Behavior Intervention Plan
Johnny is a six-year-old child with autism. This is a disorder which is characterized by impaired verbal and non-verbal communication and impaired social interaction. It is associated with receptive and restricted behavior. Johnny’s communication skills are significantly deficient and he demonstrates a wide variety of problem behaviors. Most concerning is the tendency for him to demonstrate self-injurious behavior that has recently increased in frequency and intensity. An ER visit was necessitated by a recent incident of this behavior. Some of Johnny's more intense characteristics related to autism spectrum disorders include repetitive

Positive reinforcement also referred to as reinforcement will occur when a response or behavior is followed by a stimulus that will encourage or increase the frequency of a behavior. Negative reinforcement also known as escape, it occurs when a behavior or a response is followed by the removal a stimulus and thus increases the frequency of occurrence of that behavior. Automatic reinforcement is an occurrence that is evident when a person’s behavior creates an outcome which is favorable without the influence of another …show more content…

5. C – consequence
Functional behavioral assessment (FBA) refers to the processes or procedures that are developed to ascertain the reasons and the purpose of the behaviors that are portrayed by individuals with communication impairments and other severe cognitive disabilities (Cipani, E., & Schock, K. M. 2011). This includes autism which is in Johnny’s case above. Individuals cannot fully explain why they display those behaviors and thus this procedures of assessing the functional behaviors was developed. This is done by collecting date on the environmental variable the influence the behavior of an individual
In the functional behavioral assessment (FBA) is used to address the components of the five components of the SMIRC. These is covered and explained well in the assumptions that taken in the assessment of the functional behaviors of individuals and the organism. These assumptions are:
1. The challenging behaviors that affect individual have a reason for their occurrence and do not occur in a vacuum.
2. A behavior occurs in reaction or response to a stimulus which is identifiable.
3. The behaviors of individuals are strengthened or weaken by the consequences of the responses that follow
In order to have a personal theory regarding human behavior one must understand the different behaviors through the principals of psychology. Similar to a fingerprint, people are unique and their behaviors/personalities are all different. A person’s personality can have emotional impact in reference to the way they act, speak, react to different situations and the lives of people that they are involved with. Relationships can also be influenced by the way a person behaves and the personality they portray.
Positive reinforcement is rewarding a behavior with a consequence that is pleasant to the recipient in order to encourage the behavior. An example of this in The Breakfast Club
Positive reinforcement involves strengthening or fostering desired behavior through the addition or increase of a pleasant incentive. Positive reinforcement tends to be a more effective means of behavior modification that the two types of punishment. The addition or increase of incentive when using positive reinforcement is geared towards encouraging the occurrence of the behavior in the future. For instance, positive reinforcement is used by an
Functional Behavioural Assessment, Functional assessment is a process for determining the function of the child/adult’s problem behaviour. Functional Assessment or Functional Behavioural Assessment (FBA) involves the collection of data, observations, and information to develop a
In this part of the assignment the author will explain the contribution of contrasting psychological theories to the understanding of two specific behaviours
He also recognizes that character traits within a person can influence behavior, but does not believe traits alone can explain behavior and learning. Instead, Bandura expanded upon these theories and developed the concept of reciprocal determinism, which posits that the person, their environment, and behavior all influence one another. Bandura argued that personal factors affect behavior, which alters the environment, and that environment is not only a cause of behavior, but also an effect of behavior, and these all operate “as interlocking determinants of each other” (Bandura, 1978, p. 346). Therefore, if we are going to attempt to understand human behavior, all of these factors and their mutual influences must be recognized. (Cloninger, 2007, p.353).
Functional behavioral assessment In the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), it is crucial to collect as much data as needed before creating an appropriate intervention for problem behaviors. In order to do this, a functional behavioral assessment (FBA) can be done. According to Cooper, Heron, and Heward (2007), an FBA is a systematic method of assessment for gathering information pertaining to the function that a problem behavior serves for an individual.
I have first-hand experience working with Behavior Analysts and have a full understanding of what the profession entails. As an RBT, I have assisted Behavior Analysts in conducting direct and indirect assessments, as well as with functional analysis during Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA). While assisting with FBAs, I have learned that it requires a considerable amount of time to be conducted properly. My experience assisting Behavior Analysts in conducting FBAs has taught me how to be patient during the process and the importance of accurately collecting reliable data. It is imperative to be meticulous during data collection to ensure the validity of the

Mueller, Sterling-Turner, & Scattone (2001) conducted a functional analysis of hand flapping in a kindergarten classroom. In this study the researchers manipulated the antecedents and consequences maintaining the hand flapping. After conducting the analysis the researchers identified the maintaining variables and were able to develop a functionally based intervention. Similarly, Meyer (1999) successfully used FA to assess and identify the reinforcing variable of off-task behavior in grade school children. FAs have also been used to identifying the variables maintaining tantrums in pre-school children (Wilder, Chen, Atwell, Pritchard, & Weinstein, 2006).
It is proposed that one's behaviour is an involuntary act that is directly linked to the

To do so, the researchers conducted functional behavior assessments (FBAs) on the participant who was three years old. Based on the results, the researchers anticipated that the participant would gain appropriate self-control and be less reliant on teacher prompts. The results showed a dramatic decrease in problem behaviors and increase in compliance during transitions. The schedule boards helped the child to keep track of the day’s events and to develop an understanding of time frames and environmental
After making the above discussion, we found that the observed rewards and fears affect the behavior of a person in different ways. Since we live in society, it is crucial to know the ways to manage these challenges and opportunities during the interaction with the other people.
There are two forms of reinforcement: positive and negative reinforcement. When an event occurs producing a positive effect, it is considered positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement involves the removal of a stimulus increasing the likelihood of a positive effect. An example of this would be to take two aspirins to remove the pain from a headache.
