Belief Systems: Similarities Between Judaism And Christianity

Christianity and Islam are the most influential religions in the world. Judaism has only fourteen million followers across the continents which makes Judaism the 12th largest religion. Although Judaism is not as large as Christianity and Islam, It still has an impact on the world. Prophet Abraham is the called in Islam "the father of all prophets" and because of that, sometimes Christianity, Islam and Judaism are called Abrahamic Religions. There are many known differences and similarities between Christianity, Islam and Judaism. They all share the same believe in Divine Revelation; they all believe that god is contacting prophets through revelation. Also, both of Muslims and Jews claim to be strict monotheists while Christians claim to be Trinitarian monotheists. Besides believing in only one true god and life after death, hell and paradise, they all appeared in the same geological time and recognize almost same prophets. In contrast, Muslims and Jews do not have the believe of trinity as Christians do. In addition, the god of Christians and Muslims focused on the whole universe while the god of Jews on Israeli nation.

Judaism and Christianity are key religions in the history of our world, and are still around today. Both of these religions are monotheistic, believing in only YHWH, the God of Abraham. However, if we look deeper, there are many more similarities and differences in these two religions. Some things that are comparable are their political figures, their holy works, and social beliefs.

Judaism and Christianity each have their own beliefs and traditions, with Judaism being a religion that shaped Christianity as it is today. Both religions were shaped by the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament, which is considered by many to be the biblical law of God (Molloy, 2009). Christians however, consider that in the New Testament with the arrival of God in human form, that our sins were forgiven. In its earliest stages, Christianity was considered a sect of Judaism. Jesus and his apostles even considered themselves Jewish in the early years of Christianity. While followers of Judaism do believe in one God, they do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah or that God is the Holy Trinity.

There are many difference and many similarities within these religions mainly because Christianity grew out of Judaism. Many people including Jesus and the twelve disciples were Jews (religionfacts.) The main differences are how each religion views Jesus and God, heaven and hell, and the notion of sin.

Judaism origins arises from the times of Abraham when god made a covenant with him and promised to make his lineage a sacred people and give them the holy land. After Abraham, the ‘children’ of Israel were born. Christianity was developed out of Judaism in the 1st Century. They believed Jesus was the fulfillment of the Jewish text ‘Torah’ which is the text that both Christians and Jews alike use. The difference is that Christians also have the New Testament that is full of Jesus teachings, miracles, and revelations of how the world will end. Christianity is based on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, those who follow him are known as, Christians.

Islam and Judaism are known as the two biggest religions in the world. There are about 1.6 million Muslims and approximately 21.7 million Jews. Each religion has a plethora of similarities and differences that help to shape each religion into what it is today. Both religions share the common belief in one God, although the Muslims called their God, Allah. However, these two religions differ because of their belief systems. Jews believe in a divine revelation as opposed to Muslims who believe in a prophet as the basis for their worship. Both of these religions are complicated in their own ways, but each religion is important to understand and learn about. Judaism and Islam have many similarities as well as differences and shows the complexity and value of each religion as people view it today.

Out of all the religions in the world Christianity and Judaism in my opinion have the most similar rites and rituals. They also share many beliefs and flow many of the same rules. Even though some of the rituals might seem like they are completely different, when you look deeply and find the true meaning, you will see that most of the time they share the same message. But even with all of these similarities its the differences that make them unique and these differences are what splits them apart. The three main similarities in both Christianity and Judaism is the first step into adult hood, the last step into adult hood and the Shabbat and the Sabbath.

Although Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all religions that grew from the same central idea of one divine god named Abraham in the general time zone of 2500 BC, and in the holy city of Jerusalem, they are all very different from each other. Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all similar religions in some ways but are also very different from each other in other ways.

Both religions believe in one god, or are referenced as monotheistic. The only other religion like these two is the Islamic religion of the Muslims who worship their one god “Allah.” Judaism or the Jewish peoples god is named “YHWH” is known as the Tetragrammaton. The Christian’s god name is “Jesus.” On a daily basis Jewish are supposed to pray 3 times a day morning, afternoon, and evening. Christians pray whenever they want to.

Jews believe that God continues to work in the world today and has an effect on everything that we do. The Jewish relationship with God is a covenant relationship. Christians believe that God created all that is seen and unseen. He is the creator of all people, the world, and the universe. Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God and was sent here for our salvation. Christians believe that people are “saved” and forgiven of their sins if they confess their sins and confess their belief in the resurrection of Jesus. Two of the world’s major religions, Christianity and Judaism, share many similar traits such as monotheistic beliefs, common birthplace, and virtues.
