The book I am currently reading is called “As Dead As It Gets” by Katie Alender. This book is the last book in the trilogy and the “Bad Girls Don’t Die” series. The genre of this book is Horror and Survival. In the first book, “Bad Girls Don’t Die” is about how Alexis’ sister Kasey becomes possessed by an antique doll. Kasey is a twelve-year-old girl who has an anti-social and anti-cheerleader attitude, who is obsessed by her antique doll. She then gets possessed by it, and strange things start to occur. Doors open and close by themselves, the house turns extremely cold when no one turns on the AC, and water boils on an unlit stove. Strange things also start happening to Kasey. Her eyes slowly go from blue to green, she uses old-fashioned language and also forgets periods of times in decades. When Alexis confronts her, Kasey says “She doesn’t notice anything”. At first, Alexis thinks that her sister is going through another phase, but …show more content…
On her first day back, Kasey suddenly be-friends a few girls. She makes new friends and all of them start a club. The girls go from dorks, unsocial, and ugly, to popular and gorgeous immediately. Alexis and her best friend Megan become curious about the girls, so they join the club to investigate. When they join the club, they find something much worse than what they expected. One of the girls in the club, and Alexis’ ex-best friend, Lydia, found an old book at a party store. In the book, there are many spells written in the ancient language. The spirit of the book is called Aralt. Aralt feeds off the life of girls and makes them “perfect”. At first, the relationship between the girls, and Aralt seem harmless. Soon, Aralt gets stronger whenever the girls do what he says. Alexis gets trapped in one of Aralt’s spells, and she's afraid she might not

In the Documentary ,Girl Trouble, the lives of three girls are recorded over the course 3 years. During those three years the lives of the girls were evaluated while they were incarcerated in the San Francisco’s’ Juvenile Justice system. According to youth advocate Lateefah, and other delinquent advocates, the prison system is not adolescent friendly when it comes to girls. Lateefah insists that there is a worldwide misconception about bad girls, being that there is no meaningful way to rehabilitate, which results to the system throwing away children lives forever. In order to shy away from this misconception, Lateefah and other lobbyists for at risk youth gets girls like the three in the documentary, to attend rehabilitative centers such

Walter Dean Myers’ memoir Bad Boy is about how he traveled back to his past. This book that he wrote is, funny, and unforgettable. As a boy, Myers had a quick-temper, was physically strong, and was always ready for a fight. He also read voraciously, as he would check out books from the library and carry them home, hidden in brown paper bags in order to avoid other boys' teasing. He aspired to be a writer.
From bad to worse, or from bad to cursed? I always love a good play on words, which is what made this book catch my eye. From Bad to Cursed, by Katie Alender, is the second book in her three part series that is one of my favorites to read. From Bad to Cursed is the continuation of the first book, Bad Girls Don’t Die. It shares the bizarre life Lexi and her sister, Kasey, have gotten themselves into. Kasey, once again, goes ballistic when she makes an unbelievable decision to basically become sired to a possessed book with a group of girls. They call it, “The Sunshine Club.” This book has to be my number one choice out of the three, and you are about to find out exactly why. The main aspect that will be focused on relates to what we have been learning in class, archetypes; I found three in this book that I particularly want to drill on which are the outcast or rebel, sidekick, and the innocent.
The book The Cellar, is about a young girl named Summer fighting and struggling to survive.
Most children are not very fond of reading books in school. I was one of those children until I read a novel called, “The Other Side of Dark” written by Joan Lowery Nixon in the 4th grade. My school had held a book fair during the week of open house. As a child, all children want the toys and games they had at the book fair, not bothering to even glance at the books. My mother told me to look for a book that was not only easy for me to read but something that I would enjoy. I walked around our petite library, which was where the book fair was being held, and scanned the various novels that were displayed until one caught my eye. I was only 10 years old looking for a book without the knowledge of what types of literature that interested me. As I turned the corner at the end of the library I caught a glimpse of a hardcover novel called “The Other Side of Dark”. On the back of novel I read the synopsis which was about a 13 year-old girl who was shot and put into coma until she was 17 years old waking up to discovering that her family was also murdered by the same person who shot her 4 years ago. I was quickly captivated by this summary on the back of the novel and persuaded to read further. Open house was coming to an end and my family and I headed back to our house in La Mirada, California. One of our homework assignments was to read at least 20 minutes a night to improve our reading skills. We quickly arrived at our home and I
In our world today, there are many different types of cultures. In America especially, there is so much diversity within culture that it's what makes America what it is today. What is culture you may ask? Culture is basically a human’s way of living life through values, beliefs, behavior, and material objects. In the well-known movie, Mean Girls, there are a lot of different types and aspects of culture throughout the movie. The movie Mean Girls is about a girl named Cady Heron who lived in Africa and was homeschooled for most of her life, has to attend a public high school called North Shore. She is clueless at first and after a while she makes friends with a group of popular girls known as the Plastics. She fits in quickly and tries to adapt through high school. There are different types of cultures and subcultures at North Shore such as the Plastics, the Jocks, the Nerds, the Cool African Americans, the Cool Asians, the Foreigners, and the Losers. Everyone at North Shore high wants to be like the Plastics so some of the girls like to copy everything the Plastics do such as the way they speak and dress. In addition to that all the students are desperate to fit in so in order for them to do that they have to value sex, drinking, partying, makeup, and other typical teenage stuff. Mean Girls did in fact have a lot of different types of cultural aspects to it and there are strong examples to prove this.
The book that I have picked is called Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt. This novel is a supernatural/fairy tale-ish book that involves love and death. In this book, Keturah, a 16 year old female, follows a hart into the forest behind her house. She gets lost in this forest for a few days and when she was starving and thirsty a man on a horse comes up to her and tells her that her time is up and that she’ll become Lord Death’s wife. Keturah being the person she is asks if she could stay alive and take care of her grandmother. Death responds that she could say a name and that person will die instead of her. But Keturah doesn’t want anyone to die so she tells him a story about love. In this
The book, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, written by Jesse Andrews, is a young adult novel about a teenage boy who must learn what enjoying and coping with life, friendship, and what being empathetic is all about. This story features the main character, Greg Gaines, who is cynical, nihilistic (as he’s called by his father), disparaging, pessimistic, and enjoys making and watching films. When his old classmate and old fake girlfriend, Rachel Kushner, is diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, his mother convinces him to see her and be a friend to her. This conflicts with the boy’s original school year plans to spend his senior year under the radar. Although, he begins to spend time with Rachel and begins to enjoy making her laugh, and impressing her.
The book focuses mainly on a woman named Celie, who has lived a hard life already when, at the age of 14 she begins
For the book I was reading, it's called My story by Elizabeth Smart and Chris Stewart.
