Becoming A Registered Nurse ( Rn ) Essay

I became a mother at a very young age, seventeen years old. When I was in labor at the hospital, I experienced the nursing care of two very distinct nurses. I quickly became aware of the demeanor of the night nurse. She was unkind, pushy, and insensitive. She also did not explain things and did not smile much. On the other hand, the day nurse was merrier, compassionate, caring, informative, and reassuring. Despite my juvenile state, my comprehension was very astute. I comprehended that there are two types of nurses. One who solely works to attain a paycheck and the nurse who chose the nursing profession because they value humanity. Simultaneously, I was becoming a mother and discovering what my profession would be thanks to the caring day nurse who was a role model.

Nursing is a practice in which nurses promote health and the well-being of patients. I believe that nursing is not only a job that prevents and cures illness, but has a deeper meaning and understanding. Becoming a nurse gives the opportunity to maximize and promote patients’ well-being. It is a way to learn and understand new perspectives and expand prior knowledge, to build relationships with patients, community, and other nurses, in addition to learning how to empathize and realize the patient’s needs, and to value and see people as human beings. I think even with the list given is not enough to define or explain a nurse. I believe being a nurse is a diverse and immeasurable experience, and what happens in this field is unknowing and uncertain. My goal in nursing practices is to take in life experiences and use the skills and ideas learned to shape me to become a better nurse and a better person.

After going through a lot of trial and error in my career, I have decided that I want to pursue being a Registered Nurse. Many things have led me to this career choice, including personal and financial gain. I have tried many other occupations and educational programs and none of them have fulfilled me like I believe nursing will. It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I often joke that I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. I will tell you about my journey and what I hope to gain in my future.

As a course of life, people are born, raised, and go to school until the time comes where they need to make a decision about their career. In fact, most careers have one common theme among them---Help or give back to community and society. I for one have chosen a career in nursing to help people and give back to my community. Other than the fact that I want to help people, a career in nursing will expand my horizons, give me career opportunities, and job satisfaction.

In some point in time, during a person’s life they run into the question what do I want to be? They must find a career that they will enjoy or the time that they have spent in class and studying will be in vain. While doing research on the Georgia Career Information Center and from the constant idea throughout my life I have decided that I want to become a registered nurse. The type of work environment, the salary that the job provides and flexibility with work hours are all things that have drawn me to this occupation. I want to specialize in Neonatal. A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What’s interesting about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need.

I want to pursue my health care career in Nursing. I always dreamed of being a nurse, because I enjoy working and caring for people. Ever since I was a little girl I carried a toy stethoscope around and havin my family be my patients. I was not like any other kid, who played with barbies and kenn. My mom even knew I was going to fall in the great path of the health care. My potential is to have the greatest affect on others who are in need of my help. Also, I chose nursing to be my health career, because I have seen the real path of nursing in the real world. As a native Mainer, I have adopted the mentality that all things worthwhile require hard work. Growing up on the rocky, briny coast taught that lobster shells must be cracked, fiddleheads must be plucked from their bristly nest in the cold spring earth, and blueberries are easier picked when you are young and closer to the ground. Maine is a difficult state, but not without rewards. Becoming a Nurse Practitioner through USM's options program will also prove challenging and intense, with the lifelong reward of a career that has meaning and value to me.

People around the world would not be cared for, educated, and have emotional support during their injuries and their family member's injuries, if it was not for Registered Nurses. Registered Nurses need to genuinely have people skills in order to care for patients and their families. Registered Nurses need to educate people on health care and how to take care of themselves during injuries. The amount of RN's has been growing at a percentage of 19%, which is faster than average ("Registered Nurses: Occupational Outlook Handbook"). This is excellent because there are more Registered Nurses, therefore, there are more patients being cared for. Being a Registered Nurse requires an associates degree, specific qualities such as people skills and sympathy, and knowledge about medical care to be able to do the duties.

Your choices will affect you throughout your life, whether it is a big or small decision. For example, it could be something simple like eating fast food for the third time this week or it could be important like going to an interview for a new job position. When you are young, you change your mind every chance you get. This might be why deciding what job you want for the rest of your life is difficult. Currently, 1. I want to be a RN, which is a registered nurse. Registered nurses do a lot to help their community and the people in it. With this job, I would be able to give back to the community by helping people. This makes me feel like I would be a better person.

My first career interest is to be a Nurse started at a very young age when I wanted to take care of my parents when they were ill. I would always tell my parents I will take good care of them as they get older. Let alone, I enjoyed helping and taking care of people. In my spare time I would volunteer at local nursing home to visit the elderly patients and interact with them. Visiting the patients in a nursing brings lots of joy and happiness to me. With that being said, life has taken me in a different career direction, however, I am finally able to pursuing my dream and goal of becoming nurse. As I continue to pursue my journey there are several areas of the health care occupation that will enlighten my knowledge about my career of choice, such as, the job description, education and certification, employment and professional activities.

Being young and tied up with high school and college is just one big hurricane waiting to happen. Sometimes I wake up and ask myself why am I doing the things I have done or are going to do but I bite my lip and keep moving forward. Growing up fast is very hard and can put a lot of stress on your back, but I got to keep in mind what my future will be like if I continue going the path I am now. I'm doing this for myself and also to prove a point to my family that no matter what happens or what life throws at you I can manage my way through it. My life is not as easy as I make it out to look from working with my dad, going to Union County Early College and wanting to become a nurse, my life is all over the place.

Nurses make up the largest majority of the industry, and with that, nursing is the fastest growing occupation. Nursing is a job that allows people to not only take care of the sick but also to experience, learn, and further their interests of the human body.
