Plagiarism is an increasing large issue on college campuses, a habit to most of the student. According to the article ‘’The Plagiarism Plague’’, the findings on the survey made to 50,000 students on more than 60 campuses was that 70 percent of the students admitted that they cheated. Half of the students surveyed admitted that one or more times made serious cheating on writing assignments, with 77 percent of the students surveyed said that cheating was not a serious issue.

Almost every student has been there: staring at his/her computer trying to get an assignment done when they have twenty other obligations swinging over his/her head. Students are trying to find the fastest and easiest way to get the assignment completed. Many students will plagiarize intentionally or unintentionally at some point of their educational career. Some people refuse to take plagiarism seriously, having a strong educational background as foundation as well as respect for other individuals work. Plagiarism is a serious offense and often considered a form of theft. Consequences for plagiarism can vary depending upon the campus, but can lead up to expulsion. Plagiarism commonly known as taking pieces of ideas or words and phrases from someone without giving credit.

It is important that they not only give credit to their sources but that they maintain a high caliber of integrity. The first thing to realize is that cheating is never the answer. Never accept a friends request to let you copy answers that only leads to problems for both people involved. Academic dishonesty is never the right choice. Plagiarism counts as academic dishonesty so don’t do it.

Many college students result to piracy rather than to add in the work because they are lazy or desperate to succeed and rarely pay attention to the causes of cheating. It’s easy to think that if you are using others work no matter what you are cheating, but when you look at the facts you will start to organize that life has been changed and people have circumstances. Think about taking away young people’s circumstances like part-time jobs, organizations, and sport teams don’t you think that the level of writing will increase. People’s opinion of what originally is have been changed. If two people have the same idea doesn’t mean that one of them copied from the other. The thing that we should understand is that the more pressure that there is the more chance of cheating that it would be. However in my opinion, plagiarism would be one of our major problems in the future.

Plagiarism is very dangerous and can happen anytime without the person knowing. There are people who plagiarize, but do they all do it purposely? No, they don’t. People tend to plagiarism unconsciously most of the time. Russ Juskalian argues how there should be no excuse to plagiarize in his article, “Is Unconscious Plagiarism a Real Phenomenon?” Juskalian’s arguments and evidence about how Cryptomnesia is still not an excuse to plagiarize in one’s subconscious, but can be avoided and he’s very convincing because he uses credibility by using expert psychologists, logical appeal of experiments and statistics and appeals emotionally by using how people can stay alert and not be lazy.

The concept of plagiarism is remarkably personal and this has been a subject of debate. Most critics argue that not only does technologies like the internet and smart phones distract students but it makes students perform poorly in school, but they also argue that it increases their chances to plagiarized. For example, in a research conducted in a university about the assessment and evaluation in Higher Education, 75% of students strongly agreed that using someone’s work without citing their work is wrong. If many of students believe this, why do somer student plagiarized. As a student myself, I knew students that plagiarized. Though they knew their actions were bad, they wanted to get a good grade.Most believed that it was not a big deal

Plagiarism is common in schools, working places, and anywhere in general. Since it is such a common thing, people do it without even blinking an eye. Though you may think it will benefit you, plagiarism is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. It can effect the person you are stealing from, their grades, work, or possibly get them fired. It is also considered stealing, and cheating. This would be breaking the Ten Commandments, as a Christian, and would be seen as a sin. In the end, plagiarism prevents you from learning and growing as a person and you will not benefit from it in a positively.
