"The Last Supper," by Leonardo Da Vinci is a fresco painting, meaning that it is directly painted on a wall. The "Last Supper" is fascinating to me in several ways. Maybe because I am Catholic and being familiar with it by hanging in our dining area at home. Most of my friends and acquaintances have a picture of it in their home as well.

The painting shows Jesus and his twelve disciples at the last supper, exactly when Jesus tells them "One of you shall betray me." The painting shows how they are all sitting at a long table and Christ has his arms held out to them. The twelve apostles are all separated into sets of three and they all show shocked facial expressions upon hearing Jesus' statement, except Judas, the one accountable for betraying Jesus. He is leaning back into the shadows, and he is shown holding a bag of money close to his chest. Da Vinci places him in the painting right in the heart of it all, yet he still manages to separate him from the rest of the disciples. The painting tells the exact story of the last

The Last supper represents the first celebration of this sacrifice that is now a key part to every mass. That is why it was so important to show Jesus twice in these paintings.
The “Mona Lisa” is one of the most questioned paintings that Leonardo Da Vinci had painted. The painting is one of the first realistic human portraits of the renaissance time period. She is considered one of the most iconic women of the world. That mysterious delicate smile is what people find the most intriguing about the painting. The mysterious element and the myths are what made the painting such a site that one cannot miss. The reputation that both the “Last Supper” and “Mona Lisa” have is what I feel make people value the paintings more
The Last Supper by Leonardo is very different to Tintoretto’s representation of the same incident. The last supper is one of the most important occurrences which took place in the Christian religion such an important event that many have seen the need for the event visually recorded through art the two most famous of these representations are by far Tintoretto’s and Leonardo’s works. The Last Supper by Leonardo was created during the renaissance period and is a simple symbolic work with little emotion. The Purpose of the paintings of the “Last Supper,” by Ugolino di Nerio and Leonardo da Vinci, were to portray the betrayal of Jesus Christ by of one the twelve apostles, as they are having the last meal. Jesus Christ mentions to his apostles that there is going to be a betrayal amongst them. All twelve apostles had mixed feelings of anger, fear, and surprised. Later on, it turns out that Judas, one of the twelve apostles, had told the authorities about Jesus so he can be arrested then later crucified. The paintings show a dramatic scene after the claim by Jesus Christ. The paintings give us insight to get the reader interested in the painting of “The Last Supper,” how the cultures that produced those paintings change the way we paint today, and how both paintings influenced the Renaissance era.
An early example of fantastic renaissance and one of the world’s most recognizable paintings, as considered to many all over the world, is Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper, which is an iconic and powerful work of art. Finished in 1494, it has stood the test the time and you can go see this painting currently in Milan, Italy at the Santa Maria delle Grazie. In order to paint it, Leonardo used an oil/tempera mix and applied it to a dry wall. “He did this because he wanted to capture the look of an oil painting, but even within his lifetime it began to wear off. Further destruction was caused in the seventeenth century, when a door was cut into the bottom,” according to Italianrenaissance.org. As it stands today, this masterpiece is currently 523 years old which is impressive due to the fact that it has been through so many tragic events, such as countless wars and occupations of different countries. Natural disasters could have also easily destroyed it as well like countless other paintings last throughout time.

The composition is built on the simple geometry of a pyramid, common among Renaissance artworks. The viewer’s attention is drawn immediately to Christ not only because He is located in the center, but the empty spaces surrounding him also serve as an emphasis. In addition, it gives off a sense of loneliness and isolation, knowing He is about to be betrayed. The twelve apostles are separated into four groups of three, with Christ as the central axis. Leonardo Da Vinci maintained the balance and symmetry within the space of the pyramid, dividing the four groups of apostles equally on both sides. The linear placement of the groups of apostles provides a balance and prevents overemphasis and attention on the center.
The Last Supper is famous because it depicts Jesus with his disciples and presumably Mary Magdalene before his arrest. The Mona Lisa is renowned because of her mysterious smile and the techniques used for the painting. The Vitruvian Man which was found in da Vinci's personal notebook is well-known because it displays that science and art can collaborate to form a masterpiece even though they are not the same. I believe the reason da Vinci painted The Last Supper, The Mona Lisa, and The Vitruvian Man was to change the way people saw art. With The Last Supper, the people were able to gain a more religious perspective because of Jesus and his twelve disciples.
The Last Supper is a religious scene in the Catholic bible, which tells the story of the last meal the night before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. An important role in its religion, the Last Supper scene has been recreated by artists many times. These visual interpretations of the event generally show Jesus, surrounded by his disciples. During the meal, Jesus breaks the bread and serves the wine accompanied with the command “Take this all of you and eat it… this is my body… do this in remembrance of me”. Three artists who have produced paintings of the Last Supper include Leonardo DaVinci, Jacopo Tintoretto and Salvador Dali. Each of these artists interpreted the religious event and recreated it in terms
Leonardo's "Last Supper" is a priceless piece of art with much hidden meaning and obvious talents bestowed upon a wall. Under the study of Verrocchio as a painter and a sculptor, he was able to use his skills in creating a very detailed and a very naturalistic piece of work that would be remembered for hundreds of years. I have been greatly impacted by all of the artists, styles, and types of art we have talked about so far in Art History I. We have looked at sculptors, paintings, architecture, and prints with varying styles, from a numerous amount of artists. While I am intrigued by mostly all of what we have studied, The Last Supper paintings catch my eye the most. Many artists have successfully completed paintings of The Last Supper including, Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese, and Leonardo da Vinci; however, da Vinci was the first, original painter of The Last Supper. My favorite Last Supper painting definitely has to be the one by Tintoretto. Tintoretto’s Last Supper painting truly represents various key aspects of art; from the usage of colors and shadows, all the way to the numerous groups of people taking on various different tasks.
