During World War 2 there was a very gruesome battle called “The Battle of Normandy”. This battle lasted from June 1994, resulting in the allied liberation of Western Europe from under the control of Nazi Germany. The battle began on June 6, 1944, this battle is commonly known as D-Day. A sum odd of 156,000 American, Canadian, and British forces that landed on a total of 5 beaches spanning along a 50-mile stretch of very heavily fortified coast of France's Normandy region. The invasion was the largest aquatic Military assault in american history, that required a lot of planning and knowledge of the beaches the troops landed on. However to fully understand “The battle of Normandy” you must understand why the war started and how america entered the war. They're are many reasons of how World war 2 started, from the fascism in Italy to the red scare in america, but the main reason for the war starting is Germany invading Poland. The German invasion of Poland was a primer on how Hitler intended to wage war. Now poland had a alliance with Great Britain, so when Germany invaded poland it forced great britain into the war. Great Britain would respond with bombing raids over Germany three days later. America was thrown into the war when japan declared war on the U.S. by bombing our naval base in Hawaii, “Pearl Harbor”. Japan declared war on us because they wanted no interference from our navy when they invaded the Dutch East Indies and Malaya to conquer territories that could provide important natural resources.
