For as long as I can remember, the most fascinating things to me were always vehicles in motion. As the saying goes, “planes, trains, and automobiles” have always sparked my imagination, and from an early age, I have always wanted to work with them. Despite my lengthy medical history and learning disabilities, I have striven for the day when I get to do hands on mechanical work as a career. With the help of this scholarship, I will be one step closer to making that vision a reality, and one step closer to developing a vehicle of my own design inspired by these magnificent machines. Most everybody loves trains, but as early as five years old I was personally fascinated by these locomotives, specifically steam engines. From the billowing smokestack and steam whistle, to the open body wheels and pistons, nothing had left such an imprint on me. There were so many moving parts working together, and the way they all work in tandem seamlessly just stoked my curiosity. Ever since then, I have had a passion for these metal beasts and wanted to work with them as a career. Although I still love trains, my curiosity in machinery has expanded to include a whole host of …show more content…
I have taken a couple courses in being an auto technician and learned how to perform basic maintenance on a series of cars, from changing the engine fluids, to replacing the tires, to balancing the suspension. I also served as a docent at the Charlotte Aviation Museum and have shown off a variety of aircraft, from Phantom jet's to the famous “Miracle on the Hudson” plane, even getting a chance to tour the inside of the craft on one occasion. Currently, I am looking into attending the Charleston College of Lost Arts, which happens to be the only one of its kind in the country. Now having several years of history in fine woodworking with the Jackson Park Ministries Carpentry Club, I feel I will fit into this college rather
Diesel mechanics tune and diagnose engine troubles. Diesel mechanics work full time in a shop, overtime is very common. When it comes to working on diesel, it depends on the area, rural areas tend to have more farm equipment and trucks. In cities, it is more common to work on semis and heavy machines. They work 40 hour weeks minimum, also diesel mechanics do more than work on engines. Things such as brakes, tire rotation, driveline, And even wiring. Most start off between $12-$28 an hour, the median pay is $18.50 an hour which is about $45,690 a year. A similar career is a heavy vehicle and mobile technicians which average about $47,690 a year. In 2010 the job increase for diesel mechanics was 15% and by 2020 there will be 35,000 jobs added
The importance of finding a career that satisfies you is the key to becoming successful. A job that meets your basic needs, like well-paying and good hours, is obviously reasonably beneficial towards you. Although, a job that meets your requirements of a “dream job” will not only make you a better worker, but also a happier individual. People who find their jobs meaningful to themselves tend to enjoy it a lot more than a basic job that fits their basic needs.
What is an Automotive Technician? An automotive technician is someone who works on and fixes vehicles. My career choice is to be an Automotive Technician. Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Dallas is the college of my choice because of their reputation and their teaching techniques. I want to eventually become a master mechanic, but that takes time. It is important to understand the education or the training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered and the duties for particular career when making this decision.
Before I wanted to become an Auto Mechanic Technician, I knew a few things already. For example, they make good money in this field. Also that their physical environment is around a lot of machinery. Next I wanted to find out what the working conditions were like. The salary and education to make sure my degree I’ll receive would help me in this field. By using books, the Internet, and a personal interview, I discovered that being an Auto Mechanic was a career choice for me.
Many of my earliest memories revolve around cars. As a child I can remember wandering around classic car shows, riding around up north in my family’s old work truck, and sitting in the back seat on countless road trips watching the miles of unknown road stretch to the horizon. Every time I place my hands on a steering wheel, even today, I still rekindle a fascination with anything that has four wheels and an engine. This interest encompasses everything from the mechanics of an internal combustion engine to the rich history of the American automobile. For this reason, I was euphoric when my family purchased a 1957 Chevy. Since this new hobby was introduced into my life, I have spent many long nights in the garage working to bring the car back to its original glory. In the past few years, working on this car has enriched my life in countless ways.
The career I have chosen is an Automotive Service Technician. Just to make sure everyone understands; an Automotive Service Technician is the proper term for a mechanic. Automotive service technician are the people that repair your cars and keeping them running properly through-out the life of that car. In this career you will need the right schooling and cannot jump the gun.

An auto mechanics job is to work on automobiles, A.K.A, vehicles/cars. It is a very important job because; if we didn’t have auto mechanics many peoples’ cars wouldn’t work correctly. Automotive mechanics can be a boy or a girl, and they can work on almost any type of vehicle if they have the right qualifications. Some auto mechanics; like my grandfather, can work on many types of automobiles such as four wheelers, cars, SUV’s, trucks, and sometimes big rigs. Fixing big rigs is not the job of an auto mechanic it is often the job of a diesel mechanic but, some auto mechanics can and do work of big rigs. Automotive mechanics of all kinds are very important in our society today.
