The reasoning behind this essay is to prove to The Art Institute of Pittsburgh-Online Division that I, Adriana Petoskey, have the ambition, passion, and autonomy to take on the responsibilities of what comes with obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design.

How did I choose my career goals you ask? Well I’ve been interested in art as long as I can remember and I’ve always searched for a career that I had a lot of interest in but involved art in some way. Through many years of self discovery, I found graphic design. I learned that it was something that was well demanded in the world, so I could be successful and do what I love. With
I don't know if I wanted to be a photographer, a graphic designer, an art director, or something else. It's really hard for me to pick one occupation that I like and I'm going to deal with it for the rest of my life. I really have a job that relates to art. I also want to draw more over the summer just for fun. In future during my high school years, I want to take ceramics when I'm a junior. For my senior year, I want too take advanced ceramics and
In addition, what I hope to get out of this program is the starting tools to become successful in life, such as help with résumé/cover letter writing and interviewing skills. I also want to obtain essential workplace skills and business etiquette. I want to be prepare for what is ahead career wise and further my professionalism and skills. I also
Life is full of decisions. You have the choice to decide what you want to do for a career. Some may have jobs they wish they could change or made the decision before to have done something differently. The career you choose should be something you love, along with aspects that fit your values the best. Interest, skills, financially that you know you can excel in. A plan for life is important, so it’s best to know or have an idea on what you want to proceed in.
At the start of the IPE experience, I was unsure of why it was significant and thought it was going to be a complete waste of time. However, after the first session I was excited to learn about the other professions and be able to expand the perception and
It was my freshman year of high school when I took Drawing A; I quickly learned that I had a skill that I had previously ignored and began embracing it. Sophomore year, though, was when I truly started using my art. It was during this year that I received a 4 on my AP-Studio Art portfolio, and won four awards at Scholastic Art and Writing in photography. Art gave me a feeling of accomplishment that I didn’t usually get in the rest of my academics, so I always tried my
Thinking about what career that you want to pursue can be mind boggling but for me it was an easy task because all of my life I dreamed of becoming a Medical Assistant in a doctor’s office, in fact I use to go to work with my mother when I was a little and watch her work. It was very fascinating watching her work. After going to work a few times and seeing the work that she was doing, I knew the career path that I want to take. I was so smitten by the work that she was doing that I would pretend that I had my own make belie office at home. I would find myself trying to type, file papers and answer the phone.
With ticket sales for the Van Gogh exhibit in high demand, it’s no wonder the Art Institute of Chicago has a reputation of bringing classic, contemporary, and modern pieces to life. Reflective of the works that are housed within its walls, the Art Institute has had its own fair share of history that is worth discussing. Surviving and rebuilding itself after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the museum has used its revival to continue to educate and build future artists through works around the world. The School of the Art Institute, a part of the museum, houses more than 3000 students. With the future of art being led through this museum through patrons and students, what will be the next great masterpiece?
How old were you when you decided what you wanted to be when grew up and what helped you make that decision? Well for me, it was easy. When I was in the seventh grade my brother was put into the hospital three different times for Pneumonia which is an infection that inflames the air sacs and can cause the lungs to fill with fluid. This can be extremely dangerous especially if it occurs repetitively in a five year old, which was how old my brother was at the time. We spent a total of eighteen days in the hospital as my brother was receiving treatment and recovering. It was then that I decided I wanted to become a registered nurse and work in the medical field.
All throughout my life I have been told that no matter what if I can dream it I can do it. I have had an IEP throughout my middle school and high school career. Something important that I have learned is that even though I have an IEP I should not let that define my educational career or define who I am as a person. Growing up I always knew that I was going to go to college and I think that motivated me a lot in school. I discovered my sophomore year that I was really had a passion for business. I decided to take several business classes. Looking back I am really happy that I choose to take those classes because they will put me ahead of my classmates in college and the classes have taught me the important’s of team work. My educational goals
Choosing a career is a very stressful, meaningful, and sometimes exciting thing. While choosing a career you have to think about many different aspects. There are so many choices and decisions that have to be made. Will you get into the right college? Will you be able to succeed in life? Will you make enough money to later support a family? Most importantly, do you love it? I have gone from a Veterinarian, a police officer, a lawyer, and a federal agent specializing in crimes against children. Even though those were all careers I thought were right for me, they were not. My chosen career and true passion is a Prosecuting Attorney, and eventually Attorney General.
As for independent studies, I really enjoyed the CodeAcademy portion of my SSP because that is again something that I always wanted to try but didn’t because of the restrictions on how many classes I could take during my time here at BB&N. I took six hours worth of classes online during the week and then once a week I would meet with Mr. Randall to discuss what I learned. I’ve always been intrigued about how computers and phones works, items that I would clueless use every single day. During SSP, I learned more about what goes on behind the scenes of a webpage or app. I learned the basics of HTML & CSS, Java, and jQuery. I only learned the basics of each of these languages, but I also used them to design my own webpages, built a small scale
As a student who guides herself and provides her own backbone to her aspirations, I would not have believed an academic program like AVID would have given me a significant support system that would direct me to the path of fundamental success. I discovered AVID through their recruitment event for incoming high school freshmen. I learned that the program aimed to help students achieve their goals of attending a four year university through mentoring and an enhanced education. Being a first generation student, I was interested in joining the program in seek of the benefits I could acquire to a quality education. When I joined the program, I learned that I gained more than what I had expected. AVID provided me with academic skills I needed to
“The artist is the compass which, through the raging of the storm, points steadily to the north,” said by Romain Rolland. If people could give an accurate concept of art , then it was better to say that art gave the artist a firm goal and motivation. At a young age, I did not have a deep understanding of art. In my memory, drawing a few pictures of comic and having art classes in my elementary school in China that was the closest way to learn art. Although I liked painting, I did not choose it as my major in my high school and university without the support of my family. However, fortunately I had a good chance to live and study in New York with my family in the winter of 2014. If I could not learn painting that was a kind of regret in the first two decades of my life, then I might have the opportunity to make up for this regret in after years. I was very grateful to the art to bring my enthusiasm, so I could firmly choose the art design as a new professional in QCC and have more opportunities to learn about art.
When I had the chance to visit The Art Institute, I knew right away that this school is the right place for me to attend. I have been in to video production for two years now and I have grown so much passion for the art of being a visual creator. My career goal is to eventually own an independent production company. The education I will receive at The Art Institute of Philadelphia can help me by learning to produce finishing products that live up to industry standards and meeting new people who also share the same passion and career goals will help be successful in the video production business. The Art Institute can also help me by connecting me to different internships so I can have the platform to showcase my talent and prove that I have
My biggest take away from the workshop was the information on I-Link and the role that the career center plays getting the student prepared for not only our future careers but also the long term goals. I knew about the career center reviewing resumes and the I-Link but I did not know to what extent. Through this workshop., I discovered that the career center not only reviews resumes but also helps with
