning of creation. In Genesis 2-3 we find one among the oldest of the Hebrew interpretations of the man-woman relationship. It is the story of the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden. It is generally agreed that this is a myth. Already in the Old Testament, revelation shows the divine Plan in its pinnacle. The Living Lord organizes and gradually prepares history to raise human beings to himself and make them share his own very divine life in an undivided way, just like the marriage of a man and a woman.

Some people follow arranged marriages through religious beliefs. Each era of their family tree has passed this down to one another in hopes to continue culture. This marriage started in India and later expanded into different countries like Japan, Islam, etc. In the movie "Arranged" it shows the perspective of a different culture. There are two women name Rochel and Nasira. One woman is Jewish the other Muslims and finds out plenty of similarities they share. Both families were strict on rules and worried about other people opinions on their family names. They were two diverse families, but different religion and culture went through the same arranged marriage process. I also learned more about the clothing that is worn by Muslim, and this is important in their culture. Women wear a scarf that is called "hijab." In the U.S culture, it is not recommended to wear anything on your head, but you have the option to follow any religion. I was raised upon the Christian religion, and the differences between Rochel and me from the movie is not getting matched up with someone for marriage or wearing clothing due to belief. However, arranged marriages are based on the firm foundation of commitment and then the couple learns to love each other. Marriage is a union that has been around for as long as humans have walked the earth. The human race depends upon the union of its members, and as such, the subject of marriage has been an issue that receives more intense scrutiny and attention than many would likely believe. In today's day and age, with humanity continuing to move in a modern direction, many argue that marriage is a union that should be entered into freely and should be based exclusively on the love between two people. Family is so important. An arranged marriage is accepted by the bride and groom as they believe their elders are able to make the best decision when it comes to who the marry. An arranged marriage focuses on family union. This establishes trust amongst family members and automatically the new addition to the family has immense approval, something a love marriage may not have. For example, say a woman goes out and marries a man. She shows him to the family and they disapprove of him. They say he is not right for her. This upsets the daughter and the husband, and creates a family divide. This creates a situation where the woman must choose between two things she loves. This could all be avoided by arranged marriage. Arranged marriages presuppose that two people are perfectly matched because they belong to the same culture, share the same religious upbringing, speak the same language, and raised in more or less the same socio-economic class. These identical backgrounds make it easier for the couple to communicate with each other and understand where each is coming from. Decisions in the upbringing of future children and their education leave little room for disparities in their thinking because of this likeness. The preapproval of the spouse solves a plethora of unnecessary issues.
