The business we decided to create is a Physical Therapy clinic called Back on Track. Back on Track is a facility where patients will learn how to prevent or manage their condition in order for them to achieve their long-term health benefits. Our Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Techs at Back on Track will spend time with each patient and examine them so that they could develop a plan on how to use treatment techniques to stimulate the ability to move, reduce pain, regain function, and help prevention of the disability. There is no specific age requirement for patients to come into Back on Track. We take young children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. Our goal is to help patients move around so that they could be more independent around
Congratulations on making it to week eight of PTA 324 Physical Therapy Across Practice Settings! We end this course with a look at professional development of the PTA. We will be discussing ideas for lifelong learning and maintaining clinical competence. By being in this course, you have already shown a commitment to professional development and lifelong learning. As we come to the end of this class, reflect on the self-directed learning that you have achieved and how your professional development has been affected by your research and the interactions with your classmates.
On 9/28/17 I spoke with C. Weaver physical therapy. The physical therapist advised that they do not offer occupational therapy just physical therapy. They also are not equipped to do more than one body part at a time. In reviewing the records and the FCE I had supplied them they determined she is not in the best location. They recommend Hope Network. I have contacted Hope Network and confirmed that this would be a more appropriate location for the 5 days a week therapy she needs and what the FCE had suggested. I have contacted Dr. VanderJagt’s office and requested an order for the therapy.
1. This observation was between the Physical Therapist (PT), Katie a 15-month-old girl, and her mother. Katie does not have a specific diagnosis but she has significant motor delays for her age. According to the PT and Katie’s mother she has just started walking by holding on to things. This observation took place in the gym, the benches were set up like a bridge and toys were put on top for her to play with. The PT sat behind Katie on one side of the bridge and Katie’s mom on the other side. Katie pulled herself up to reach the toys. The PT would move toys along the bridge to motivate her to move sideways. During this time the PT and Katie’s mother were taking about the progress she has made since she first started. Katie’s mother stated that at home Katie will stand by herself for a few seconds but then realizes it and she falls down. Katie’s mom also stated that she believed Katie does not have the confidence in herself to stand and walk on her own. The mother also reported that she always encourages her to stand and walk when they are at home. The rest of the session consisted of Katie practicing walking side-to-side and transitioning from the floor up to the bridge.
Temple University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program has many aspects that I admire which makes it my top choice of schools to attend to pursue my DPT education. The first reason being this program has an extensive focus on helping the poor, with my degree I wanted to go back to Punjab, India to help elders in my village. The care for elders in small villages is minimal due lack of funding. With this program, I would be one step closer to my dream. The second reason is that way the curriculum is set up; the program allows internship in the second year, which is earlier than most other programs. I would definitely take advantage of the research opportunities that exist for students because I am a hands on individual that learns and understands
a. Education – Completing the Transitional Doctorate Program in Physical Therapy is a personal goal to enhance my education. Attending continuing education courses not only to fulfill state- mandated license renewal requirement but most importantly to further my skills and knowledge in my profession.
In this text, I concern myself with physical therapy as a career alternative. In so doing, I will amongst other things identify a number of services within the said career alternative. Further, in addition to discussing the roles of the workforce within the identified services, I will also highlight the impact of the said roles on health care organizations.
Predominantly, a physical therapist must be compassionate and caring. My family members and I are accustomed to taking care of one another, regardless of the age or circumstance. Along with these age differences come different opinions; because of this, at a very young age, I quickly understood the meaning of empathy. I have become accustomed to practicing compassion at home, that it has now become second nature to me.
Matuska et al. (2003) determined QoL is improved with a wellness program in adults aged 65 and older. Rimmer et al. (2011) determined children with disabilities, acquired or congenital chronic conditions have an increased rate of secondary disabilities. Secondary disabilities are prevented and managed with rehabilitation, health promotion, assistive technology, and policy (Rimmer et al., 2011). Physical and occupational therapists are rehabilitation professionals with education in health promotion, assistive technology, and communication with policy makers (Accreditation Council for Occupation Therapy Education, 2016;
The day-to-day writing in the field of Physical Therapy varies depending on the audience. The audience determines the purpose of the writing and writing style. Physical Therapists (PT) use evidence-based exercises and activities to rehabilitate their patients in order for them to reach their unique goal. Since PT’s work with both medical professionals and patients, they must adjust their writing to be able to communicate effectively. PT’s are just one of the many people in the medical field that may work with a particular patient so it is important that the communication between the different layers of the medical field are precise and clear. Writing to a patient is also important because they are the person who is being directly affected
Keeping a patient motivated, active, and engaged in the process is always important “it’s our foundation of Occupational Therapy Practice”. I would be extremely pleased to see my patients happy, smiling and slowly improving over time. I want to be there for them and help them as much as I know I can. I want to be a person who changes a life. My goal is to see my patients being able to regain abilities once again, for them not to give up and for them to show me that in the end it was worth it and I made someone regain
Ever since I was young my life goals were to help others when I grew up, however I wasn’t exactly sure how. Throughout the past couple years, with a wonderful support system; I have been able to make the decision about wanting to achieve the goal of becoming a physical therapist. It is my belief that I have a high spiritual calling to be a physical therapist, because I have the intention to be able to guide others. I gather that this can be spiritual, because helping others is what God’s intentions are, and would recommend others to follow in His footsteps. My mindset is indeed compassionate, empathetic, selfless, and strong with a thirst for knowledge. Being a physical therapist has many rewards such as happiness, equality, and a sense of accomplishment which can be very valuable and will affect my life in a positive manner.
As a future physical therapist, my main goal will be to improve my patients’ overall quality of life. Being a kinesiology major, I love to study the body’s movements. One category of movement, in particular, that interests me is exercise. I have taken classes in exercise physiology and physical education. I believe I can apply this knowledge in my future physical therapy programs. This would be done by, not just treating the patients in the clinic every week, but also creating an exercise program they can incorporate into their daily lives - something they can use even after recovery. Through my experience I have also found that some patients don’t understand, or are not in tune with, their bodies to know what actions are problematic verses
Life can change in a split second when an unanticipated injury or disease hinders someone’s normal daily life. Modern medicine, physicians and families can only do so much but physical therapy can help recoup the life many of us take for granted. It often isn’t until we lose something that we as humans realize what we had such as the value of our body’s ability to take us through each day. A physical therapist is the person who stays with a patient for the duration of the rehabilitation process. A physical therapist leads the patient through the process of regaining physical strength and helps the patient regain control of their future. Much like many careers that involve interaction with individuals, physical therapy reaches beyond

A prevention program can be described as an arrangement of activities that attempt to alter a situation from happening, reduce problems, or promote a certain outcome. Prevention programs are available throughout the world covering many different aspects present in today’s issues. Physical therapy services have a direct connection to prevention programs in that a therapist makes an effort to treat a condition in order for it to be avoided, reduced, or changed if at all possible whether it is an injury or infection. As stated by the Alabama Physical Therapy Association (APTA), “Physical therapists can provide valuable contributions to the transformation of the health care delivery system by improving health care quality and outcomes through the prevention, treatment, and management of impairments and health care needs of patients,” (Health Care 2). Preventative actions initiate restoration and achievement of a patient’s functional ability, and decreases dependency and impairments due to an illness or disease. Preventing an illness from progressing at a rapid rate, and educating the patient to better adapt to surroundings are also services provided. Physical therapy prevention services can be categorized by being primary, secondary, or tertiary.
