Through Film we are also able to experience different cultures and lifestyles that would otherwise stay unknown to us. We get to feel what the characters are feeling and experiencing and watch as they handle situations arise within the movie giving the viewer a chance to study them. We are able to understand history through film, viewing movies from past time to gather understanding simpler times and great strides we have made today. “All films, whether fiction or documentary, present themselves to the historian for dual service: they are both historical documents and interpretive histories (Sobchack 294)”. The movie did a great job showing the viewers how life started with the land and progressing up to the cities we live in today. The movies also showed the light and dark side of history and how humanity could build one another up but also tear each other down in the process. We were able to view each experience though the film and see how coexisting with one another is possible. The film is also shot giving the viewer the idea the producer wanted to convey to us. Telling a story without words leaves us to partly create our own options of the movie while being fed options at the same time. In the Daughter of Keltoum the history behind the movie was heavy. Seeing how we can take for granted the simple things in the states like water can have a huge effect on people in rule areas of the world who don’t have water. During the movie seeing culture and how personal the event of finding ones birth mother became connects with ones own feelings and experiences. Learning how women are treated in that county compared to the main characters, shows that without visiting or having knowledge of that event one would have to learn from a movie or other source. Both movies showed and explained anthropology and culture in a way everyone could easily understand. Seeing the good and the ugly sides of rituals and values during movies leaves one informed at the end. By allowing the viewer to see cultural habits different from ones own, the movies
