A soldier can not exceed in the united states army if he or she is constantly late and at the wrong place. A soldier who truly wants to succeed in the military must go out of his or her way to get squared away on his or her place of duty. In today's army, being on time can be a paramount activity. Consequences for not showing up on time can be disasterous. In a normal job, you get up, go to work, and come home, and that is the limit of the level of involvement. The army is not one of those jobs. In the army, we are constantly training our mind and bodies for a combat environment. In such an environment, the level of involvement must be much higher. It is understood that any mistake, however seemingly small can have extreme consequences. Among those consequences are situations which can lead to soldiers loosing their lives.

It effects not just the clinic itself but also effects every other department that is connected with it and the hospital as a whole. That means if you have been given the last slot someone else is going to have to wait for another one to open up. This could be one day or one month. And because you missed it someone else is still going to have to wait when they could have had that spot and been there. If you are going to miss the appointment or cannot make it due to mission or other circumstances they do allow us to cancel the appointment with in twenty four hours. The Army allows us to make appointments for whatever we need. Be it for a medical appointment, house goods, CIF, Smoking Sensation or whatever we need these recourses are available to us. But when Soldiers start missing appointments these systems start to become inefficient. Soldiers do not realize is that when they miss an appointment it does not just affect them; it affects the entire chain of command from the Squad Leader all the way to the First Sergeant. When a Soldier misses an appointment the squad leader must answer for the Soldier, the Squad leader must answer to the platoon Sgt., the Platoon Sgt. The first question regarding this case study is what features of the appointment scheduling system were crucial in capturing “many grateful patients.” As I read the case, some of the features that strike out to me are as follows: (1) a careful allotment of proper time to each patient according to the individual’s needs; (2) giving each patient a specific time such as 10:30; (3) keeping openings in the time slot for emergency patients, (4) punctuality and strict rules against no-shows, and (5) having adequate amount of examining rooms and assistants. The second question for this case is what procedures were followed to keep the appointment system flexible enough to accommodate the emergency cases, and yet be able to keep up with the other patients’ appointments. The assistants are instructed beforehand to keep openings in the time slot for emergency cases. The number of openings is dependent on what times of the week that is available and possibly different seasons. Most of these emergency cases are taken care of after initial patient visits are completed. However, if there is an interruption due to a short notice emergency case, the doctor would still be able to catch up without having to reschedule. If that emergency case happens to be longer, patients are given the option to reschedule for a new appointment or wait. If the patient chooses to wait, the assistants would try and fit them into one of the emergency cases slots.