Many cars are ruined either by rust or misuse and other cause. The job of Auto Repairer is to fix dented frames and remove dents and replacing old parts with new ones. A repairer fixes all type of cars and vehicles such as small cars trucks and even busses and big commercial trucks. Depending on the damage of the vehicles the repairer would use a hammer and other tools to try to fix the dents on the car. If the car is plastic the repairer would have to heat the part and remodeled the part to what is supposed to like. If the interior is damaged such as the carpet and the instrument panels they would have to be removed and replaced. If the car needs a paint job then the parts that don’t need to be painted like the tires and the widows and the bumper. There is many types of Auto body repairer such as frame straightening, refinishing, painting, or
In addition with the invention of the steam engine came the steam locomotive. As the development of steam engines progressed through the 18th century, various attempts were made to apply them to road and railway us. In 1812 Matthew Murray was the first to build a successful steam locomotive, and it hauled 27 carts of around 95 tonnes at 3 mph. Accompanied with this came Richard Trevithick’s 40 psi steam locomotive, The Penydarren Locomotive, “the world's first ever railway journey that ran 9 miles from the ironworks at Penydarren to the Merthyr-Cardiff Canal, South Wales.” This creation lead to many more innovations, which will lead to speedy land travel for goods and products.
Cars are everywhere these days and most people wouldn’t be able to live their daily lives without one. Well, unfortunately nothing lasts forever, so these cars must be worked on and repaired. Do you ever wonder why it takes so long to get your car fixed at a dealership? It takes a lot of skill to properly diagnose and perform repairs on a vehicle, so it can take some time to get it back into your driveway. Therefore, automotive technicians need to be extensively trained to make these kinds of diagnostics and repairs quickly.
Could I be successful and please with my career as an automotive technician? Well, all this depends on my goals of being a great technician ,because I have been working at a dealership from NISSAN, in Odessa. I have worked at NISSAN, about a year. The experience of being a technician, is very different everyday ,because each day is a different problem. But being a technician has job responsibilities, educational requirements, the best thing of a having this as a career is the salary.
The canalization of rivers, the steam engine, and railways were key components of the development of industry [2]. The extensive canal system was created around the mid 1700s to move goods and supplies inland. This system was cheaper and quicker than shipping goods over land [3]. The steam engine, however, was the driving force behind the Industrial Revolution. Prior to the invention of steam power, factories were located along rivers and used water for power. The development of a practical, efficient steam engine and its application to industry and transportation was a great leap in progress for industrialization. The steam engine’s application was limitless, and it was responsible for lifting industries from infancy to adolescence. Steam engines were used to develop machines that operated factory systems, pumps for mines, faster ships, and locomotives. A steam locomotive was able to carry raw materials and products very quickly. The expansion of the uses of the steam engine created the steam locomotive and a greater need for a railroad system. As a result, Railroads multiplied rapidly in England from 1,000 miles in 1836 to more than 7,000 miles by 1852 [4]. Machinery took the place of the work of many humans and made the work easier on others.
The objective of this project was to construct a rubber band-powered car. This process had two aspects: the assembly of the car and the analysis of the car. With trial and error, the car was assembled successfully. Throughout the project, my partner and I used our knowledge of one-dimensional kinematics. Completing the project with another person utilized both our collaboration and communication skills. During the analysis process, we assessed the velocity and acceleration of the car. The rubber band-powered car had to meet a set of specifications. The car needed to possess three wheels, travel at least three meters in a straight line, have constant acceleration, move dependably and easily, and look professional. Over the course of this project, my understanding of one-dimensional kinematics increased by the hands-on creation of a rubber band-powered car.
Since the development of the steam engine people had been interested in creating self-powered vehicles, this manifested during the industrial revolution as the train. However, as time went on people became interested in creating a vehicle that wasn’t confined to tracks. The earliest attempts were moderately successful but served little practical purpose. Automobiles first began to truly spread with the invention of the electric motor which created cheaper, more powerful, and safer automobiles. Still the automobile still had numerous problems and were mainly in the hands of the rich. It was the development of the internal combustion engine and the assembly line that was truly able to create a practical vehicle that could be used by all and
