I stand in front of the canvas, the war in my mind raging on as the new Beatles song “Strawberry Fields Forever” plays softly on the radio in my studio. I need to do something bold, something beautifully tragic, something to show them how I truly feel about the war that’s raging outside of the borders of my mind. Even outside to borders of my country: America. It suddenly hits me, “I think, er, no, I mean, yes, but it’s all wrong. That is I think I disagree.” My eyes widen as if I’ve found the cure for all bad things in the world as I run to my kitchen. A bowl of strawberries: Check A mixing bowl: Check A plastic knives: Check I rush back to my canvas, fearing the idea might leave me if I don’t hurry up and do it. Using my hands, I crudely crush a few strawberries into the mixing bowl, letting the juices fall to make a liquidy red resembling blood. …show more content…
I watch as the juice from the single strawberry glides down the paper, like blood spilling from a soldier. I’m so pleased with how it turned out that I make a whole field of dead strawberry bodies, using as many knives as I have until I’ve sporadically covered the canvas. I take one small paintbrush and use the liquid in the crushed bowl to start painting designs of explosions and guns. I step back from my masterpiece in awe, the whole work looks like a strawberry field of horror - Like a
So green apple is green, grapes are purple, cherries are red, oranges are orange, and lemons are yellow. Then I stirred it until it looked good. Then I poured each mixture into their own small pans, make sure they are not glass pans because they will break. Then put the pans into a freezer and wait 4-5 hours or until mixtures are frozen. Then break them into smaller pieces about a nickel's size and put the pieces into the microwave and wait 40 seconds and it should be melted. Now they let the pieces cool and then roll them into balls, and then dipped it into tartaric acid. Let the balls harden.
Across The Universe (Taymor, 2007) is a tribute to the great 1960s band, The Beatles. It showcases, amidst an often wandering narrative, the most important songs of the band’s career. The story follows Jude’s relationship with Lucy, set against the backdrop of the Vietnam war. When Lucy’s brother Max (also Jude’s best friend) is drafted, Max is seen to ascend the stairs of the US Army building as the first bars of the song ‘I Want You’ enter the sound-scape.

Written in 1980, Galway Kinnell's Blackberry Eating is a poem which creates a strong metaphoric relationship between the tangible objects of blackberries, and the intangible objects of words. The speaker of the poem feels a strong attraction to the sensory characteristics (the touch, taste, and look) of blackberries. The attraction he feels at the beginning of the poem exclusively for blackberries is paralleled in the end by his appetite and attraction to words. The rush the speaker gets out of blackberry eating is paralleled to the enjoyment he finds in thinking about certain words; words which call up the same sensory images the blackberries embody.
“I know a place where the strawberries are as big as my thumb.” I gave her a gentle squeeze. “I’ll take you there when they are ripe, if you shut your eyes,
War has been a topic that is upsetting and off-limits for many. Although, it shouldn’t be. War has become a rising issue as veterans come back home. Authors use languages such as imagery, strong diction, and rhetorical strategies to stress the importance of talking about war. Some may also use personal experience to raise awareness of the effects on both sides of the war and to deal with post-traumatic events that happen to veterans.
Add a few drops of food dye to the water until you like the color you see.
When most people see beautiful pottery or a delicate glass bowl, their minds do not go right to the science behind the art. They see the pot or bowl and only see the beauty and creativity that was required to make something so unique. Little do most people know, the artist is using chemistry to manipulate the material into something beautiful. As seen in pottery, from the molecular structure to its glazing, as well as the amorphous properties of glass and glassblowing, chemistry plays a vital role in the beauty of art, and it is important for artists to know the scientific processes behind their work.
I do not know how to start this letter, how abandoned and alone I feel not seeing the sight of your face every day. It is not what I imagined when hearing the stories of those back home. Brainwashed by propaganda, to believe that war is honourable. I must call to mind to value each moment as it comes. The more time spent here is less time being left underfoot from the charging boots. Only at night, the screeching of shells is heard as they fall overhead. We are heading over top tomorrow, oh how my body trembles just the thought of it. My men and I currently sit by candlelight reading the bible in hopes to clear the mind for the task ahead. Showing looks of uncertainty. Our minds are in knots, clouded by the unknown as to whether or not we will make it through. We received new recruit that will be joining us tomorrow. They are oblivious as to what is to come, clueless to the horrific events that they will be faced with. Leaving behind scars. After a restless night in vicious gale force winds and descending rainfall. I am now faced with expanding sludge becoming harder to trudge, boots become unwearable. Each day feels endless like war is a never-ending cycle.
