Nothing is more important than the health of your child. As new studies emerge showing the potential health effects of baby bedding, many parents have shifted their focus toward organic alternatives. Although experts agree that many products are just as good in their non-organic form, crib mattresses are not one of them. Standard mattresses continually give off toxic fumes that infants and toddlers breathe in while they sleep. Their underdeveloped immune systems are especially susceptible, and the 10 to 14 hours of sleep they get puts them at an increased risk for headaches, fatigue and asthma-like symptoms. Standard crib mattresses undergo harsh manufacturing processes that use formaldehyde and arsenic. And, to ensure that the mattress is flame-retardant, the fibers are doused in even more chemicals. Organic mattresses are constructed of all-natural materials instead of synthetic selections. However, not all organic mattresses are created equal. …show more content…
Wool is the leading choice and offers antibacterial properties that fight off bacteria and germs. Its moisture-wicking and breathability also allows young children to sleep comfortably while maintaining an optimal body temperature. If your child is susceptible to allergies and asthma, you can enjoy the added perks of hypoallergenic wool that won’t trigger attacks. Wool is naturally resistant to dust mites, mold and mildew as well. There are three types of organic mattresses on the market: Organic wool, organic cotton and organic rubber. We’ve talked a lot about organic wool mattresses that are made from hygienic wool and ideal for children. Organic cotton mattresses have a similar feel to standard cotton mattresses and include springs and additional layers of cotton. Organic rubber mattresses have no springs and feature a rubber core. Cotton is wonderful for comfort and durability, while latex is resistant to dust mites and
The mattress also has SafeSewn Seams so it is dust mite and bed bug resistant.
What is a childhood memento that most people keep? Among the many toys or gifts, security blankets are one of the most common objects that are stored when people grow out of them. The one thing that was given to me when I was young still holds dear to me: my baby blanket. My blanket has been with me throughout my whole life. Although it seems like an ordinary object, it came from an important figure in my life, and having it with me constantly caused me to almost lose it, but luckily I was able to find it, and I still have it to this day.

Sometimes ordinary cleaning is not enough to keep your mattress spotlessly clean and germ free. In Audenshaw, mattress cleaning plays a huge role in keeping it free
There should be nothing else inside the crib except the infant. This includes no extra blankets, pillow, or any type of toy. The leading cause of death for infants between one month of age and one year of age is SIDS. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 3,700 cases of SIDS deaths in the United States 2015. In those 3,700 cases, a significant number of those deaths occurred in childcare. High-risk SIDS cases occur between the ages for 2-4 months. The actual rate of SIDS in child care is more than doubled the expected rate. Childcare providers meaning family child care, childcare centers, and relative child care. Why is SIDS in child care on the rise? Childcare providers are less likely to know behaviors that increase the risk of SIDS due to poor education on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome risk reduction, supervising too many children and are worn-out. Childcare providers perform an essential service in our society. This is becoming a growing need for all families in this generation. Most families include two working parents, so more and more parents are enrolling infants in some type of childcare. Childcare providers need the most updated information concerning the care of children like SIDS awareness’ and risk reduction to help decrease the risk of SIDS while caring for an infant. Just by educating child care providers SIDS risk can decrease.
“Bedtime Basics for Babies,” a campaign started in 1994, wanted to learn about the effects on SIDS rates after distributing cribs and infant sleeping education to families in Washington, Indiana, and Washington, DC. Bedtime Basics for Babies measured the family’s education about infant sleeping before and after the information was given. After the information and crib was given, the parent’s knowledge in each subject improved and only 16% of parents allowed bed sharing. Since this program has been implemented SIDS rates have dropped by 50%. One limitation of this study could be they only tested it in 3 states instead of all 50.
I am Elisabeth Ocegueda, a freshman at Harrisburg High School with a, hopefully, bright future. When I first met Mr. Hartzler I was a little, lost twelve year old girl in middle school who didn’t quite know were she belonged. Mr Hartzler was one of the first teachers I had come to know that had enough energy to make an English class fun. Mr. Hartzler let me express myself and even though he might not know it, he is one of my favorite teachers because I knew that in contrast to other teachers, he actually cared about me and my future. I was never judged in his classroom and I was slowly but surely able to find myself. Over all, Mr. Hartzler will always be a teacher that I respect and that I will remember for my whole life. Thanks to him, I know who I am and what is right.
Parents should not add blankets, stuffed animals, or pillows to the bed. The AAP recommends in "The Changing Concept of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome: Diagnostic Coding Shifts, Controversies Regarding the Sleeping Environment, and New Variables to Consider in Reducing Risk" that infants “use sleep clothing with no other covering over the infant or infant sleep sacks…”(AAP, 2005) to keep them warm instead of blankets. This keeps infants from smothering their faces into the bedding. The AAP also recommends that infants do not share a bed with other siblings or parents. They should be placed in their own bassinet or crib for safe sleeping. This way the co-sleeper does not suffocate the child accidently. Infant’s mattresses should be firm. The softer the mattress is the more of a risk factor it becomes. These facts concerning bedding should be addressed with parents prior to discharge from hospitals. This factor should be addressed when first meeting the pediatrician. This way when purchasing the mattress it can be properly purchased.
Not only does My First Mattress meet safety standards, it exceeds them. The mattress is designed to fit tightly into a crib without any possibility of gaps or pulling away from the sides. The mattress itself if firm and will not pose a threat to any age infant as they sleep on the memory foam. In addition, the mattress is hypoallergenic, impervious to mites, and made from anti-microbial materials to reduce the risk of spreading illness or inducing allergies.
Organic products meet stringent standards . Organic certification is the public 's assurance that products have been grown and handled according to strict procedures without persistent toxic chemical inputs."
Co-sleeping or crib-sleepers that is the question for new parents. There are people that feel that co-sleeping is “irresponsible” and that parents who share a family bed are “putting their baby’s life at risk.” (Onderko, 2016) The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended against bed-sharing in 2005 stating that it is linked to the increase in sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

• Always cover an infant’s mattress with a fitted sheet in a safety-approved crib to create a firm sleeping surface.
My Mom hung up the phone before she could start crying and I took off my headphone, stared at my laptop screen, thought about how much she missed me and had no idea what to do or what I should do next. That had been the way we finished every phone call for the last three weeks – the three weeks I’d been away from home. Of course I knew that I would go to a class, but what should I do for today, for tomorrow, and for my future? It was somehow so hard to see things clear. Every time we talked, I saw her in my mind with long curvy hair, deep hazelnut brown eyes and thin lips, and promised myself I would be the big girl she could be proud of. She was a mother who did everything for her children, and she did all her best to give me the best education and a chance to follow my dream, so there was no way I’d let her down (and also let me down). I always considered myself as a lucky one, because since I was a very young kid, I had already known who I desired to be, what I could do, what I was supposed to do to achieve my goals. And my Mom was the reason that made me even so
