Ballet “Cry” simply showed to us real life of all African women. Every single American people know what kind of life they went through. Therefore it touched their heard. Alvin Ailey’s “Cry” presented wonderfully combined movements, technique and emotion. Ms. Donna Wood uses tragic face, a mask of sorrow. It is a face born to cry, but when she smiles it is with an innocent radiance, joyfulness that simple and lovely. She never tries consciously to please an audience. He was not only concentrating in movements and physical performance, but also using flowing white gown
According to (Mc Coy) family is very important in the African American community. Without a family bond, this community would have struggled to make it through trying times such as the violence and exploitation of racism throughout this country’ history’’
The dancers in the earliest ballets were highly skilled professionals capable of feats of strength and agility.
As a result of reading the forward of “The National Core Arts Standards: A Conceptual Framework for Arts Learning”, I saw that there was some information that I learned from past classes that I already understood. I knew that the standards was first established when Goals 2000s made dance a core subject in all schools. When that happened a council was formed to create standards to make sure that it included the most important concepts and ideas. Art programs are really important for school systems to enforce. The arts help children understand the world and society. The information students learn will help them understand the material they are learning in their other subjects. Having dance classes, will reiterate the information they are working on in other
At a very young age my mother asked me “do you want to do dance or gymnastics?” and I remember my reply was instantly “dance!”. From that moment forward I completely fell in love with ballet, and a couple of years ago I decided I would like to see myself grow up to become a professional ballerina.
The varieties of jazz dance reflect the diversity of American culture. Jazz dance mirrors the social history of the American people, reflecting ethnic influences, historic events, and cultural changes. Jazz dance has been greatly influenced by social dance and popular music. But, like so much that is “from America”, the history of jazz dance begins somewhere else.
For this choreography, I decided to stick to Ballet/Jazz dancing. I was inspired to create my dance based off of a phoenix. In Greek mythology, a phoenix is a long-lived bird that has been regularly regenerated or reborn. There is not a specific way of how a phoenix truly dies; some say a phoenix dies in a shower of flames or simply perishes and decomposes. Once it dies, a phoenix is reborn rising from the ashes of its predecessor. My intention for this assignment was to choreograph something my peers would clearly understand. I hoped to accurately represent the process of its rebirth, as well as include a feature of the phoenix. Although my dance explained the process of death and rebirth, I know if I had more time to plan and create my dance
For this part of the research, I went and saw the musical ‘Wicked’ at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London, where it shows several times a week. This means that the costume I design and make needs to be very durable so that it can be used for every performance.
In a quaint little village tucked away on a beautiful Caribbean island, lays the seaside town of Runaway bay. A town filled with deep rooted culture on an island filled with welcoming natives. The pleasant vibes of reggae music and Rastafarian culture flow from the hills to the sandy shores. This island rich with tropical fruits and spices is located in the heart of the Greater Antilles. History tells that the enslaved island once known to its natives as “Xaymeca”, has come a long way in becoming the independent nation known today as Jamaica. In the Sea of many islands known as the West Indies, Jamaica stands peaceful, welcoming tourist and expanding rapidly. From an early age my passion for the island and its culture
The dance that I will be focusing on is entitled: thinking sensing standing feeling object of attention. The dance, to me, symbolizes the socialization of persons in Western civilization concerning gender roles. In the beginning there are gestures that are separated from emotion and full-embodiment, but as the dance progresses the gestures become more meaningful and recognizable. The lighting starts out very specific and narrow, then the light encompasses the entire stage, and eventually the dancers are silhouetted as they return to a familiar movement motif in the end. The music is mainly instrumental with occasional soft female vocals, and the lyrics suggest emotion, which is interesting because the dancers do not convey emotion until
Dance therapy is a type of psychotherapy that uses movement to further the social, cognitive, emotional, and physical development of the individual. Dance therapists work with people who have many kinds of emotional problems, intellectual deficits, and life-threatening illnesses. They are employed in psychiatric hospitals, day care centers, mental health centers, prisons, special schools, and private practice. They work with people of all ages in both group and individual therapy. Some also engage in research.
A series of set of movements to music, either alone or with a partner. That is the definition of dancing. Dancing is a way to express one's feeling and to get active.
I attended DancePlus show On Friday December 2, 2011 at 7:30pm at night. It was performed in the Victoria K. Mastrobounno Theater in New Brunswick, New Jersey. There were four different parts that I saw that day. All of the dances were very interesting and very different from each other. All of the dances had its own unique key factor that separated it from each other. I enjoyed the entire show very well. Out of all the dances I had strong reaction to “Lapa’s Lament”. I believe this specific dance stood out to me compared to the other dances from the show. This show had many different factors that stood out from other shows in the entire performance.
