“In its present form, personal training only dates back a few decades, yet it is among the fastest growing professions in the U.S.” (Holt). In the 80’s and 90’s personal trainers were predominantly heavy lifters who looked like they could soon compete in a bodybuilding contest. The muscular physique automatically qualified each of them as “guru” in the fitness world and helped quickly build a clientele. Towards the late-90's, the situation started to change: gyms became less and less of an intimidating environment for a wide category of people with no desire to become “huge.” Personal trainers of a new generation expanded their specialization to weight loss, cardio vascular

This type of client has a much higher work ethic and desire to improve than the general public which made for a very rewarding training experience. Even though I was very motivated

A personal trainer pushes an athlete to do beyond their expectations and get better. Personal trainers also focus on other things too. Every client that a trainer works with will probably have different goals, expectations, opinions, and medical problems. Getting the client to their goal is not the job, pushing the clients to their best is the only goal. The athlete can’t cheat themselves because a good personal trainer will motivate them to push through it. Most personal trainers change people’s lives and make them better them healthier, better, and stronger. No matter who or what the trainer will always find a way to help you reach beyond your goal for the better. Personal trainers sometimes focus on getting one part of your body stronger
Most of us probably could not afford one session with her. I am referring to the in-your-face drill sergeant who constantly tells you “one more rep” over and over, even though you were at your breaking point six reps ago. If you are sensitive or have thin skin, this is not the trainer for you. The constant berating from this trainer about what and how much you should be doing can be enough to mentally break some clients. In extreme cases, a bad relationship with this trainer can lead to complaints to management about a trainer’s poor personality. Now this trainer is not completely wrong; just wrong for some people. There will be some clients who will thrive and blossom under the intensity from a CT Fletcher swearing at you while practically foaming at the mouth as he tells you one more rep. If you played high school football and miss the memories of Coach yelling at you through a megaphone to do ten laps around the field after you have spent the last 45 minutes hitting the tackling dummy; then this trainer will be perfect for you. If you became emotional when your high school tennis coach criticized your lack of power in your backhand, this trainer will not be a good fit for you. Hopefully, you were forewarned about this trainer before you signed with them up for multiple
Before committing to one specific trainer, set up meetings with a few in your area. Take the time to go and meet

The President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition gives American adults a target physical activity range of at least 150 minutes of moderate to intense aerobic exercise per week. However, many Americans do not reach (much less exceed) the recommended amount of physical activity, leading to an inordinately high level of the negative results of failure to reach such recommendations - such as Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and poor mental health quality - in the United States today. Programs like the Coach Approach (designed by Dr. J. Annesi) have been designed to increase the rate of American adults reaching the recommended physical exercise levels and to reduce the number of participants from
