As consultants we all have the responsibility to treat every client with the respect, compassion, and nonjudgmental to be able to provide good sessions that will benefits the clients’ positive outcomes. While Roger was at the VA hospital in Phoenix, an RN case manager came to talk with him. She did an assessment on him that included his medical and social background, so she could make sure that Roger has a safe discharge. Her job is to make sure that when Roger discharges from the hospital, he will have resources in place to help him get better, and to avoid getting so ill that he has to go back into the hospital.
Social Workers often encounter clients at risk for suicide. They have a great oppurtunity in helping the client if they are able to identify the signs. Some of their roles are: assesing the client, figuring out how to take action, and encouraging the client to talk to someone about how they are feeling (Crowe, 2018). Some of the tips that Crowe listed in the article are; pay attention to the words of the client, and listen for words that seem unsafe, uncertain, or even unstable. It is important that social workers are able to complete an extensive risk assesment on the client, and then come up with an action plan. This action plan can include; identifying triggers, coping skills, removing lethal means, provide contact information to the client about support groups, or give them the suicide hotline (Our lady, 2017). It is important to remember that a lot of people do get help from mental health professionals, but the signs are often missed (Osteen & Jacobsen, 2014).
I finally started my first year of college at Miami Dade College in January 2014. During my adaptation to the new educational system, my Abnormal Psychology class professor mentioned how important it would be to participate in an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. I consider this to be very useful in today’s society where many individuals suffer from depression.
The goal of the Mental Health Crisis Hotline is “Working together to achieve hope, healing, and a meaningful life in the community.” The objective is to essentially prevent clients and or individuals from completing suicide by applying crisis intervention/prevention techniques. In addition, the hotline provides callers empathy, genuineness, and compassionate forms of verbal communication, ensuring their experience is effective and efficient at meeting their physiological needs. During the observation hours, individuals learned the importance of reflecting the callers' feelings,
Suicide has always been an intriguing and permanent solution to end an individual’s sorrow. This act of intentionally ending one's life seems to be the only option when individuals are willing to sacrifice their own life in hopes of finding tranquility. By overlooking a topic, such as suicide, there will be a lost on opportunities that are capable of preventing such actions. Suicide has always been around and to simply define it, this self destruction is a way to escape the horrible realities of life. The common expectation for the public is that everyone is aware of mental health or stability.

The development of the patient-client relationship is one of the most important factors in treating suicidal behaviors. One of the main goals of establishing this relationship is to help the client to understand their suicidal tendencies, which, in turn can help the client see viable alternatives to coping. (Monk, Samra, 2001). This relationship increases the counselor’s ability to obtain information from the client, which increases treatment options and also helps get the client through a painful period.

The organization was tasked with establishing goals and objectives to prevent suicide across the nation (“Goals and Objectives” 1). Though the initiatives the National Strategy of Suicide Prevention set in place may be effective, suicide rates continue to climb amongst
A mental health counselor’s role is unlike other roles in other counseling specializations. A mental health counselor will include a broader approach, than other counseling specializations, when treating clients (Smith & Robinson, 1995). Mental health counseling can occur in various settings, which include community centers and agencies, hospitals, and in private practices (Erford, 2014). Mental health counselors also focus on developmental, preventive, educational, as well as the traditional aspects of care for clients. Essentially, their role and function will be to assist the client with restoring their wellness and balance. The processes and approaches are holistic, interdisciplinary and multifaceted in nature. The client is viewed as a person who exists within familial, societal, and cultural contexts while also being an “emotional, physical, social, vocational, and spiritual being” (Pistole & Roberts, 2002, p.10).

In the case of Kiara, we learn what a professional therapist should never do and actions to avoid. Her actions towards her client were negligent and forceful. Her failure to follow up with her client who showed suicidal ideation is unethical, unprofessional, and illegal. It is important for therapists to provide informed consent forms at the very beginning of their sessions with their clients and make sure that their clients fully comprehend what they will be signing. We must never ask our clients to sign consent forms weeks after initial intake. This can be very dangerous to the professional and could potentially ruin our client’s lives. In the following essay, we will review Kiara’s case and the steps she could have taken to conduct a professional
