Reflections on BCMB Capstone and the BCMB Program At the beginning of the semester I was overwhelmed by the idea of having to present for such long periods of time in front of my peers. I was confident in my ability to understand the CRISPR/Cas9 topics that I chose to research, but was unsure of my ability to present that information in a way that was made sense to my classmates. Discerning how I was going to put together each of the presentations after having gathered all of the information was one of the most time consuming aspects of this course. I definitely think that this course has improved my public speaking and professional presentation skills. During my first presentation I rarely made eye contact with the audience and would either
IDS 101 Cornerstone Seminar has been a course that has made you think deeper in many areas. I have learned how as well as the importance of analyzing and evaluating books, and topics whether to take a position, use an analogy, discuss cause and correlation, summarize, paraphrase, quote, beginning an research paper, peer editing, developing an abstract, and using MLA or APA format just to name a few. This has been a process where I have used parts of brain that hasn’t been woken up in some time. To start off with week one and not fully knowing where to start I was pleased to reflect on myself relating it to Gladwell’s “10,000-Hour Rule” in Outliers. To see how I made connection to Gladwell’s philosophy about being successful and what it all
It is still so surreal to reflect back on my first semester as an incoming college student in the ENC1101 course, analyzing at my progression as a reader and writer in literacy. Since the first day of class I set in stone my goals for this class: receive a 4.0 GPA, develop my connecting theories skills in writing, and become more aware of objectives for each Unit throughout the course. All of these goals became achievements that not only make others proud but most importantly give me self pride. In order to earn the grades and achieve these goals, I went after every opportunity that I was given as an incoming college student, such as office hours and extra credit. By taking this course I have gained confidence with the utilization of literacy, and made an addition to my group of impactful literacy sponsors. Once students are finished with high school they assume that there is nothing else to learn beyond the stereotypical five paragraph essay, but they are so wrong. I was able to obtain so much knowledge about numerous course concepts from Writing about Writing, articles, and my professor. These concepts will carry on with me throughout a bright future of writing courses, job interviews, and any other skills that require literacy. The four outcomes listed below will help illuminate how I improved as a writer, by being a driven college student and going out of the way to earn my achievements in this course. In the first outcome I improved comprehending scholar texts,
8th grade was great I wasn’t the youngest, I was in the oldest grade. At this point I had middle school perfectly handled. Going to high school and being a freshman is terrifying you're the smallest you don’t know what a seminar B is and when you go to it. I loved middle school. I love high school; the only reason that I love it is because I have middle school to reflect off of. I have those experiences to help me have more. I use middle school to reflect and learn from everything that I did. I’m doing well in high school so far only because I have I have past experiences so that I can make choices that best benefit me now. Arnold Spirit from The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and the Narrator from “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant” are reflective because they both took action while being unique making it much harder than necessary. At the end of it they learned a valuable lesson and made the best decision for themselves.
Reflecting on this course over this semester, there have been many lessons learned that will be valuable, as we enter the business world. Our first lesson was to learn to work together, as a team, to prepare a short memo, long memo, letter, and email for use in the business world. This is a lesson that will experience many times as we do our daily work. Punctuation and grammar are so important to present to the client and other organizations that we are professionals. It could mean the loss of a sale or acquiring new business. It’s like dressing for work; looking professional or unprofessional.
Applying programs created by a BCBA to an autistic child in their home and taking data on their progress. The children I worked with were between 3 and 15 years in age. In addition to my primary responsibilities of data collection, I also worked with the child's family to help them better understand what their child needs and how to get it to them. Creating a strong bond with each autistic child. This is to build the trust that is needed to work with them in a strong consistent manner while still maintaining an empathetic understanding to their desire to be
My name is Ashtin Shyenne Colby. I was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on October 13, 1998. I am the second child of Glenn Colby and Belinda Colby. My older brother Austin is eight years older than me. I have lived with my family in the same house for the entirety of my life. A few other people have lived with us temporarily in the past. The only others living with us now are my pets. I have a German Shepherd Husky mix dog named Brownie and a fluffy, black and white rabbit named Twink.
During my time at UBC, my rigorous course load along with a number of extracurricular activities have allowed me to enhance my organization and time management skills.
When taking this class, I got to learn how to think critically, ask the right questions and formulate my thoughts into coherent paragraphs. The presentations gave me a lot of information; the assignments helped me remember and better process what I learned. And finally, the discussions gave me the opportunity to express my ideas, as well as an insight into what my classmates
I was correct you are the person! I promise it was a coincidence, but earlier today a colleague, Ayeisha Cox, suggested I reach out to you to gain insight on what it is like to be a lawyer in Public Policy and Government Relations. I started at the AAMC roughly 10 months ago, and as a Catholic Law graduate with Health Policy experience I am reaching out to know more about what the OGR does on a day to day basis. Do you have time this week for an informal chat over coffee or lunch to chat about the work you do? I look forward to learn more about you and the different areas of public policy the AAMC impacts.
In this memo, I have chosen three topics to submit for my research project this semester in English 210.
The course helped me develop my interpersonal skills, collaborating with other students, preparing for presentations and addressing the class. I gained more confidence to present myself. Initially, it used to take me 3-4 days to summarize an article. To my surprise,
You have completed the COMP100 course so you do not need the CEIS100. They are both very similar courses so COMP100 will count as your credit for CEIS100. Please send me another class that you are interested in registering for the May session. Please be mindful that you currently registered for courses on Thursday nights.
Within the design challenged for Y100: Exploring Informatics and Computer Science, I was able to begin the semester by practicing a key skill I may use in my future career: consulting and analyzing. This assignment was enjoyable, because it not only allowed to me to experience characteristics about a future job I may have, but it also allowed me to discuss and review different wants and needs of a few individuals and compare them.
Some of my biggest flaws that I will need to improve upon is weak eye contact, having enough citations, elaborating on unfinished points and not being dependent on my notecards. I excelled in my introductory, transition and conclusion statements as well as maintaining a good presence and providing factual information. These speeches have been challenging for me as presenting is not something I look forward to doing and is something I have avoided in the past. This class has forced me to face a fear and grow as a person which I am thankful for as I hope to continue to better my presenting skills and control my anxiety while doing
In the past four months, I am glad to have invested my time in senior studies by volunteering in the NICU at Sky Ridge hospital, attempting to teach myself guitar, shadowing various positions at a local veterinarian's office, as well as doing related research and reading books. This was all done to further expand my success as a student and continue to understand my personal goals for the future. During this project, though the overall outcomes have changed from my initial expectations, I have gained valuable people skills, expanded multitasking capabilities, and a greater understanding of my interests in the type of person I want to become.
