(Sobchack 282) states, “Films, after all, are primary texts and it is the ability to read them which is crucial”. Through Film we are also able to experience different cultures and lifestyles that would otherwise stay unknown to us. We get to feel what the characters are feeling and experiencing and watch as they handle situations arise within the movie giving the viewer a chance to study them. We are able to understand history through film, viewing movies from past time to gather understanding simpler times and great strides we have made today. “All films, whether fiction or documentary, present themselves to the historian for dual service: they are both historical documents and interpretive histories (Sobchack 294)”. We are able to look …show more content…
The movie did a great job showing the viewers how life started with the land and progressing up to the cities we live in today. The movies also showed the light and dark side of history and how humanity could build one another up but also tear each other down in the process. We were able to view each experience though the film and see how coexisting with one another is possible. The film is also shot giving the viewer the idea the producer wanted to convey to us. Telling a story without words leaves us to partly create our own options of the movie while being fed options at the same time. In the Daughter of Keltoum the history behind the movie was heavy. Seeing how we can take for granted the simple things in the states like water can have a huge effect on people in rule areas of the world who don’t have water. During the movie seeing culture and how personal the event of finding ones birth mother became connects with ones own feelings and experiences. Learning how women are treated in that county compared to the main characters, shows that without visiting or having knowledge of that event one would have to learn from a movie or other source. Both movies showed and explained anthropology and culture in a way everyone could easily understand. Seeing the good and the ugly sides of rituals and values during movies leaves one informed at the end. By allowing the viewer to see cultural habits different from ones own, the movies
I loved that as we moved throughout the plot pieces of the puzzle were put together and we started to understand why we were shown certain things in the beginning. One thing I disliked but at the same time greatly enjoyed about this movie is how real it was. The stereotypes brought about in this film and the emotions that came with those stereotypes are still current today. I enjoyed this because after watching the movie it opens the viewer’s eyes more to the world around them, but I also disliked it because it stings knowing that people still have to go through such things. I absolutely loved this whole movie even though it made me feel guilty because I know at some part in my life I have stereotyped or discriminated against someone in someway.
Both films don’t try to deny or completely erase the image of the drunken Indian, but instead provide a more sophisticated depiction of the reasons behind this obstacle of Native American communities.
Movies have the ability to transport people to different times and places and distract them from ordinary everyday reality. They allow for a range of emotions to be experienced. At their core, movies examine the human condition. There are plenty of deeper truths woven into screenplays and plenty of lessons to be learned, even when an individual is solely seeking entertainment.
“The biggest mistake we have made is to consider that films are primarily a form of entertainment. The film is the greatest medium since the invention of movable type for exchanging ideas and information, and it is no more at its best in light entertainment than literature is at its best in the light novel.” - Orson Welles
Watching this movie it was eye opening to see the difference between these four cultures. Observing how each mother was interacting with their child. These four babies each grew up in different parts of the world. I noticed that two of the babies come from poor parts of the world and the two from the rich. The two babies from Ponijao and Mongolia tend to have more of a rivalry with there siblings. The babies from Japan and America had more shelter and toys to keep them entertained.
Films should be both entertainment and should also tackle challenging ideas. It’s good to have varieties of films, because we watch film depending on what we are in the mood for. Sometimes we watch to learn about history we never knew about and
Just look at the documentaries that are able to provide a visual aide to the subjects that they discuss using film. Due to this learning about history, science and other topics has never been more exciting. Even shows and movies whose main point isn’t to teach has benefits as well. Most if not all storylines have some form of positive moral or take away message that the viewer can then apply to daily life. Media also provides a more simple way to learn a new language. It’s a common practice nowadays to watch movies and television shows produced by native speakers of the language you are attempting to learn. This provides an easier way to make sure you have the correct pronunciation and hearing the words in a storyline context makes it easier for you to learn. Even if you watch the foreign made media with subtitles you’ll still have a very realistic way to learn more about another culture. Television and movies can also inspire. Many of our greatest engineers, scientists, and astronauts of today first discovered their passion by watching programs such as Star Trek and Star Wars and now use it to contribute to
One the one hand media themselves are an object of the past by for example investigating the historical development of a technological object. One the other hand, media can also be used as a tool to experience history. By consuming movies or reading books one can learn about history through the media.
I enjoyed this film because it showed a great perspective on he Holocaust with the characters and the setting of the film. This film is related to today because of segregation between races and color. The inequality it showed in the film is the
I think this film can play in changing or improving social and/or political problems because it makes the audience more aware of what is going on in the world around them. By making this film, the directors were able to put the story out for everyone to view and have a better understanding
Film can have many different interpretations. It can be taken as simple popcorn entertainment that breaks box office records. Or, it can have a powerful moral or message it wants to convey, and have the audience form their own opinions and thoughts. One film that had an impact on me is the film Blackfish. The film gave me opinions on animal cruelty, corporate corruption, and manipulative marketing. All of which are ruining today's society, and had me questioning about what it means to live in a world where these insufferably cruel acts are taken place in a tourist heavy attraction.
Film and literature are two media forms that are so closely related, that we often forget there is a distinction between them. We often just view the movie as an extension of the book because most movies are based on novels or short stories. Because we are accustomed to this sequence of production, first the novel, then the motion picture, we often find ourselves making value judgments about a movie, based upon our feelings on the novel. It is this overlapping of the creative processes that prevents us from seeing movies as distinct and separate art forms from the novels they are based on.
When I saw the movie last Saturday, I was so impressed because it is a 3D version and even though it’s a 3D movie, it looks like a real person or actor in the movie. I noticed the special effects, and it was stunning. I definitely love the moral of the story, the musical scoring, the visual effects and the animation. The historical accuracy was good, the costume and the traditions, they even had the right accents. The movie was kinda funny at times, it had good actions, good twists in the story and pretty good acting. The movie was able to rely the message it was meant to rely to the audience, the importance of bravery and heroism, and to sacrifice yourself.
There are many interesting aspects to this movie. First I found it interesting that the
Films and movies hold much than we can guess, they reveal a lot of vices and rots that are happening in society. Others give a history of a particular society, its beliefs, culture and their standard of living in the society. Films are used to disclose the social responsibilities in a given season and customs, moral values, societal worries and other cultural practices.
