The road to freedom is a very rough path. Numerous have freedom while some do not. To countless lives, freedoms are worth more than gold, and obtaining freedom is worth risking everything. For Papken Infarbian formally known as Azo, in Muslim, went through many trials to survive and obtain freedom to live with his bloodline.
Azo was born in 1906 in Amasia, Turkey. He grew up during the perils of World War I and was a target of his Armenia bloodline. When he was driven out of his home in 1915, young Azo was forced to see the horrors of life that no one should see. In Azo’s world, the way to freedom would be to become a slave in order to survive and obtain freedom. in order to survive, for Azo that was freedom. In his efforts to achieve freedom, Azo would experience the positives, negatives and the suffering that would come with this journey. Azo’s nine masters saved his life and without them, he would have died much sooner. Azo’s journey forced him to give up his background in his ethnicity and religion in order to survive.
Azo’s view of slavery is that slavery was an essential negative that will lead to an eventual positive. Azo journey started with his first master after sister and mother -the last of his bloodline- were taken. During his time there, the Kurdish master and the master’s son would force him to give up on his religious view and become a Muslim. (22-24) While this did help attract more masters, Azo feared that people would find out the truth about him. Even
Slavery has always been the most shocking phenomena of our world. Slavery, by itself seems very unnatural and provokes mixed feelings from the heart of each person. Some faced “slavery” even in the contemporary times. And some people just simply do not understand the possibility of one human being considering another human being its Slave. Slavery is the practice or system of owning Slaves. Nevertheless, there is still much to say about it and a lot of things to recall. Some of the big central ideas that I have found so far in my research are some of the ways Slaves were tortured, why was this portrayed, and what really led to this. Important insights that I have derived from my research topic include Slaves who helped other Slaves become free
A majority of people that chose to accept freedom believing it would give them better opportunities in life soon realised that life as a free person wasn’t as positive as they initially thought.
Having freedom is what makes the people who they are as humans, and what they are meant to be. Freedom is simple as saying small and easy things, "Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows" (Orwell 84). Before anything else, freedom is the most important thing they can all have, because without it,
Imagine life as an average American, you wake up get ready for the day whether that is work, school, or daily errands. Now as you walk from the front door to your car, you are suddenly snatched with a bag over your head. You are held captive against your own will shipped overseas for months and the moment you arrive, it is expected for you to work till death. This exact story happened to Olaudah Equiano when he was captured in Africa and brought to the North America at the age of 11. Equiano faced much hardship and near life experiences but he was fortunate than many other slaves by his ability to learn english, and encountering masters that were kind to him.
Freedom is something that many people take for granted. Having freedom allows you to make your own decisions. Many people abuse their rights by making bad choices. It is important to appreciate the rights you have because not everyone around the world has freedom.
In this assignment I will be taking a further look into the history of slavery. When thinking of slavery the immediate thought that comes to mind is all the negative aspects of the system. Prior to this research, I was unaware of slave systems that were not based on the long labor hours and the torture of slaves. Granted, there were still forms of slavery that practiced these brutal rituals, where slaves were treated as animals and were malnourished. One prime example of this, is the book titled “Am I Not A Woman And A Sister”, looks at the history of a Bermudan slave named Mary Prince. Another example of slavery that will be incorporated in this paper will come from a source about a woman slave named Semsigul, born in Caucasus an area that
Furthermore, the self-hatred or low self-esteem of African-American people involves the personal inferiority complex in Akbar’s novel. The shrewd slave makers were fully aware that people who still respected themselves as human beings would resist to the death the dehumanizing process of slavery. African-Americans have to overcome the glass ceiling of
The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano was written by Olaudah Equiano in 1789, twenty three years after he was allowed to buy his freedom. This document, as a primary source, autobiography and persuasive piece, is able to reveal that slavery rips children from their families and tears families apart. Equiano tells about his life before slavery, and he also reveals that life as a slave was full of unpredicted turns. This is important piece of trying to understand slavery because it tells us about how straining it is to have to live without knowing what the future holds.

Peters Golden, the quote from an Azande man put many aspects of The Azande thought
Three people are walking down a New York City street. One is a Black man, one is an Asian woman, and the other person is a White man. One can easily picture the three people walking beside one another because the image is not bizarre or strange, rather; the image is completely normal. The vision is normal because these three American citizens have the freedom to walk where they choose, with whom they choose. The word freedom is often overlooked and taken for granted by those who have it. A popular idea of freedom is: “Freedom lets someone do whatever he chooses to do.” Although this thought of freedom is technically correct, the phrase barely scratches the surface of the idea of freedom.
