With rookie shortstop Dansby Swanson's walk-off bases loaded single on Monday night, the Atlanta Braves won the game 5-4 over the San Diego Padres. It was Atlanta's fifth win in a row and it pulls the Braves to .500 (6-6) on the young season. For the first time in almost two years, the streaking Braves are even in the win-loss columns. Their four game sweep of the Padres means that Atlanta is undefeated in SunTrust Stadium. Incidentally, the team opened Turner Field at 5-0 in 1997. The winning streak comes despite the absence of injured cleanup hitter Matt Kemp who should return to action on Wednesday of this week, and it has moved Atlanta to one game behind National League East leading Washington. Atlanta hosts the Nationals in a three game series this week as well. The Braves began 2017 with a 1-6 record, but if their winning streak continues, they could be leading the division by the weekend. …show more content…
In particular, Ender Inciarte, Nick Markakis, and Brandon Phillips raised their respective batting averages over .150 points in the last five games. Add the steady bat of Feddie Freeman (.400 batting average and 1.347 OPS) and the return of Kemp (.500 and 1.654) makes the lineup a bit intimidating for other pitchers. Atlanta benefited from solid starting pitching during this streak and stellar relief. From a bullpen which could not get an out during opening week to a pen which surrendered only two runs in week two. It is quite a turnaround and it gives faithful fans reasons for
After that second Philly loss, the Cubs were 84-60 and the Mets had pulled ahead at 85-57. The Mets would not look back. The Cubs' eight-game losing streak finally ended the next day in St. Louis, but the Mets were in the midst of a ten-game winning streak, and the Cubs, wilting from team fatigue, generally deteriorated in all phases of the game. The Mets would go on to win the World Series. The Cubs, despite a respectable 92-70 record, would be remembered for having lost a remarkable 17½ games in the standings to the Mets in the last quarter of the season.

In this series the Rockies have put up decent offensive numbers however they have not won a series since mid-May against the Mets. The sweep of New York is still the Colorado’s only 4 game winning series.
When looking at the National League Central division before the season began, not much was expected of the Chicago Cubs. But despite playing in what has become the league's most successful division to this point in the season, the Cubs have not only held their own, but they have become contenders to qualify for the Major League Baseball playoffs, making baseball betting experts take note that they are here for the present, not the future.
Just an inning later, Dansby Swanson hit his sixth home run of the season, this one a three-run shot to left, to put the Braves up 4-0.
The biggest winner of this year's baseball season might be Houston and Los Angeles. Pulling the series out to seven games has really impacted the economy of both towns. Plus the excitement of the competition has people humming as many are in a good mood. The games have brought people closer together and created a bond in communities where life seems to be less than predictable. Who knew Dodger fever could be a good thing to be infected with? Now we only need to see who wins this crazy
Colby’s K-18 baseball team took the early lead in both games during a double-header in Goodland on Monday, winning the first game 9-1 and second 7-4. The team is currently 12-6, and is coached by Brad Weese.
Despite Beltran being productive, the trio hasn't had the impact the Yankees were quite hoping for. That should be a clear point, considering the Yankees only have 1 cameo playoff appearance to show for it.
Balls were hit, strikes were swung, and outs were cast. One and two and three, and as fast as the inning began, it ended. Those who spectated cheered, and others who watched booed. The home team who was defending now attacked, but just as swift as those before them, they were struck down, only ever hitting their mark once. When the Dodgers reached the plate again, fortune was struck, along with the ball, and away it was sent, beyond the green field of contest, and the enemy team cheered loud and full, for they were ahead in the struggle. The outs continued to add up, and innings continued to be completed. Through a sacrifice of a hit, a run was finally scored for the Giants. Furious exclamation came from the stadium, filling the air with the cheers of the onlookers, but short lived was this joy, for in just the next inning the Dodgers stole back their domination of the field. Before the game was almost finished, only two outs before the Giants were crushed, they swept back with a glorious score which made the onlookers even more feverous than before. With this score, the game was extended further, so a victor could be
In a season full of “pinstriped” ups and downs, Beltran has become the one constant in a less than stellar lineup. After Monday nights heroics, Beltran now stands at third on the club in batting average (.288), first in home runs (14), and first in RBI’s with 36; as well as leading the Bombers in categories such as games played, total bases, hits, doubles, slugging percentage and OPS. Not too shabby for a guy that looked like his best days were behind him,
27-year-old “prospect” Ryan Strausborger will make his MLB debut tonight, hitting second and playing right field.
The Texas Rangers (54-53) beat the AL West leading Houston Astros (60-49) 4-3 tonight in Arlington, Texas. Nick Martinez (7-6 3.91 ERA) got the win for the Rangers and Houston ace Scott Kazmir (6-6 2.08 ERA) took the loss for the Astros. Sam Dyson came in and made things interesting, but ultimately got the saved and preserved a huge series sweep for the Texas Rangers.
Both teams have seen a number of players fall to injury directly affecting their win-loss record, and for the two teams, a number of players that are irreplaceable are still on the DL. Clayton Kershaw is the biggest name that is on the Dodgers’ DL and Mac Williams for the Giants. Both teams have shown signs of greatness during this year; the Giants were the best team heading into the second half of the season and now the Dodgers are one of the best teams heading into the postseason. Hopefully, the Giants can get out of their hiccup and the Dodgers can continue to play as well as they are. Fortunately, there are nine more scheduled game that the Dodgers and Giants will play against each other including tonight. The three upcoming games with the Giants and Dodgers will be played in LA and the next six will be in San Francisco. Players like Corey Seager, Justin Turner, Adrian Gonzalez, and Chase Utley have played great as of late and Brandon Crawford, Angel Pagan, Hunter Pence, and Denard Span have played the best as of late for the Giants. Hopefully, the Giants-Dodgers upcoming games will produce a lot of offense and maybe the Giants can come out of the slump, but the Dodgers will try not to let that happen. These players will incredibly important if each side wants to win. For the upcoming games, the starting pitchers will be: Madison Bumgarner v. Kenta Maeda
The same night, another trade was struck between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Atlanta Braves. The Braves sent the young stud Shelby Miller, who recorded a 3.02 ERA in 2015, to Arizona in exchange for top D-Backs prospect, Dansby Swanson and two other prospects. This move proved that the Dbacks want to go all in for 2016. There are still many players on the market who have yet to be signed, primarily outfielders. Outfielders such as Jason Heyward, Yoenis Cespedes, Alex Gordon and Justin Upton have yet to reach deals with teams. The Giants, after losing out on the major free agents and trade candidates that they wanted are the frontrunners to sign the 2015 World Champion Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals. The meetings conclude on December 10th, but the offseason won’t stop. Many deals will continue to be made all the way up until January before spring training. The current rumor now is that Jason Heyward will choose between the Cubs, Angels and Cardinals. An outfield consisting of Heyward and Mike Trout would be one of the best defensive outfields in all of baseball because they are both spectacular
